I'm not convinced this will really help, but does someone with even faster fibre than me care to give it a try? (some judicious installation of real ethernet cable got mine running reliably at 55Mbps, but I still can't reproduce the problem people were reporting here.) Maybe I'm being thick, but can't someone setup a server on a local network to stream from and then test connecting the rtmpdump client to that? Then it would be possible to test at 100Mbps or even 1Gbps speeds. Even if a server program isn't available I'm sure an existing stream could be captured somehow and the same network commands played back to the client? Agree, progress in % and speed instead of the *... would be much appreciated. Doesn't need to be centred. Unfortunately that's not actually output from the get_iplayer script, it's from the tool rtmpdump that get_iplayer executes to actually do the download and so we can't do anything about it here. Re: Accessing the BBC from outside the UK
To be honest, I don't see the point of get_iplayer, at least for me, since I can access and download those iplayer programs available in Dublin on my browser, which is a good deal easier to use than get_iplayer. If your browser works okay, it probably means that a properly configured get_iplayer installation will work okay too. But if you don't need get_iplayer then don't use it. The main reason I use it because my broadband is so poor at peak times that it won't stream programs in the browser without pausing every 30 seconds to buffer the content to play a few more seconds of video, it's completely unwatchable. It works fine at 2 am when the load on the exchange is much less, but that's not very convenient. Get_iplayer saves the day by letting me download programs to my HDD and then view them from there. ___ get_iplayer mailing list get_iplayer@lists.infradead.org http://lists.infradead.org/mailman/listinfo/get_iplayer

Re: PS3 fast forward no sound problems
I had this problem and found it was due to the version of ffmpeg.exe being used. I downgraded to this one: FFmpeg version SVN-r22140-Sherpya, Copyright (c) 2000-2010 the FFmpeg developers built on Mar 2 2010 03:26:44 with gcc 4.2.5 20080919 (prerelease) [Sherpya] libavutil 50. 9. 0 / 50. 9. 0 libavcodec52.55. 0 / 52.55. 0 libavformat 52.54. 0 / 52.54. 0 libavdevice 52. 2. 0 / 52. 2. 0 libavfilter1.17. 0 / 1.17. 0 libswscale 0.10. 0 / 0.10. 0 libpostproc 51. 2. 0 / 51. 2. 0 Which fixes the problem (doesn't have the bug). IRC the probliem is that newer versions of ffmpeg produce files where the audio bit rate gets encoded incorrectly and confuses the PS3 into not playing the file at the correct speed. You can extract and re-encoding the sound track with the correct parameters and it fixes the problem on existing files. But downgrading to that older version of ffmpeg fixes the problem on new downloads. I don't know if the latest version ffmpeg has this problem fixed, I've not tried it out as I know the older one works fine. If you can't get hold of the older version let me know and I'll put it somewhere you can download it. HTH Michael On 17/10/2011 12:22, Oliver Christmas wrote: Hi there. Re: PS3 fast forward no sound problems
I can't quite remember how I was able to tell I file was bad, I think I was using one of ffmpeg's own tools ffprobe? to view the file data. Unfortunately I've deleted the bad files now so don't have one to look at. If you compare the bad files against good ones, you should be able to spot the difference. This is a batch file that I was playing with to reconvert the audio in a bad file, I was trying out various settings to see what was best, I'm sure I tried many more which I didn't keep. The PC was upstairs and I had to go back downstairs to view the result on the PS3, it got a bit tedious / tiring! ffmpeg.exe -i bad.mp4 -vcodec copy -acodec mp2 new.mp4 ffmpeg.exe -i bad.mp4 -vcodec copy -acodec aac -ar 48000 new-a2.mp4 ffmpeg.exe -i bad.mp4 -vcodec copy -acodec aac -ar 48000 -ab 94k new-94.mp4 In the end I just installed the working older version and re-downloaded the bad files from various other sources. Another fix was to use free PS3 Media Server application on the PC to transcode the output whilst streaming it to the PS3. Later on I bought one of these: http://www.ebuyer.com/267867-emachine-er1401-desktop-pt-nbzec-004 and installed XBMC to do my media playback with, uses less power than the PS3 and is much quieter. It was £129 at the time. It's quite a powerful little PC for the money, I keep meaning to install MAME etc on it too but haven't found the time. Stopping the PVR and deleting the partial file starts the process over again, it'll then get stuck at a different point and the process repeats over and over. I've tried 5 times now to clear this error (I deleted this program from the PVR list and the rest complete successfully). Can someone else please try and download this programme? It's only a 30 minute radio so shouldn't be too big. PVR Problem caused by invalid PC date
Hi, In February I managed to accidentally change my PC's date to 29th March 2011, it got reset back to the right date after a few days. However in the meantime get_iplayer had run in pvr mode and created a radio.cache file with the end of March date on it. After that each time get_iplayer ran in PVR mode it checked to see if it should refresh the radio feed it decided it didn't need to because it wasn't old (in fact it was dated in the future, although it contained only programs from Feb.). This behaviour continued even when the date was fixed on the PC, because the cache file's date didn't change. I diagnosed this problem and fixed it today by simply deleting the radio.cache file and get_iplayer created a new one with the latest data and correct date. However this date issue has caused the PVR to miss some programmes that I wanted, I'm not fussed about most of them but there's one :Just_a_Minute_Series_59_-_Episode_5 that I'd like to listen to. Is there anywhere I can get this program from now it's expired from iPlayer? Has someone perhaps still got their download and could share it with me please? According to the web it should of had Paul Merton, Gyles Brandreth, Shappi Khorsandi and Rick Wakeman, on the panel. Re: PS3 video fix FFMPEG 0.5.1 (22140)
This also fixed the PS3 playback issue for me (reverting back to the 22140 0.5.1 version of ffmpeg). The newer versions produce output that the PS3 gets upset with for some reason and it has to be transcoded to be compatible. Not an ideal solution, hopefully it will be fixed by a PS3 update or a new version of ffmpeg. Now I would love to find out whats going on here as this work-around isn't really a good long term solution. It ether a PS3 issue or FFMPEG. ___ get_iplayer mailing list get_iplayer@lists.infradead.org http://lists.infradead.org/mailman/listinfo/get_iplayer

