[ha-Safran] CCLI 2020 | Deconstructing and Reconstructing Assessment - Proposals due 10/22/19

2019-09-17 Thread Anna M Levia via Hasafran
We'll greatly appreciate it if you'll post the following to your member
listserv.
For anyone interested in the issues inherent in library instruction at all
levels: a high-quality, single day conference to be held in May, 2020 in San
Francisco.
Call for Proposals
California Conference on Library Instruction 2020
Deconstructing and Reconstructing Assessment

In 2020, the California Conference on Library Instruction seeks to explore the
intersection of information literacy and assessment. At its best, assessment
provides us with data to make informed decisions. Assessment can be aimed at an
individual level, across library services, or for institutional learning
outcomes. However, valid questions have been raised about the value and
inherent bias of emerging and established assessment methods. For example,
technological solutions have been playing an increasing role to aid in
retention efforts and track student success, but these methods raise concerns
around patron privacy.

The California Conference on Library Instruction invites you to submit a
proposal for the 2020 program, to be held Friday, May 29, 2020, at the
University of San Francisco.

Examples of specific questions that proposals could address include:

  * Can assessment be both engaging and useful? How do you use the results to
create change? How are you using assessment to inform your instruction or your
instruction program?

  * How are you addressing diversity, equity, and inclusion in your
assessment? What critiques of assessment have influenced your approach?

  * How do you adapt your assessment methods for different students and
institutional environments?

  * How do online learning environments and user privacy concerns impact
assessment?

These are just a few ideas of what we are hoping to showcase at CCLI 2020. We
welcome any and all interpretations of the above suggested questions.

Please submit a proposal for one of the following formats: 60-minute
presentation or panel discussion, 75-minute active learning workshop, or 5-7
minute lightning talk. We recommend that prospective presenters review our
evaluation rubric for presentations and workshops at:
http://bit.ly/ccli2020rubric. Proposals should relate to the conference theme,
clearly outline the session, and be timely and applicable to librarians. For
presentations and workshops, please also include 2-3 learning outcomes, as well
as details on how you plan to incorporate active learning into your session.
Please submit your CCLI 2020 proposal at: http://bit.ly/ccli2020cfp.

The deadline for submissions is October 22, 2019. We appreciate your
consideration and look forward to hearing from you! Please visit
http://www.cclibinstruction.org/ for additional information. For questions,
contact CCLI Chair Matthew Collins at
colli...@usfca.edu or (415) 422-6923, or CCLI
Speakers Subcommittee Chair William Cuthbertson at
wcuthbert...@csuchico.edu or (530) 898-4990.

[ha-Safran] California Conference on Library Instruction 2021 - proposals due December 14

Call for Proposals
Same, But Different: How 2020 stretched our teaching capabilities and
strengthened our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

In 2021, the California Conference on Library Instruction (CCLI) seeks to focus
more deeply on our professional commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
(DEI) in light of the rapid move to online instruction due to the pandemic. The
extraordinary events of 2020 turned online instruction, sometimes viewed with
skepticism, into the only viable way to reach our students. In the process of
converting teaching and allied services from in-person to online, DEI issues
have continued to disproportionately affect our most vulnerable populations of
students. CCLI 2021 will provide a venue to reflect on the various ways we have
responded to these very unique challenges. More information on the proposal
process is available on our
website.

April, 2021 -- The Association of Jewish Libraries encourages the publication
of outstanding works of Judaica reference and bibliography through its annual
awards.

We are pleased to announce the following awards:

  * Bibliography award: Stone, Gerald K. Catalog of the Gerald K. Stone
Collection of Judaica: A Bibliographical Resource for Canadian Jewish Studies.
Boston: Academic Studies Press, 2020.
  * Reference award: Udel, Miriam. Honey on the Page: A Treasury of Yiddish
Children’s Literature. Forward by Jack Zipes. New York: NYU Press, 2020.
  * Honorary mention (Reference): Barsky, Zvi. Ḥanut ṿe-taṿit: mokhre sefarim
be-Erets Yiśraʼel, 1870-1948 (English title: Making a Mark: Booksellers in
Palestine, 1870-1948). Jerusalem: Mi-neged hotsaʼah la-or, 2019.

