Re: [Gimp-user] Gimp 2.10: bush default size

2018-06-21 Thread Richard via gimp-user-list
Personally, I'd think the idea behind the "Link" buttons is that any changes
you make to the brush settings in the Tool Options will be reflected in the
brush file (as if you'd made those changes in the Brush Editor) and, thus, when
you pick that brush again it will have the same settings you left it at the
last time.

HOWEVER, this does not seem to be the case at all (nor is it helped by the
built-in brushes being read-only) so essentially, the "Link" button is just an
"auto-revert" function, which I cannot see any practical use for currently and
have to wonder why someone thought it should be enabled by default.
(anyone...?)

Just turn it OFF.

Not necessarily, but as Liam pointed out there are various ways to reduce the
fiddle factor: in the rectangle select's tool options you can specify a fixed
size (width and height) so that you only have to worry about its positioning.
You can set guides at the precise locations you need them so the selection
rectangle can snap to them, and if all else fails you can fine-tune the
position manually in the tool options, too.

You are stroking the path onto the Text layer, which will convert it
from text to raster. To keep the Test layer you will need to stroke
the path onto a new layer.

[Gimp-user] lenovo yoga book - core pointer only

2018-06-21 Thread asfasty
Hello,

Since I am new I maybe make mistakes where and how to ask.

After going through publicly available posts I signed up to ask my question
since I could not find a solution/answer.

Is Gimp 2.10.x supposed to work with a lenovo yoga book?

I tried to find out what the manufacturer of the default pencil delivered with
it would be but could not find the correct information.

According to several discussions I found for older gimp versions I reinstalled
all the drivers.
In on post it was mentioning the older version of the wacom driver. Since I do
not know if that pen is even made by wacom I was wondering but installed it
anyway.

I also uninstalled gimp several times, swapped to the 2.8.x version to see if
that makes a change and tried to install in english / german (setup choice).

But I cannot make the pen work as other users described it in older posts. I
only have core pointer.

The tablet (yogabook) is a windows 10 64 bit OS version with latest windows
updates installed.

Windows 10 Pro
Build 1803
OS build 17134.112

I went through the windows updates first and then reinstalled all drivers I
could find on the lenovo site.

Under input devices it still only shows the core Pointer.
Then I read that you can attach to your table to a pc. So I connected the device
to my laptop which has gimp2 installed as well. Checking the input device
settings I found the same 'core pointer'.

Does anyone have an idea if it is even supposed to work?

Thank you in advance for any input/suggestions.

Regards,
Annette

Hold on, this is apparently a new feature not a bug. There's a new set of
buttons in the toolboxes called "link to brush default" (next to the "reset to
native size" buttons) and these are on by default. Turn it off and you should
be good to go.

Sorry, misread your question as the brush size varying between tools.

I don't know whether this is a deliberate decision or an unwanted side-effect of
the changes to the brushes - either way I can see what a pain it would be to
those who use a number of brushes (it even resets the size when going back to a
brush for which you have set the size!)

You could try reporting it as a bug - then we would find out if it was a
deliberate change.

In the meantime I have a couple of suggestions.

Firstly the third post in the following thread describes how to set GIMP so that
you can adjust the brush size using the mouse wheel.

http://www.gimpusers.com/forums/gimp-user/17876-changing-the-brush-sizes

Secondly it should be a simple exercise to write a script that would take as a
parameter the brush size that you want to use. Running the script should set the
brush size (using (gimp-context-set-brush-size size)). When you change brushes
you would then simply have to re-run the script - use "Filters/Repeat Last"
short-cut Ctrl-F (or you could change this short-cut to a single key press if
you want). This would probably be the best approach short of getting the problem
fixed. If you have problems writing a script let me know and I will see what I
can do.

>I tried that. It doesn't work. That setting is already checked but it
>keeps reverting the brush size anyway.

[Gimp-user] How to import the Gimp window arrangement?

2018-06-21 Thread ugajin
Hi all, I have GimpĀ 2.8.22 installed afresh on a new [replacement] internal HD
running OSX v10.13.5. Untill now I have been using Gimp 2.8.16 from a separate
[external] bootable drive. I noticed when I test booted the new installation of
Gimp that I would like to import the Gimp window arrangement from previous
installation. Is there a dirty way of doing this e.g. can I just replace the
sessionrc file in the new installation with the old sessionrc file? Thanks in

The layer will fail to be a text layer after being changed by any tool or
plug-in which is not the text tool. The text becomes just another painted
layer.

Perhaps a different software will retain the textural information, but not
GIMP.
