Re: [Finale] Instrumentation and orchestration books
Mr Bailey: Your opposing viewpoint is well taken. As I said to Dr. Carter in a private message, my original post was not intended to detract from his efforts (even though it may have seemed that way) and I definitely agree that it is important to support the little guy as much as possible. Yet there are students and others who do have to be very careful with their money, so I think they deserve to know that significant savings can be found. A savings of a few dollars here or there can add up to a lot over time. For what it's worth, I purchase most of my books (which tend to be highly specialized) either through small guys on the Web or through my local bookstore (which is still, luckily, above water). I only go to the big guys for more popular, mass market titles. And, for the record, I've had excellent service from Amazon.Com. Well, at least most of the time :-). Wade Kotter David H. I feel the service Nick Carter provides our industry is a great one, so I purchase things from him when I can, even though I may be able to find them less expensively elsewhere. Good service comes at a price. Having lost our only good local bookshop who really cared (and who could get books that even BN and Borders couldn't because they can only order through their distributor) when the two behemoths moved into town (my and my wife's business wasn't enough to keep them in business) I refuse to purchase things from Amazon or any of its affiliates! Price ain't everything! I can still quote passages from it. I'll have to look for it at Barnes and Noble.
