Re: [Geoserver-users] Geoserver on SUSE?

2011-11-21 Thread Angelos Tzotsos
Hi,

I have been using Geoserver in production under openSUSE for more than 3
years now without problems.
The only issue has been the Java version to use (Sun vs OpenJDK).

Since I am the maintainer of the openSUSE/SLES/SLED Geoserver RPM
package, I have been contacted by users from time to time. Mostly about
package updates... never had a serious platform problem.

For sure Andrea has more experience on this subject, but there are some
lizards working with Geoserver... :)

Cheers,
Angelos

Mind, I did not say there are none out there, I also hear people

Ended up using Java JDK 6

This may be the same problem you have

Hi All,
I have GeoWebCache (V 1.2.6) that comes built-in with Geoserver and I am
attempting to add the file geowebcache.xml to the gwc directory so that I
can cache tiles in a projection other than 4326 or 900913.
That is the only step I have taken so far. I have added that file then I
restarted Geoserver with a big FAIL (it wasn't able to start again until I
moved the geowebcache.xml out of that directory).
Is there a template somewhere where I can figure out how to write out the
correct geowebcache.xml what the next steps are?
I have attached the geowebcache.xml file a text file of the tomcat log
when trying to restart Geoserver with the geowebcache.xml file in the gcw
directory.

My Geoserver build information:

   - Version2.1-RC5
   - Subversion Revision-1
   - Build Date20-apr-2011 10:12
   - GeoTools Version2.7.0.2 (rev -1)

Thanks!

[Geoserver-users] Nightly build behaviour

2011-11-21 Thread Terry.Rankine
Hi guys

I have some data in postgis, and I am using a nightly snapshot and I can't seem
to get geowebcache to allow me to seed the layer.

I have two tables, one works fine, the other is unusable - and I cant get it to
compute the lat/long bounds properly either.

No obvious errors loading the data store (tomcat start) and nothing in the
logging to help me look somewhere

screeny attached.

Any Ideas?

[Geoserver-users] GML in GeoServer?

2011-11-21 Thread Ákos Maróy
Hi,

I'm trying to find out if GML files are supported by GeoServer. I can
see from the 2.2.x documentation that there is supposed to be an
extension that would add GML 2.x support:
http://docs.geoserver.org/latest/en/user/data/gml.html#gml-install

here it says that I should download the extension, but I can't seem to
the extension itself. I looked at at sf.net download page, and also on
the nightl build downlaod directories, both community:
http://gridlock.opengeo.org/geoserver/trunk/community-latest/ and ext:
http://gridlock.opengeo.org/geoserver/trunk/ext-latest/ , but I don't
seem to find a GML extension there.

I also downloaded the latest night war build, and installed it in a
tomcat container. interestingly this seems to have two gml related files
in tomcat-root/webapps/geoserver/WEB-INF:

gt-xsd-gml2-8-SNAPSHOT.jar
gt-xsd-gml3-8-SNAPSHOT.jar

but despite this, when going for the 'add new datasource' page, GML is
not listed among possible vector data sources.

I wonder how one can try out GML support in GeoServer?

[Geoserver-users] INSPIRE mapping with app-schema

2011-11-21 Thread Ruben Velasco Vega
Hi,

During the last months Gijon http://en.turismo.gijon.es/ City Council has
been involved in the Plan4All http://en.turismo.gijon.es/ , a European
project were we had to publish geographic information following the INSPIRE
directive.

We used GeoServer and app-schema to publish our data (the Land Cover and Land
Use themes) and have written down our experience in the form of a tutorial. You
can find it here:

https://sites.google.com/site/inspiremappingtutorial/

It includes some useful resources like sample data and the complete GeoServer
data folder.

I hope it helps someone on the implementation of the INSPIRE directive with
GeoServer.

Any suggestions will be welcome.

Regards,

Rubén Velasco.

GML as a datastore is not supported since a few years ago.
No one was maintaining that datasource and while GML is
a good and rich data exchange format it is not suitable
for data serving, it's slow to parse, uses a lot of disk space
and does not have any spatial index.

Generally speaking I'd suggest to use ogr2ogr to import
the GML into a spatial database or turn it into a shapefile
and serve from there.

In my spare time I'm also working on a new store that will
allow GeoServer to use the OGR library eventually installed
on the operating system. The code is still pretty new and
has not undergone any kind of load testing to assess its
stability under stress, but I hope that it will be offered
as an option in the future when GeoServer 2.2.0 gets
released.
OGR can read many formats, including GML.

As another option one could use the existing GML2/GML3
parsing abilities of GeoTools (the jars you mentioned)
to build a pure java data store.

Cheers
Andrea

Hmm... the SLD looks fine, may it be that the problem is in the

See the example here:

[Geoserver-users] Polygon wrapping around the globe

2011-11-21 Thread Evan Martin
Hi,

I'm new to GeoServer, so I may be missing something obvious. When I
visualise a line or polygon that spans the dateline (eg. 175 0 to -179
0) it goes the long way, all the way around the globe (354 degrees). Of
course, what I want to see is it crossing the dateline (6 degrees). Is
there an easy way to do this? Some setting perhaps? I'm using GeoServer
2.2.1 with PostGIS 2.0.0.

Regards,

Evan

[Geoserver-users] performance of tomcat6 vs apache2

2011-11-21 Thread Robert Buckley
Hi,

I was having performance problems today and decided to test whether an
application runs faster through tomcat6/webapps or through apache2/ htdocs root
directory.

tomcat6 = 16.69 s
DocRoot = 30.99 s

Is this normal? Is this generally known or just a coincidence on my server due
to me not knowing about setting up a server environment?

Thanks,

Rob--

Hi Tim,
We are using Java JDK 6 so I guess that is not the problem.

 Hi Hailey

I had exactly the same issues, tried everything including rolling back
GeoServer to 2.0 ended up figuring out it was Java JDK 7

 Thanks!
 Hailey

In my spare time I'm also working on a new store

You have spare time despite all your voluntary support for Geoserver? I
am amazed and I salute you.

Evan, what are you visualising it with? If OL, then make sure you have
OL 2.11.

Andrea, are there any example data stores you'd recommend looking at to use

I've answered a similar question on the devel list lately, see here:
 http://osgeo-org.1803224.n2.nabble.com/Creating-new-geoserver-data-store-extensions-td6988274.html

I think we do this regularly. Here is one of mine:
http://osgeo-org.1803224.n2.nabble.com/adding-a-custom-data-store-tp6522850p6523518.html

Perhaps we need a page in the manual? Users otherwise miss the tutorials
as they are in GeoTools space.

Re: [Geoserver-users] [ExternalEmail] Nightly build behaviour

2011-11-21 Thread Ben Caradoc-Davies
According to my reading of the definition, your source CRS is incorrect:
EPSG:3112 is eastings and northings in metres.
http://spatialreference.org/ref/epsg/3112/

Your data appears to be longitude and latitude, perhaps GDA94
(EPSG:4283)? GeoServer is working correctly as it knows that your data
is all within 100 metres of one point. :-)

I don't know why one table appears to work. What is in your
geometry_columns?

Kind regards,
Ben.

 Hi guys

I have some data in postgis, and I am using a nightly snapshot and I can't
seem to get geowebcache to allow me to seed the layer.

I have two tables, one works fine, the other is unusable - and I cant get it
to compute the lat/long bounds properly either.

No obvious errors loading the data store (tomcat start) and nothing in the
logging to help me look somewhere

 screeny attached.

 Any Ideas?

 Regards,
 Terry
