Re: [e-users] DR17: Icon Themes and SVGs

i guess evas didn't build with svg support.

 Hi people,

I'm noticing that the ubuntu icon themes are not working in Enlightenment.

I played around with it a whole lot, to try figure out what was
breaking them. I ended up experimenting on the Tango icon theme
distributed in ubuntu (from which their Human theme inherits).

In the Enlightenment menus, when the
scalable/categories/gnome-applications.svg is not present, an icon is
shown. It's shown from the non-scalable pixmaps I believe, as the
 image matches them.

However as soon as the gnome-applications.svg is present, the icon
just disappears from the Enlightenment menus wherever this icon is
 requested.

This same behavior occurs for the other .svg's which would be used for the
 menu.

Is this a known problem already? I'm attaching 2 of the svg's which
 cause this anomaly.

 * *

Also, the icon theme parser is not correctly parsing themes which
include the line: Example=x-directory-normal in them. When this line
is present, the icon theme in the selector list does not give an icon,
but when you remove the line, then an icon appears beside the icon
 theme's name in the selector.

I'd like to maybe help with fixing these.. the second problem seems
more feasible, if someone could point me in the right direction..

(And FYI, I am running e17 from cvs updated and built today.)

Hi,

I have been using DR17 for over a year now, and I use it successfully on
my thinkpad t43 laptop in a corporate environment.

Works 99%, even with a dual monitor setup. Love the fact that the
second
monitor I connect to my laptop acts as an independant desktop.

The only two issues I have is that since the last cvs build the screen
lock no longer accepts my biometric finger scan, so I have to manually
type my password to unlock, and also that any shelves created can't seem
to exist on the second desktop/monitor.

you may want to set up a /etc/pam.d/enlightenment profile that works with

Hi, thanks for the tip, but unfortunately I had tried this, and it still

Research for error #194d had revealed that it is a permissions error to
the user that is trying to access the biometric profile. I suspect that
the lock screen part of DR17 is running as another user.

I did try to chmod 777 the biometric profile, to test, but it had no
  effect.

the pam auth is running as your user id - well the e17 part is as e forks off
 a
child that does the pam auth and returns the result to e. below that in pam
land, how ti does it is out of our hands - it's up to libpam and wh it
 does/execs etc.

Hi, Yeah, I had given up on this a while back, after many late nights of
adjusting this, adjusting that, re-installing the bioapi system etc etc.

Bioapi stuff works everywhere else, so I figure all permissions etc on
it is ok. I am now waiting for the open source bioapi stack to be
completed (they are close), then at least I can trace the code, add some
debug messages and track the issue down.

Many thanks for the help.

Knowing that a rebuild from CVS could break when I try to do an update
(which is a problem when trying to meet a deadline), I always keep a
spare 4 gig partition to which I first mirror my base install, and then
do the CVS build on that. I can then happily dual boot between my stable
build and the new one, and once I reckon the new one is stable, I move
it
to my main partition. Doing this had always allowed me to keep up to
date
without the worries of breaking my system.

Personally I think DR17 is stable enough for daily use.

I think eterm is very outdated, i am using gnome-terminal, Eterm doesnt

fast, very very fast :)

Mirek

[EMAIL PROTECTED] napsal(a):
 Hi.

New to this list, but not new to Enlightenment :)

In the last week I had updated Enlightenment DR17 to the latest CVS.

Firstly, things are just getting better and better...

So I Finally decided to dump Konsole and remove all kde-base built packages
from my system (using gentoo), and move onto eterm 0.9.3 (using screen, and
the eterm escreen theme). LOVE IT, but ran into one major problem that is
 already causing me grief.

In Konsole I could highlight text using mouse, right click =, and cut 'n
paste this to anywhere else. I seem to have lost this ability in eterm. A
 right click just does nothing.

Anyone know how I can cut text from inside eterm to the XClipboard ?

The second issue i am having (and this is purely since the latest CVS
update, is the 'integration' of enlightenments screen saver with password
lock into the thinkpad t43 bioapi.

When I try to swipe my finger on the fingerprint reader, nothing happens,
and I then have to remember my password, and log on manually. (the first
time was hell, as I had not actually used my manual password logon in over a
 year !)

