Re: [h-cost] FW: Shrunken wool

I've been told, but haven't ever gotten around to trying it, that if
you wash the wool in hair shampoo and rinse in conditioner that you
can unshrink it.

Unfortunately, no. You now have a piece of knitted felt. :-(

Not in my experience. However, I've been playing around with using the fulled
wool fabric for other things. Maybe you could get a vest out of it, or a
handbag? It's a creative opportunity!
Good luck!

Re: [h-cost] FW: Shrunken wool

2008-01-04 Thread Lynn Downward
I was at a vintage flea market where one booth was actually vests and
mittens and caps made from vintage felted (shrunken) sweaters (if you
stretch the definition of vintage to the 1980s). They made the vests from
the bodies of the sweaters and the caps and mittens from the sleeves. They
were soft and warm.

You could take the sweater to a good dry cleaners and ask them if blocking
it would help, but I'd guess that you have a retired sweater.