This year’s awardees exemplify AJL’s mission to foster and promote access to
information, learning, teaching and research.

AJL’s Reference and Bibliography Committee agree that Catalog of The Gerald K.
Stone Collection of Judaica will serve as a valuable and fascinating resource
for scholars of Canadian Jewry. In this monumental work, Gerald Stone has
organized, indexed, and annotated his collection of nearly 6,000 printed items
relating to myriad aspects of Jewish life in Canada. Honey on the Page (title
and charming cover illustration notwithstanding) is a scholarly work that will
serve as an important reference for researchers in numerous fields, not least
of which is the burgeoning study of children's literature. The notes on
translation will be of great interest to scholars of Yiddish. And of course,
children, both at home and in religious schools, will also enjoy the stories!
Ḥanut ṿe-taṿit (Making a Mark) is a powerful reference tool not just for
librarians, but also for researchers as well as for booksellers themselves. At
the same time, it reads as a narrative of the adventures and misadventures of
book traders in Palestine (Yehezkel Steimatzky among them) before the
establishment of the State of Israel. This beautiful work will entertain
experts and amateurs alike.

For their commitment and continuing support of these awards, AJL would like to
recognize and thank Dr. Greta Silver of New York (Reference Award) and Mr. Eric
Kline of Santa Monica (Bibliography Award).

[ha-Safran] CCLI 2022: Proposals due November 12th

Engaging in Speculative Pedagogy: Reimagining Library Futures with Creative
Foresight

In 2022, CCLI invites presenters to share the ways their instruction work
imagined or adapted something new in their setting and/or the ways their
current work explores and contains the groundwork for a future vision.

The push by some librarians to resist dominant structures and policies by
imagining something different has opened the door to new possibilities. The
possibilities latent in library work, in openness and universal access, require
that librarians change, demolish and build. Emerging instruction pedagogies and
practices based on these possibilities are humanizing librarians and our users,
as well as creating visibility through greater representation. Possibilities
for deconstruction of the dominant paradigm arise from librarians seeking out
nontraditional publication formats and challenging long held conventions and
practices (e.g., controlled vocabularies) that no longer hold up. When
librarians see students’ realities, we are catalyzed toward not only radical
creation of new programs, policies, collections, and spaces; but also new
approaches to instruction. Putting the traditional and safe aside — allowing
ourselves to engage in the speculative — has the power to propel our
imaginations and dream the impossible.

The deadline for proposal submissions is November 12, 2021. More information on

[ha-Safran] California Conference on Library Instruction Call for Prposals

2023-10-19 Thread Anna M Levia via Hasafran
California Conference on Library Instruction

Call for Proposals for "Play & Playfulness in Library Instruction"

In the environment of academic libraries, where there is pressure to be more
standardized and efficient, we look for ways to engage and center students
while being inclusive and equitable. How can we prepare students to think
critically with information literacy instruction? Embracing play and
playfulness in instruction is one strategy for building capacity in order to
grapple with weighty topics. The act of play can make it possible to gain
distance from reality in order to think past the constraints of life, and
instead adapt to a task with curiosity and fresh perspective. Incorporating
play simply for the sake of engagement is also worthwhile. CCLI seeks proposals
about how librarians have utilized play in their instruction to solve
information literacy challenges. Examples of the incorporation of play and
playfulness into instruction could include games or gamification, creative
prompts or scenarios, improv or theater, art or rapid drawing, storyboarding,
zines, storytelling, and other multimodal approaches to motivate and create
learning with students.

The deadline for proposal submissions is November 20, 2023. More information on
the proposal process is available on our
website.