The bioAPI system is working fine, and I even re-install the complete
system, just to be sure, but the issue remained.

I scanned the log files and get:

Nov 29 19:39:21 DeepThought pam_bioapi[22095]: Unable to load BioAPI BSP
with UUID of {5550454b-2054-464d-2f45-535320425350}, BioAPI error #194d.

Searching the bioAPI resources, I find that error 194d is about permissions
on the bioapi usb devices in /proc. I know they are correct, as I had double
checked, and also bioAPI works on everything else (su interminal, sudo etc
 etc).

Does Enlightenment screen-lock use its own code, or is it something
X-Related, as XScreensaver needs a patch to make it work with the bioAPI

I had also seen a lot of users mention that if XScreensaver is set to run
setuid root, then they get the same issue, so I am thinking that the
enlightenment screensaver/lock is actually running as another user, and not
my logged in user ? Anyone know if this is so ?

 Any pointers would be appreciated.

(I am now looking at the code for screen lock, and the code patch for
XScreensaver, so see if I cannot see some simalarity, and maybe create a
 patch for Enlightenment screen lock.)

 Regards
 Lucas

Please ignore the stupid people. Thanks.

cut 'n paste this to anywhere else. I seem to have lost this

Right click being bound to cut or copy violates the standard and is a
bug in Konsole. The correct use for right click, which you'll see in
Eterm, xterm, and most any other terminal, is extend selection. If
you have made a selection, for instance back in the scrollback buffer,
right clicking will extend the selection from the original starting
point to wherever you right click.

Eterm automatically copies the selected text to the X PRIMARY
selection, so no manual copy action is required. Most applications
will properly paste this selected text using the middle mouse button.

Re: [e-users] DR17, eterm (cust and paste) and bioapi usage

2006-12-02 Thread mik firestone
The first problem can be fixed two ways. Eterm is fairly old school. You
make your selection, then use a middle click to paste. The second way would
be to change the key mapping in your user.cfg file. I think using something
like this in your action context:
  bind button3 copy(clipboard)
will make Eterm's cut-n-paste behave as you expect.

 Hi.

New to this list, but not new to Enlightenment :)

In the last week I had updated Enlightenment DR17 to the latest CVS.

Firstly, things are just getting better and better...

So I Finally decided to dump Konsole and remove all kde-base built
 packages
from my system (using gentoo), and move onto eterm 0.9.3 (using screen,
 and
the eterm escreen theme).

(the first
time was hell, as I had not actually used my manual password logon in over
 a

Searching the bioAPI resources, I find that error 194d is about
 permissions
on the bioapi usb devices in /proc. I know they are correct, as I had
 double
checked, and also bioAPI works on everything else (su interminal, sudo etc
 etc).

Does Enlightenment screen-lock use its own code, or is it something
X-Related, as XScreensaver needs a patch to make it work with the bioAPI

I had also seen a lot of users mention that if XScreensaver is set to run
setuid root, then they get the same issue, so I am thinking that the
enlightenment screensaver/lock is actually running as another user, and
 not
my logged in user ? Anyone know if this is so ?

 Any pointers would be appreciated.

(I am now looking at the code for screen lock, and the code patch for
XScreensaver, so see if I cannot see some simalarity, and maybe create a
 patch for Enlightenment screen lock.)

 Lucas

Right click being bound to cut or copy violates the standard and is a
bug in Konsole. The correct use for right click, which you'll see in
Eterm, xterm, and most any other terminal, is extend selection. If
you have made a selection, for instance back in the scrollback buffer,
right clicking will extend the selection from the original starting
point to wherever you right click.

Eterm automatically copies the selected text to the X PRIMARY
selection, so no manual copy action is required. Most applications
will properly paste this selected text using the middle mouse button.

Hi,

Tried gnome-terminal, even before I started using Konsole, did not like it
at all, and it has the same problem as Konsole, my main reason for finally
dumping it - too many dependancies.

As an example :

Any source for updated, ready-to-roll rpm packages on dr17 ?

dr16 is really great on the laptop - obscure it is, but clean classy without

I'm using DR17 on Ubuntu Edgy for sometime time now and couldn't be happier

don't recall that I have modified it much though I probably have.

I haven't used kde or gnome wm's in so long now I'm not sure I'd remember how
to get around in them anymore.

