Hi All 2 personal advertisements seeking mates a month are allowed on the list. Its unfair to others if you post your advertisement every few days. In the past, many have complained that they see too many personal advertisements on the list. So a restriction of 2 personal advertisements per month has been imposed. You may, if you wish, place your advertisement in the classified section at www.gaybombay.info as well. In case you want to reply to a members personal advertisement, kindly click on the persons email address. This will ensure that your reply goes to the concerned person and not to entire list which is what happens when you hit the reply button. Re: g_b Harish's story and child abuse--A suggestion
Thanks Harish, Thanks for the information about Rahi, Muskan and Tulir. I am staying in Bomaby, and studying in a reputed school/junior college but I was not knowing about any such organisation. I got lot of friends. I talked to them and nobody knew anything about such organisations. After I join this community I found a platform where I can freely and boldly discuss such things. I got good and bad experiences here. Found really good friends. I told my friends also to join this community. I told them that to join this community you need not be a gay. I told them that gays are not bad some of them are really loving and caring. One should learn how to keep a safe distance. My suggestion is, such victims should form a group and visit schools, colleges, play ground etc. and educate students as to what is child abuse and how they should fight against it. Let them know whom to approach in such cases, let the child know that he is not alone. May be some NGO is already working in the same direction I am not sure but the efforts are not enough. I have observed that either a child is not at all educated or is over educated.. Both are dangerous. Not only children's but parents also need to be educated. Following are some instructions I found on one site. Does your child know the meaning of sex abuse? Did you know that one in three girls in the world is sexually abused before reaching the age of eighteen, and one in four before the age of fourteen? In the case of boys, one in six is sexually abused before the age of sixteen. Quite shocking, to say the least. According to sociologist David Finkelhor, who has conducted a massive study on child sexual abuse in over 19 countries besides the United Statesand Canada, sex abuse percentages in most countries are comparable with North American research figures. The overall percentages range from 7% to 36% for girls and 3% to 29% for boys. Most of these studies found females to be abused at 1.5 to 3 times more than boys. We can clearly see that sexual abuse is an international problem and not restricted to just a few countries in the world. In fact, after countries like Philippines, Sri Lanka and Thailand, countries like Nepal, India and Cambodia are facing an increasing number of paedophiles. A research carried out by Sakshi, a New Delhi-based non-governmental organization, says that 80% of Indian girls and women, belonging to all social classes, experience sexual abuse in their own families and friend circle. Majority of them prefer to remain silent. According to the State of Child Rights in India, incidences of child abuse are definitely on the rise especially since the nineties.. It is quite shocking to know that - 66% sexual offenders know their victims. - 32% paedophiles have abused their own children. - 49% paedophiles are attracted to unstable children. WHAT EXACTLY IS CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE? Child sexual abuse is any sexual contact between a child and another person (from fondling to rape) with or without force. People who prefer sexual activity with a child are known as 'paedophiles' . It is important to remember that such offenders are completely 'responsible' and guilty in the abuse, even if they have taken the consent of the minor child. The consent of a child is not considered to be any consent at all. It is imperative to note that family members or close neighbors or frustrated fellow mates can manipulate children. Little wonder that one out of every six abusers is a child. They can be

g_b India's Different Gay Divide
India's Different Gay Divide BANGALORE, India -- Gay men aren't accepted in Indian society, and as a result they have been extremely closeted. But in the last five years, the Indian gay community has moved into and flourished on what has probably been the most accepting space they could have ever hoped to find -? the Internet. But in India, the Net is still an urban phenomenon, available only to those who can afford to be connected as well as communicate in English. Now, the more affluent meet people online and avoid the dangers associated with cruising the streets to look for partners. But the Net is also creating new class divisions within the gay community. Before the Net, everyone had to go to the common cruising areas within every city, said Elavarthi Manohar, who works with Sangama, a sexual rights organization based in Bangalore. If you are gay or bisexual, you know about these places. They are usually public toilets, parks or secluded lanes, and when one goes looking for sexual partners there, one tends to meet people from different socioeconomic backgrounds. You would come across servants and businessmen, so at least some interaction across the class would happen. But going to these cruising areas make gay men easy targets for police actions. The police frequent these places and very commonly either rape the men they catch there or try and extort money from them, so I suppose from that point of view meeting people online provides more immediate safety, Manohar said. While gay online dating does not work much differently than how it does for heterosexuals, the anonymity it provides is of great significance in a country where gay men usually give in to family pressures and get married rather than choose to come out about their sexuality. They will then spend the rest of their lives frequenting cruising areas for sexual partners, said Chandra Shekhar Balachandran, founder of