Re: re Subject: Solution for windows users
Also running Ubuntu. Okay, I happen to have a Ubuntu virtual machine installed on the same windows box that I'm having the download troubles with. So I've just fired it up and installed the get_iplayer script and rtmpdump 2.3-2 from the Ubuntu Software Center Surprisingly (to me anyway) it's working fine, it's downloaded 46% of my randomly selected Arena download (why did I pick an hour long program to test with!). So it's obviously nothing to do with my IP address or internet connection as the working VM is using the same connection as the host PC which is failing. So this points to it being a problem with the Windows version of rtmpdump 2.3? ___ get_iplayer mailing list get_iplayer@lists.infradead.org http://lists.infradead.org/mailman/listinfo/get_iplayer
Re: re Subject: Solution for windows users
My version of 2.3 is working fine on windows... So was mine working okay (for months on end) it's only just stopped working like quite a few other people's has too from what I can gather. What anti-virus and/or firewall software do you have installed in windows? Windows Firewall (yes I know...) and Avast AV, I switched them both off and still get the same packet header error. I even tried rebooting the router (I've not tried rebooting the PC, I suppose I could, it is Windows after all). ___ get_iplayer mailing list get_iplayer@lists.infradead.org http://lists.infradead.org/mailman/listinfo/get_iplayer

Reboot didn't help. ;-) ___ get_iplayer mailing list get_iplayer@lists.infradead.org http://lists.infradead.org/mailman/listinfo/get_iplayer
Re: re Subject: Solution for windows users
I think I _may_ have cracked it! Doesn't seem to fix it for me unfortunately. I just tried the latest get_iplayer version from git dated 4th Jan 2011 (but still labelled as ver. 2.78) and it's still giving me the same RTMP packet header error. I even made sure I was running the right thing by calling the new version something else and it definitely still fails when run. ___ get_iplayer mailing list get_iplayer@lists.infradead.org http://lists.infradead.org/mailman/listinfo/get_iplayer

If you recall it was making downloads fail randomly depending on the direction of the wind and the CDN used. You will also need to delete the .swfinfo file if you patch get_iplayer for a proper fix. Ah! Deleting the .swfinfo seems to have fixed things. Thanks very much to everyone. I assume that file didn't exist on my fresh Ubuntu installation so it worked straight away. Sorry for causing all the noise on the list for a problem that had already been fixed months ago. I agree a new version of the script (tagged with a new number) would be very helpful. It also looks like the change log isn't very up to date. It makes diagnosing problems more difficult, you think you've got the latest version but actually haven't. ___ get_iplayer mailing list get_iplayer@lists.infradead.org http://lists.infradead.org/mailman/listinfo/get_iplayer