Personally I suggest you use CVS because the repos are usually so out of date
it's not funny.

I'm writing from Linux Format magazine. I'm just checking it is OK
for us to use a beautiful screenshot of DR17 by Vandango in the
magazine (from http://enlightenment.sourceforge.net/Enlightenment/
Screenshots/DR17_User_Screenshots/_previews/

We would credit Vandango of course.

It would be great to hear from you.

Thanks

I hope Vandango has replied - I would say it would be OK, with
credit/attribution as it is just a screenshot, not a original creative work
as such - but i know there are things you have to do legally. if you need
 other
screenshots i am sure others can provide them :)

Re: [e-users] DR17 make problem : with logs

2006-05-13 Thread Mirek

Here is my script to install latest CVS E17 for Debian. Just try it :)

Mirek

danny napsal(a):

Hi list,

Apologies for starting a new thread but the wireless card on my Debian
box is not working very well, so I am forced to use Outlook.

With regards to my previous post, here is the original:

 Start Original
I have the following setup:
Debian Sarge.

Downloaded the following snapshots:
ecore-0.9.9.023
edje-0.5.0.23
eet-0.9.10.023
embryo-0.9.1.023
enlightenment-0.16.999.023
evas-0.9.9.023

I did all the configure/make/make install in the order suggested at
freedesktop.enlightenment.org.

Everything went well untill I got to enlightenment-0.16.999.023. The
configure part went smoothly. But when I do make, I get a whole bunch
of syntax errors.

Now I would like to send the output from make to this list, but it
scrolls by too fast

How can I pipe the output of make to a file so that I can include it
here?

Thank You

Danny

ps: I have included /usr/local/lib in ld.so.conf and ran ldconfig
afterwards. /usr/local/bin is also in my $PATH

 End Original

All the snapshots are in
/usr/local/bin/enlightenment/[ecore-0.9.9.023][edje-0.5.0.23][eet-0.9.10
.023][embryo-0.9.1.023][enlightenment-0.16.999.023][evas-0.9.9.023]

I thought that I did the configure part wrong (even though it did not
complain), so I did the following after I piped the output from make.
(Thanks to Morten Nilsen and Yasufumi Haga for reminding me about simple
piping commands :-) )

./configure
--with-evas-config=/usr/local/bin/enlightenment/evas-0.9.9.023/evas-conf
ig
--with-ecore-config=/usr/local/bin/enlightenment/ecore-0.9.9.023/ecore-c
onfig
--with-edje-config=/usr/local/bin/enlightenment/edje-0.5.0.023/edje-conf
ig
--with-eet-config=/usr/local/bin/enlightenment/eet-0.9.10.023/eet-config

--with-embryo-config=/usr/local/bin/enlightenment/embryo-0.9.1.023/embry
o-config

Now once again I would like to apologise to David Stevenson for the
longish post. I do not know what would be important and what not, so I
included the whole make output. :-)

And here is what make tries to tell me:

That's your issue. Doing make install for ecore should have stuck those
files in $PREFIX/include (probably /usr/local/include in your case). You
should figure out why it didn't.

 Hi,

I have some questions about localization in DR17... I know it is not too
important now, but if there is way to handle it...

 1) whatever I start it has problems with locales... There are few error
 messages i get :
 --- (gaim:8249):
Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library.
 Using the fallback 'C' locale.
 ---
 (gedit:8261): Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library.

perl: warning: Please check that your locale settings:

 LC_ALL = (unset),
 LANG = cs_CZ:cs:en_GB:en
are supported and installed on your system.
perl: warning: Falling back to the standard locale (C).
 ---

 2) in half of apps I cannot write non-US chars that I can in gnome or kde,
that isnt big deal, but Id like to switch (US and CZ) keyb layouts. Is that
 possible ?

well e17 will use/inherit your existing locale setup unless you set your own.
then geenrally it will want things like:

de_DE.UTF-8
or
fr_FR.UTF-8
or
zh_CN.UTF-8

etc. apps e runs will inherit e's locale setup. so e is inheriting whatever you
system has atm most likely. the rest will be a system setup issue. as for
keyboard layouts - e doesnt touch that. u can likely change that with xkb
command-line stuff.

 Thanks in advacne,
 Yaccobb
