[Fink-users] configure: error: Cannot find LAPACK libraries….

2012-06-08 Thread Saleh Elmohamed
Hi guys,

Any thoughts on why this type of failure occur and possible
fix that might mitigate it... I tried the 'fink configure' with 1 but noticed
any
change... Thanx.

Cheers,
Saleh

Before reporting any errors, please run fink selfupdate and try again.
Also try using fink configure to set your maximum build jobs to 1 and
attempt to build the package again.
If you continue to have issues, please check to see if the FAQ on Fink's
website solves the problem. If not, ask on one (not both, please) of
these mailing lists:

The Fink Users List fink-users@lists.sourceforge.net
The Fink Beginners List fink-beginn...@lists.sourceforge.net,

with a carbon copy to the maintainer:

Alexander Hansen alexkhan...@users.sourceforge.net

Note that this is preferable to emailing just the maintainer directly,
since most fink package maintainers do not have access to all possible
hardware and software configurations.

Please try to include the complete error message in your report. This
generally consists of a compiler line starting with e.g. gcc or g++
followed by the actual error output from the compiler.

Also include the following system information:
Package manager version: 0.32.6

Open up Xcode and check on the Downloads-Components tab of its
Preferences whether the Command Line Tools show up as installed or not.

If they don't, then install them. (You've been using command-line tools
that came with an earlier Xcode if this is the case).

If they do show up as installed, post back.

fort77 is one of those language packages that may have
got downloaded and installed from fink... I certainly have
no need for it and it is not anywhere in /usr/local...

Do you think that is the main cause of this

No problem. I'm glad we were able to get this straightened out.

In my opinion, Apple should have automatically installed the command
line tools for Xcode 4.3 for people who were upgrading from an earlier
 version of Xcode.

Maybe you're now behind a firewall that blocks rsync. In that case there's
nothing we can do, since we don't control your network administrator. :-)

If that is indeed the case, you may need to switch to selfupdate-cvs. If you
do that, check with your network administrator to see if any proxies are
required, and configure those via fink configure.

make sense, but it is probably a consequence of the creation of the patch

That looks different than before. You appear not to have the most current
 update, since that would have

 + sed -e 's|@PREFIX@|/sw|g'
  + /usr/bin/patch -p1

However, it looks like you don't have a patch executable in your PATH at all
now. What do you get from type -a patch or which patch (depending on
what shell you're using as per my prior message) ?

In bash, type -a patch will show the locations of all of the patch
executables in your PATH. In tcsh, where patch will do the same thing. If
you have other patch executables that could well be leading to the same
 problem.

You might want to try another selfupdate, too. I just made the proper fix to
make sure that qt3 uses Apple's built-in patch a couple of hours ago (I tried
to do that earlier, but missed seeing a patch).

Jack Howarth howarth.at.f...@gmail.com

Note that this is preferable to emailing just the maintainer directly,
since most fink package maintainers do not have access to all possible
hardware and software configurations.

Please try to include the complete error message in your report. This
generally consists of a compiler line starting with e.g. gcc or g++
followed by the actual error output from the compiler.

Also include the following system information:

Hi all,

After a number of long runs it looks like the same failure
at the end as mentioned last time.

The attachment below is only the tail end of the run.
Too long to attach the whole thing.

Thanks again,

2015-05-11 Thread Saleh Elmohamed
That will take quite a while and it will be too big... Not sure will
have any time soon to do so. If you guys can't fix these problems
then I think I'll just call it quit on fink and move to something else.
I just don't have much time for this constant reporting on bugs...

 Saleh,
The original error probably is earlier in the build so I will
need to see a full log of the gcc49 build.

2015-05-12 Thread Saleh Elmohamed
Hi Jack and Alex,

I'd like to sincerely apologize about the tone of my previous
message. It was a bit unprofessional and I'm deeply sorry
for that. I really didn't mean or allude to anything negative
about fink which has been working very well for me over the
last number of years... It is just recently there have been a number
of bugs related to various outside packages preventing from
doing successful selfupdates.

In any case, as mentioned since those runs are quite long spitting
out lots of compilation and other info, do you need a copy of the entire
log file or just certain part of it? Would you accept the file as
an attachment or would you rather I do a cut--paste and send as
a text message? ...

Thanks, and again, my sincere apologies. Many thanks for a great
job maintaining and keeping fink up to date.

Cheers,
Saleh

 Saleh,
I doubt you will find MacPorts as a panacea for your problems. I
maintain a number of packages there as well. The absence of strict
enforcement of build dependencies coupled with the rampant use of
variants in port builds is its own form of torment. For example, pymol
 requires...

 require_active_variants tcl corefoundation
 require_active_variants tk quartz

to provide the correct variants of tcl/tk for running pymol but port
lacks any real enforcement of this requirement so the end users have
to handle it themselves by manually installing the required
 dependencies.

Here’s the deal: in general, our developers put packages out after they’ve
tested them on their own machines. Since build systems can get quite
complex, it is essentially impossible for a packager to cover every possible
failure that can occur with every possible interaction with other Fink
packages. It’s even harder for the case of interactions with packages from
outside of Fink. That’s why we rely on user reports to help us try to
mitigate problems as much as we can. Another issue is that not all
maintainers have access to all OS X versions and sometimes upstreams make
subtle changes which break builds on some but not all OS X versions,
 particularly on older ones.

If you don’t want to have to report _build_ bugs, then pre-built binaries
are what you need. Other build systems will have their own build-time
 issues.

Re: [Fink-users] Failed: phase compiling: flac-1.3.1-1 failed ...

2015-09-26 Thread Saleh Elmohamed
Hanspeter,

Many thanks for the suggestion. I looked at developer.apple.com/downloads/
<http://developer.apple.com/downloads/>
for Command Line Tools and the closest and most recent set of tools
I found there that would compatible with the system I have is the one for
OS X Lion (version 10.7.5) for Xcode — April 2013. … It mentions there
that it can be installed on the system using the download preferences pane
within Xcode 4.6.2 and LATER. Also the package requires Mac OS X 10.7.4
or LATER.

Anyway, downloading and installing those tools made no difference
whatsoever because looks like they are identical (in version number) to the
one already installed.

Would appreciate it if you have other thoughts or suggestions on this.
Many thanks, again.

Cheers,
Saleh
