Did you install my packages or build from source btw?

Just curious, what results do you get when you run the RTAI testsuite?
`/usr/realtime*/bin/run` with root privileges? After a few minutes, what's the
max latency?

Of course I did. I think tht's why latency-histogram reports quite a
low jitter with exactly the very same settings.

Why latency-test reports that, I don't know

999570 ns max servo jitter should never happen with PREEMPT_RT or RTAI.

Have you looked over this and your BIOS settings?

:) Yes.

Not so urgent. Another thing is the representation of the spindle that
sometimes is S and at other times is N.

Anyway - sorry for the noise.

Spindles Steffen, are assumed to be #0 if not specified, but if more
than one on a

given machine, s/b addressed as sn, where a base 0 n=0 to 9 enumeration
is assumed. Not necessarily in enum order.

That is AIUI.

Corrections welcomed as I have no multiple spindle machines.

So the added ability to control additional spindles has not required me
to make any

changes in years old configs.

Your original quote from the existing docs however, might benefit from a
better explanation.

The words concise and ambiguity come to mind. The ambiguity needs removed.

Cheers, Gene Heskett.

I built 4.19.257 kernel and RTAI modules. That machine still has
linuxcnc-uspace-2.8.2. At launch, it spits "Using POSIX non-realtime".
That said, I can't see any overruns on linuxcnc, but jitter is very
bad with latency-test and latency-histogram
After upgrading to 2.8.3, linuxcnc spits "Using POSIX realtime" and
throws an overrun inmediately. After installing
linuxcnc-uspace-rtai-2.8.3, I got "Using LXRT realtime", no overruns
with axis sim carving the linuxcnc example. Latency-test reports some
16056 ns max base jitter and 999570 ns max servo jitter in perhaps
two-three minutes. Latency-histogram reports max base jitter 13.6 us,
max servo jitter 10,5 us. That would be more or less the same this
machine gives while using rt-preempt.

BTW, I wonder why uninstallin linuxcnc-uspace gives a dependency
hell... but linuxcnc-uspace-rtai is to be installed along with
linuxcnc-space I guess?
