Re: [Dx4win] Updates
Hi Paul, I explain some more, All the programs are starting from WSJT-X (author K1JT) open source and Make different screens etc. BUT they all use the same HAMLIB rigfiles. For instance Yaesu FT-817ND - FT857 - FT897 are not working with these hamlib rigfiles After I complained so many times they finally will look into it deeper. Check WSJT-X webpage also problems Release: WSJT-X 2.1.2 November 26, 2019 - WSJT-X 2.1.2 is a bug fix only release which fixes a major regression in the Hamlib package bundled with WSJT-X v2.1.1. This was for ICOM radio problems Release: WSJT-X 2.1.1 November 25, 2019 - WSJT-X 2.1.1 is a bug fix only release addressing regressions in the prior v2.1.0 release. All new radio's are not direct compatible with these third party hamlib files so can't work either This is my point Paul, when you have a rig that works with these hamlib files it's ok. But when it doesn't work and have to wait until they fix it or make a driver for it You have a problem, If Radio is not connected it can broadcast wrong data to DX4WIN. At this point it's your own mistake and you can correct b4 upload. But If it gets automatically uploaded on LoTW etc some could or will write this garbage is sended out by DX4WIN users .. Re: [Dx4win] Updates
Paul (F6EXV) and others HNY 2020, Concerning your wish list I have some serious doubts if this be a full idiot prove upgrade. With the option "Enable logged contact ADIF broadcast" Paul, I should write the program"DX4WIN" can listen to the UDP broadcasts when using the latest versions of WSJT-X - MHSV - JTDX and log that contact. - But what about WSJT or other programs without this option that users may use ? - These programs depend on Hamlib radiofiles and I know 100% sure there are Rigs that are not supported or give errors all the time. - In this case you have to disable your rig and use the program like it is except for fox-hunt it will work ok, but when you change bands and forget to change to the correct band your log will be incorrect. That's why I have been always against auto upload to LoTW-eQSL-Clublog "IF" Auto upload to LoTW- eQSL - Clublog would be a fact "THEN" it will create so much garbage and keeping those servers busy all the time like It is already with eQSL. Daily I get wrong eQSL's in my inbox, most of the time its wrong band or mode My point is that grabbing broadcasts from the UDP server and log it would be a nice feature but Never auto upload like some other programs do and create massive garbage. Manually creating LoTW etc uploads doesn't consume that much time and in case something is wrong With your log you normally will see it b4 you upload. Re: [Dx4win] Updates
I think that some of the postings with the subject Updates should really be posted with the subject Additional features I wish were present. DX4Win started as a logging program as I recall. Operating was up to the person who had the amateur license; logging the QSO'S that resulted from the operating was the job of the program. Over time the intellectual property owner has chosen to add features and present new Versions for sale. Some of the added features happen to relate to operating things rather than logging of QSO's. As purchasers and users all we can properly expect is that the features declared to be in the Version we purchased work as they are defined to work for the equipment environment for which they are declared to be functional. That implies that new radios , new rotators or new COM to USB devices are not explicitly supported. If the IP owner chooses to modify the Version to expand the supported equipment environment, great. The same thing is true for logging/operating features. If the IP owner chooses to add them, fine. It seems a bit unreasonable to use the product user reflector to 'bad mouth' the IP owner. Of course there is nothing wrong with making suggestions that the product planner can consider when ( and if ) a new product or new version is being planned. Commenting on what you wish was present or even identifying an alternate product that has a feature you 'wish' was present seems reasonable. Building a list of features that users wish were present seems reasonable too; particularly if maintenance of such a listing is not expected to be the job of the IP owner. It would be even nicer if someone had that list on a web site so it could be referenced by people. That might reduce duplicate postings about certain not present yet features. All, Great...I think a wish list web page might be a good idea If the wish list is not acted upon by the developer, will it do any good?as some have posted, the author of this software has decided not to respond to emails and this groupand therefore the wish list web page may just route to the developer's trash bin...and for our own edification. Re: [Dx4win] Updates
Well said, Lou. I am another early adopter of DX4WIN, from back in the early days of Windows (3.1?) I started with DXLOG (for DOS) and after a number of empty promises of a Win version from its developer (who lived 5 miles from me at the time), I switched to DX4WIN. There are things DX4WIN could do better and more efficiently. The only reason I'm still with it is I don't actively chase awards or (paper) QSLs any more. If I did, I would have jumped ship a number of years ago. And if it weren't for AD1C's generous support, I don't believe there would be many users left today. Re: [Dx4win] Updates - LPB2
Lou, thanks for the tip about the LPB2 program. I didn't know it was out there. I installed LPB2 and it does exactly what I need it to do. I have it running right now with my Yaesu FT-950, DX4Win, HDSDR and N3FJP contest program. They all know what the radio is doing now. Thanks again for the 'tip of the day'. 73 Ernie W8EH On 1/5/2014 10:59 AM, Lou Dietrich wrote: Ernie and Group, I run HDSDR and DX4WIN all the time...simply use LPB2, a free software offered by Larry N8LPYou can have HDSDR, DX4WIN, N1MM and anything else you want to linked to your rigit works great... The rest of your post can be added to our joint 'wish list'Hi Hi...along with updated rig files or movement to OmniRig...along with an update Submission Sheet showing LOTW, Hard QSL or EQSL (EQSL yuck!, sorry, editorial comment!) Even the Report Generator is missing simple drop down indicators under Report/ Action, Modes and Bands, showing different selections. This was reported and not acted upon by Paul many versions ago...multiple rotor controls...two (or more) telnet sessions...WWV numbers on the Map Screen or on top of the QSO windows...simple integration of digital programs, MMTTY/2Tone, better PSK31 integration... DX4WIN is a remarkably simple, stable but outdated piece of software. Paul did a great job with it many years ago but alas, now it just flounders in limbo with little support or enhancement from him. If it wasn't for Jim AD1C's tremendous support, I would have moved off this archaic platform a long time ago. There is little or no reason why AD1C's enhancements were not embraced, supported and incorporated by Paul. We, dear fellow DX4WIN users, are 'caught' in an trap...move off to another and abandon what we have learned ...or stick with DX4WIN and hope someone will get this platform back on the track. Flaming each other does little or nothing to enhance or move this topic forward. 73/ Regards Lou N2TU On 1/5/2014 10:24 AM, Ernie wrote: Important to me: 1.
