[Fink-users] Fink update all failed compiling gcc 4.4.4

2009-09-29 Thread Kingston Mail Server
While updating fink, I received this error:

Failed: phase compiling: gcc44-4.4.1-1000 failed

Before reporting any errors, please run fink selfupdate and
try again. If you continue to have issues, please check to see if the
FAQ on fink's website solves the problem. If not, ask on the fink-users
or fink-beginners mailing lists, with a carbon copy to the maintainer:

None fink-de...@lists.sourceforge.net

Note that this is preferable to emailing the maintainer directly, since
most fink package maintainers do not have access to all possible
hardware and software configurations.

System: 10.5.8 MacPro Quad core. 10 GB Main Memory 3.5 TB Disks

Any suggestions would surely be appreciated.

That's not actually the error; that's a symptom of the error. Literally
every possible failure mode during the compile phase will produce this.
Your error is noted below.

You have a third-party gmp in /usr/local which isn't compatible with our
gcc44. As per our FAQ:

http://www.finkproject.org/faq/comp-general.php?phpLang=en#usr-local-libs

you can /usr/local out of the way while you build gcc44 to solve this.

Hello, Ben. I've been able to build iodine on Intel OS 10.5.8, 32-bit

Could you please tell us the output of the following command on your

Again, advice is much appreciated.

If you 'fink install pyobjc-py25-1.4-3 (assuming you have the
unstable tree active), does the same problem occur? The 2.0+ version
is known to be unusable on certain platforms whereas the 1.4 version
is not marked with any restrictions. However, during the build of 1.4
on 32bit, I see compiler warnings about pointer arithmetic. That's
often a sign of visible breakage upon going to 64bit.

Right. But it is a standard recommendation to selfupdate and re-try

Right. But it is a standard recommendation to selfupdate and re-try
before sending an error report ...

I did a fink selfupdate again before I sent the message. I simply did
not mention it in my posting. At that point I assumed you did not yet
know you had made a mistake, so I posted the list. Before I sent this
reply, I selfupdated again, and ran the program. The program built
fine, so the error has been fixed. Thank you for volunteering to be a
maintainer, and I am sorry if I ruffled your feathers. Thanks again.

Hello, Ben. I've been able to build iodine on Intel OS 10.5.8, 32-

Could you please tell us the output of the following command on
 your system?

 ls -l /usr/include/arpa/nameser*compat*

 I get

Let's also notify the maintainer of the package (cc'ed).

Hello, Ben. Jack, the maintainer, has just committed a potential fix
to this problem. Would you please test the new version
(iodine-0.5.2-3) on your box? If you're using CVS as your selfupdate
method, it should be readily available. If you're using rsync, it
should be available in one hour at the latest.

Cheers,
