Which script to remove duplicates?
Hi there, O Wise Ones, I've just had an error message when trying to start up Entourage (2004, 11.3.3 according to About Entourage), which required me to rebuild the database -- which I did (about 10 hours to do). When the rebuild was finished, thousands of messages in various folders were marked as unread and a few dozen showed up in my Outbox, waiting to be resent. Weird? or normal? (I immediately went offline and then moved them back to the Sent Items folder... but they are still bold/unread. No amount of clicking on them will unbold them, so now my Sent Items has a 116 in bold behind it. Weird? or normal?) As I scrolled through the messages, I could see that some messages had been duplicated and marked unread. So... I'd like to run a remove dupes script, which brings me to you: Which one do you prefer? Allen's, Barry's, Jolly's, or Paul's? On Jolly's, what does current selection mean (This script removes duplicate messages from the current selection in Entourage)? Currently selected mailbox? Currently selected messages? Something else? http://www.entourage.mvps.org/faq_topic/duplicates.html Thank you for sharing your collective wisdom. ~Linda -- To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/entourage-talk%40lists.letterrip.com/ old-archive: http://www.mail-archive.com/entourage-talk%40lists.boingo.com/

Get the 11.5 combo and update. :-) When the rebuild was finished, thousands of messages in various folders were marked as unread and a few dozen showed up in my Outbox, waiting to be resent. When Entourage did the rebuild, it made a copy. Be sure you backup the copy because you might need to revert to this copy to recover. Having a safety backup might save you during the recovery process. My suggestion is to open Entourage in the original Identity that was giving you problems. Manually move out your data then create a new Identity and import your files. Using Entourage archive (.rge) is the quickest, but there are scripts that will export as MBOX files and get the subfolders that I would also do since it's such a simple procedure and having extra backup never hurts. How to manually move your data. (when import fails and/or you need to move to a new Identity same version or revert to an older version) http://www.entourage.mvps.org/install/manual_install.html As I scrolled through the messages, I could see that some messages had been duplicated and marked unread. Jolly's script takes a huge amount of time. I would use one of the others, BUT my advice to create a new Identity will result in better long time stability. -- Diane -- To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/entourage-talk%40lists.letterrip.com/ old-archive: http://www.mail-archive.com/entourage-talk%40lists.boingo.com/
Remove many, but not all, messages from server?
I can't find this in the Help (I searched on Remove Message Server -- let me know if there's a better search phrase). Is there a way to remove a batch of messages from the server at once? For example, all the spam in my Junk folder -- I'd like to highlight 200, 400, 900 message at a time, and then choose a command to Remove Message from Server rather than removing them all from a particular account (don't want to remove the good messages from the server, only the junk) or clicking to do it in each message individually. The command doesn't appear in the Contextual Menu, and I'm not finding it in the Menu choices, either -- am I just looking in the wrong place? Entourage 11.3.3, Mac OS X 10.4.11, PowerMac G5 Thanks, Linda -- To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/entourage-talk%40lists.letterrip.com/ old-archive: http://www.mail-archive.com/entourage-talk%40lists.boingo.com/

Does that make the rebuild process run faster? or something else? The 11.3.5 did include several important updates. It's been so long I don't remember. The updates after that were not as important. The 11.3.5 combo was rolled into the 11.5 combo so you might as well install it. When Entourage did the rebuild, it made a copy. Perhaps I'm not understanding this question. You can copy over the Rules file, but you will need to reset each folder. I suspect you could get rid of many of your rules if you used categories. You can contact me off list to discuss this. Accounts are the hard part. Create screenshots. You can find the passwords in the keychain. You can try this option, but it's not guaranteed to work, but it's pretty painless to try. 1. Start with the Identity you want to use that's kerfluey. (obviously working on a copy) 2. Export everything as Entourage archive (.rge) and select to delete. 3. Import the Entourage archive (.rge) into this Identity and see if it's working. You will probably still have to reset your rules, but your account info will still be there. -- Diane -- To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/entourage-talk%40lists.letterrip.com/ old-archive: http://www.mail-archive.com/entourage-talk%40lists.boingo.com/

I have applied the 11.3.5 updater -- Word and Excel tell me 11.3.5, so that must have been the update that left Entourage's version number unchanged? :) 11.5 has only been out a couple months. Do you have a clone of your hd that you could go back to for a database? Not that doesn't have the rebuilt database in it. The rebuild was three or so weeks ago. My original question is really only about finding out which script is best to use to remove the duplicates in my current database. I have folders, subfolders, and sub-subfolders. Will these scripts keep the sent/received information, categories info, and attachments? Do a quick test and see. It's a 10GB database. There is no quick test, I think. Folders with subfolders and sub-subfolders have thousands of messages total. You can copy over the Rules file, but you will need to reset each folder. I suspect you could get rid of many of your rules if you used categories. You can contact me off list to discuss this. I already use Categories to visually differentiate mail -- I've assigned each one to a different client so that I can tell by color who is writing me (for example, six different project editors at the same publisher, each has a different Category so that her email shows up a different color in the client's folder -- and the client folder is a subfolder of the main client folder, which is a subfolder of Folders on my Computer). 1. Start with the Identity you want to use that's kerfluey. (obviously working on a copy) I don't have a kerfluey Identity any longer -- I rebuilt that database. I guess I'm confused. Do you mean the Identity I rebuilt? 3. Import the Entourage archive (.rge) into this Identity and see if it's working. Couldn't I simply back up this identity, then delete everything in it, and then import the backup? Or will that not give me a carbon copy of what I've got now? Why would I need to go the .rge route, I guess is my question? I really only was looking for people's opinions on which script they would use to delete the duplicates that magically reappeared. Look where this has gone -- I never knew I had such problems. Bellwether wrote: It's a 10GB database. There is no quick test, I think. Folders with subfolders and sub-subfolders have thousands of messages total. Have you considered archiving some of your older mail in a separate Identity? You can copy over the Rules file, but you will need to reset each folder. I suspect you could get rid of many of your rules if you used categories. You can contact me off list to discuss this. I already use Categories to visually differentiate mail -- I've assigned each one to a different client so that I can tell by color who is writing me (for example, six different project editors at the same publisher, each has a different Category so that her email shows up a different color in the client's folder -- and the client folder is a subfolder of the main client folder, which is a subfolder of Folders on my Computer). You aren't taking advantage of how categories can be used in rules. If you used, if in category client x, move mail to select folder. You can delete all the if from using email address into one rule. Assign them one category by client. You can have multiple categories per contact. This way you will reduce your rules and still have your different colored entries. Couldn't I simply back up this identity, then delete everything in it, and then import the backup? Or will that not give me a carbon copy of what I've got now? Why would I need to go the .rge route, I guess is my question? That was what I was describing with the kerfluey Identity. I consider your current Identity kerfluey with all the problems it has. You can do it with the MBOX method, but that does not get tasks, notes, calendar events. Entourage archive (.rge) is really easier to import and setup. -- Diane -- To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/entourage-talk%40lists.letterrip.com/ old-archive: http://www.mail-archive.com/entourage-talk%40lists.boingo.com/
