getting MythTV working properly is often a function of the inputs and

As I said, we'd need RF feeds. Specifically, we would want OTA and
Comcast. Comcast because they are the dominant cable provider in this
area. OTA would give us analog and digital signals to tune to.
Comcast will give us the analog cable, plus the local broadcast
channels in QAM-in-the-clear (hopefully; one never can tell with cable
co's). Assuming the right geography, even a temporary antenna should
be able to get us *some* OTA signal, so then all we need is the analog
cable feed. Trickier than our usual venue selection process (Does it
have a roof?) but doable, I think.

Can satellite even work with MythTV? I know HD sat sure won't.

Outputs are a lot simpler. For the most part, one HD TV is as good
as another. Sure, there are differences, especially when you start
tweaking at the high-end of high-def, but getting it working at the
'fest would get people most, if not all, the way there.

I'm thinking, as a follow-on, it might be good to have a MythTV
installfest. Pick some reasonably central location (or multiple
locations). Pick a time which is good for an installfest. Late
evenings tend to be not-so-good for this sort of thing. Weekend
mid-day, perhaps? Arrange a facility with lots of tables, Internet
access, and RF sources. Announce well in advance. Have everybody
bring their Myth boxes (or piles of hardware trying to be a Myth box)
and we can all help each other get stuff working.

I'm going to suggest NHTI in Concord as a location for this.
CentraLUG's old meeting room in the library is likely to have RF. But
it could be a bit small.

That could well be ideal, except for the RF feed requirement.
Ideally, we'd want both analog and digital cable, along with OTA
digital.

I wonder if we might want to chat with BLU about sharing an
installfest with them. Last I checked, they were doing the
installfest at WCVB Channel 5 in Needham. I'll bet they have some
signals there to play with ;)

Has a program in Broadband and Telecommications Technology that deals
with Analog and Digital Communications Systems.

Dr. Sterling Hough is the department head, worked at Bell Labs for 30

I am willing to bet that they not only have a few TV cable leads that
they could feed into people's boxes, but they have the equipment and
expertise to analyze what is wrong if it did not work.

And they probably have the space to hold an install fest. Probably
his students would like to participate too.

I will call him tomorrow (wednesday) and let you know.

I believe Sterling Hough was also a student in our LAMP classes that
Bill, Ted, David Berube and (to some degree) myself taught. (Was it last
