java accessibility under gnome 3.6

2015-06-17 Thread Don Raikes
Hello,

I am using Oracle Enterprise Linux 7.1, and have installed jdk 1.8.0 from
Oracle's otn site.

I also installed the java-atk-wrapper onto my system, however when I try to
load a swing application, orca just stops talking. I get no feedback in the
java window at all.

Are there any tricks to getting this working?

Thanks not sure the best way to go about that since as I just discovered this

Need to get orca working with a java 1.6 jdk-based application.

Hi Don:

You are best off using the GNOME release that includes the packages in
question. So, for example, assume you want to use Orca v2.30. You
should use all of GNOME v2.30.

Or, for example, you want to use Orca v2.28. You should use all of
GNOME v2.28. And so on.

gnome on enterprise linux

2008-05-08 Thread DON . RAIKES
Hi all,

Sorry for the cross posting, but I am not sure which list is better suited to
answer this problem.

I installed oracle enterprise linux 5.0.1 a while back.
Now I want to bring gnome/orca up to a more reasonable level rather than
orca-1.0.

To this end, I followed the instructions at:
http://live.gnome.org/Orca/DownloadInstall

and all the compilations and installations worked just fine.

I set the /desktop/gnome/interface/accessibility gconf key to true using
gconftool-2, and ran startx.

After a short period and all the disk activity stopped, I pressed alt+f2 and
typed orca.

nothing happened.
I checked my startx log file, and found the following messages:

Bonobo accessibility support initialized

(gnome-session:3945): atk-bridge-WARNING **: AT_SPI_REGISTRY was not started at
session startup.

(gnome-session:3945): atk-bridge-WARNING **: IOR not set.

(gnome-session:3945): atk-bridge-WARNING **: Could not locate registry
SESSION_MANAGER=local/draikes.com:/tmp/.ICE-unix/3945

There are a lot more error messages from various applications all saying that
the at_spi_registry was not started.

Is there anything else I need to do to get the at-spi-registry daemon to start?

I know that el5 is pretty old, but I am required to use it for some of my work,
and need to get orca to a point where I can use it with the latest
gnome-java-bridge and latest jdk's.

building gnome from scratch

2008-04-18 Thread DON . RAIKES
Hi all,

I need to update gnome on enterprise linux, and since it seems nearly
impossible to find all the requisite rpms, is there a good way to build gnome
from scratch?

I have tried jhbuild and garnome in the past without success.

Alternatively, is it more effective (safer) to pull all the srpms and just go
through the process of building them and resolving the dependencies along the
way?

problems compiling gnome-speech

2006-12-26 Thread Don Raikes
Hello,

I just installed fedora core 6, but want to recompile gnome-speech to enable
the swift voices I have installed on the system.

I checked gnome-common out of cvs and compiled it and installed it to
/opt/gnome2.

I checked out gnome-speech from cvs, and when i run

autogen.sh --prefix=/opt/gnome2

I keep getting a message saying it is unable to locate various autoconf macros,
and that I should adjust my ACLOCAL_FLAGS.

I tried:
export ACLOCAL_FLAGS=/opt/gnome2/share/aclocal

but I still get the error.

Can anyone tell me howto set this up?

I'm not a Fedora user, so I don't know much about it. But...if your
machine is inside your company, and your company has a firewall, then
you might be running into that and you will need to talk with your IT
department for how to get around it.

BTW, just to be 100% sure, you set CVSROOT to the following, and not the
misspelled version in your e-mail, right?

CVSROOT=:pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]/cvs/gnome

I verified this worked on my machine (i.e., I was able to grab sources
via the 'anonymous' directions), which is connected to the wide open
internet.

Re: pointer to instructions for gnopernicus on fc3 request

2005-04-18 Thread Don Raikes
Willem,

Gnopernicus works out-of-the-box on fedora core 3.
The things you need to watch out for are:
1. Updating gnome-speech to version 0.3.6 breaks the interaction with
festival.
2. You need to enable the accessibility features of gnome. I have a script
which I will post at:
http://www.draikes.com/cfg-gnome.sh
Run this script as any user to enable gnopernicus to work for that user.
note: the script asks whether you want brltty support. This will not work
unless you have recompiled gnopernicus with the brltty option.
3. Run startx from the command-line, and shortly, gnopernicus should start
speaking.

Re: java-access-bridge problems

2005-04-15 Thread Don Raikes
Peter,

I downloaded jdk 1.6.0 from java.net and installed it. I then recompiled
the java-access-bridge, and made the new synlinks.

I ran gnome and tried the notepad demo that ships with the jdk, and it
worked pretty well.

I then tried JDeveloper 10.1.3, and it actually started this time.
Unfortunately, I am unable to read items in a treeview. Is this a known
bug, or should I file it inbugzilla?

On a side not, is there a document that discusses an effective way to use
gnopernicus? I keep struggling to know what the keystrokes are to do
things like review the screen etc.

Peter Korn said:
 Hi Don,

The error message suggests that something is wrong with your symlink or
 with
the build of gnome-java-bridge.jar (that's what we usually call it, not
 gnome-access-bridge.jar).

By the way, Sun just made available a JDK 6.0 Binary snapshot (and source
too). See the binary at http://www.java.net/download/jdk6/binaries/ I've
 got
the Linux JDK runnnig on my system now. Seems a bit faster, and a

 being back-ported to a JDK 1.5.0_0x release).