the Dharani Trust in Bangalore. What they do not understand is that they are under enormous threat of contracting STDs and AIDS, which they will probably go home and pass on to their wives. Balachandran started KhushNet -- one of the most popular Indian gay mailing lists while he was in the United States. The Net does isolate groups as far as connectivity goes, Balachandran said. But about the language barrier, I have noticed that just a basic familiarity with English is enough. People tend to create their own way of talking, by typing Hindi words using the English alphabet. What Balachandran finds most interesting are the kinds of conversations that take place on popular chat rooms such as Indiatimes.com and Datingdesis.com. The discussions are quite elite due to the kind of medium it is, he said. Indians have this thing for fair skin. So often I come across someone who says, 'I am 24, a software engineer. But I am a little on the dark side. Is that OK?' It is as though the whole concept of a fair girl in a heterosexual match has been lifted and placed right into the homosexual arena. For those who can get access, the fact that they can communicate with organizations across the globe has played a vital role in helping them shape and manage fledgling nonprofits here in India. Vinay Chandran started Swabhava in 1999 to provide online, telephone and personal counseling to sexual minorities. He is slowly mobilizing resources and networking with similar organizations in India to repeal Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code that criminalizes sodomy. People like to believe that no one around here has sex, they just make babies. So, gays are not even given any sort of consideration, Chandran said. But the Net has helped us bring about some sort of change. Like when I go to a debate about gay rights, there is so much more information available now that it gives us an idea of the bigger picture -- about what groups in the West are lobbying for, and on what they are basing their arguments. Chandran works within tight parameters. The Indian police recently arrested two men in a cruising area in the northern city of Lucknow, and Chandran is concerned that cops in other cities might begin to bear down upon gay organizations. They might just come in here and shut me down for what they consider possession of pornographic material -- though it might just be some gay literature, he said. And once people hear that our offices were raided, even if we do clear stuff up, they will always be hesitant in approaching us for any sort of counseling. Just to be safe, I have boxed up all my copies of Bombay-Dost (India's first magazine for the gay community). For us in India, it is just the beginning. And it has been such a tough journey, said Chandran

g_b India: Visually challenged CEO brings homosexuality to celluloid
http://www.india-forums.com/bollywood/article.asp?id=8860 Visually challenged CEO brings homosexuality to celluloid New Delhi, April 3 Karan Goel, 27, is not just another entrepreneur from Punjab. He is visually impaired, works via talking gadgets and has just made a film that tackles the dilemma of homosexuals in India. 'The Other Side', a one-hour-and- 45-minute film, is an attempt by Ludhiana-based Goel to showcase how a physically challenged person can overcome his disability to make a movie and that too for and on a section of Indian society that is emotionally disabled - the homosexuals. Goel is the CEO of King Multitech Global Pvt. Ltd., which makes regenerative medicine. 'When I was 15, I found out I was suffering from Retinitis Pigmentosa (an eye disease). When people found out, they started distancing themselves from me and began boycotting me. I went ahead to finish my studies through correspondence but later left that too. 'I feel such discrimination also happens with homosexuals in India. Later, I went abroad to do my graduation from San Francisco State University and there I realised how liberal people were about homosexuality, unlike here,' Goel told IANS over phone from Mumbai. 'When I came back to India, my father suggested that I do something for society. He said, 'Let's make a movie!' And homosexuality was a subject that came immediately to my mind,' said Goel, who is not gay himself. According to him, the film is aimed at teenagers who often find themselves at crossroads if they feel sexually attracted to a person of his or her own gender or for those who fail to identify their sexual orientation. 'People here don't understand that homosexuality is a natural phenomenon. Most families ask their children to leave the house and go far away if they find out their child is gay. The Indian government itself says it's a crime to be a homosexual. But when one is born with that sexual orientation, what can a person do?' he asked. Directed by Honney-Rommey, the film stars Gaurav Bajaj, Anand Mathur and Anjali Mathur. Apart from having produced the film, Goel is also the writer and associate director of the movie. 'We have left an open ending to the film. The only message it tries to give is that parents need to understand their child and not leave them to be alone on the streets if he or she is gay,' he said. Last year several activists and supporters of gay rights took to the streets in Delhi, Bangalore and Kolkata in possibly their largest march to demand they be treated as normal human beings. To an extent, homosexuality has come out of the closet and into mainstream cinema as well. But it is mostly shown as breezy comic fare in most films, including 'Kal Ho Naa Ho' and 'Kya Kool Hai Hum'. But 'The Other Side' is a serious and sincere effort to change rigid perceptions about homosexuality in Indian society. Goel plans to release the film commercially. He says he made the film mainly to create awareness about the issue. He had a special screening of the film in Mumbai Thursday for members of The Humsafar Trust, an open gay community-based organisation in the financial capital. Goel hopes the film will also be a benchmark for other people who suffer physical disabilities to do something 'extraordinary'. (Radhika Bhirani can be contacted at radhik...@ians.in)
