Re: [QRP-L] Google
Speaking of the Black Widow Paddle, take a look at the treatment Dennis, N5DRB gave to his paddle. [Elecraft] K2/100 #4001
Since building the 100 watt add on, I have been venturing into a bit of SSB. The mic jack is wired for Kenwood and the mic I'm using is a hand mic that came with the TS 570, a dynamic with 600 ohm impedance. I don't think the ALC (Talc) action is working properly. With the mic gain set at 3 and the compression ratio at 4-1 the ALC lights up 3 bars. These settings are extreme and the on the air audio is Breathy with lots of background noise. Not good. But, even at these extreme settings, power-output seems low and restrained. I've tried every possible combination of mic gain/compression. On the low end, mic at 1 and compression off, there is no indication of ALC on the bar and the power indication is very low. Only with the power set to 0.01 does the ALC respond at a sensitivity that seems appropriate with the mic set at 1 and compression off. I'd like to hear from others what their experience is with various mics and mic settings, troubles and remedies, etc. Thanks, Bill - W7WEL ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Re: [Elecraft] Question on KAT2
Hi Augie, I put the KAT2 together a few months ago and remember this point in the build. I had the same question and I'm sure other builders have stumbled at this point also. When the next manual change for the KAT2 comes around it would be a big help to include at this point, (Do not install R6, it will be installed later.) or something similar. Re: [Elecraft] FB FD TNX 2 K2
Bob and Group: Me too! Nr 4001 had a great casual FD in the wilds of North Idaho.Put up a 40 meter loop. It performed pretty darn good but must have been tied directly to 6-Land. :) (I guess that the K2 knew where its roots were!) My grandson, Justin, (age 14) has helped me with field day for the last three years and usually spends time beside me logging and keeping track of the Dupe Sheet. This year he wanted to try his hand at the mic. We turned to 20 meters, tapped the tune button, and instantly were on the air. He worked a whole bunch of stations, including three stations in Hawaii and two in Alaska. (At ten watts, of course.) Together, (5 watt CW and 10 watt SSB) we made just over 100 contacts with the K2 and 40 meter full wave loop. Three cheers for the group and Elecraft!
