I pretty sure it's still broken.

I received another update this morning, but it was only dll files (on a

In VS mode, it seems that the server crashes 50% of the time when someone is
incapped, especially by a witch. Right before it crashes, the last line in
the console log is always someone getting incapped. This is happening with

I'd like to know how any of the changes made in the last two patches is
helping server operators at all. Why not leave legacy features enabled
for those who aren't using a client to start their servers :(

Also, can someone please confirm/deny that sv_search and
steamgroup_exclusive are still broken?

And is anyone noticing that a server started behind a NAT firewall (on
Linux) is not reporting the IP correctly? It's binding to 0.0.0.0 whe
not specified...

Regards.

A new, highly recommended Left 4 Dead update is now available. Please
run hldsupdatetool to receive the update. The specific changes
 include:
 - Made the variable mp_gamemode available again. Note that you can
also load maps directly with different game modes by specifying it in
 the
map command. For example, map l4d_garage01_alleys versus will set
mp_gamemode versus for you automatically and load the first map of
 Crash
 Course
 - Added mm_dedicated_force_servers to allow specification of a list
 of
dedicated server addresses manually used for searching
 (ms_force_dedicated_server is depreciated)
 - Updated shared libraries and DLLs preventing dedicated servers
 listing
correctly, appearing on Steam groups, and being found via sv_search_key

I've noticed on my servers that sv_search_key and steamgroup is not
always working.

Also, something you may want to let your players know if they use
mm_dedicated_force_servers, they need to enable sv_cheats and then
DISABLE BEFORE THE MAP STARTS. With sv_cheats enabled, acheivements are
not counted.

I await patiently a semi-rollback from the L4D dev team...

Re: [hlds_linux] empty servers?

2009-09-30 Thread ics
Well they did say they improved matchmaking system. I guess the
improvements are: (just guessing here)

1. Servers now use the Valve ranking system and find a server highest on
the list. (i have one ranked in top 200 according to that and there's
versus on all the time)
2. Matchmaking seems to assign people now to servers that they have over
200ms pings (again, just like in the early release days). This could be
related to point #1 ^. (People are getting thrown by some system that
accounts pings, server ranks and current player counts and players skill
level)
3. The matchmaking now ignores sv_gametypes sometimes, either its a bug
or game is forced on if there are no free servers around.

This might explain why some servers are pretty much empty. I have one
server too where there has been only 1 versus game despite the server
allowing only survival and coop. While this isnt really concerning
servers, how can simple thing as filter by ping be missing from the
matchmaking completely? The commands are usable via console anyway.
Today while i tried to play, i got thrown either high ping servers or
there wasnt any games on for expert level (yet there was 20 000 people
playing so finding only 5 servers on expert level with crash course
sounds very suspicious. As if the system wouldn't work as it should. I
would also welcome a system where a player (lobby host) could
pre-reserve a steamgroup server for their game if they belong to the
steamgroup. If they do not connect within 5 mins, then the server should
be free'ed. Its very annoying to get a lobby going and then find out you
have ti play on some crappy random server.

4 servers running a total of 256 forks all pretty much empty for the past 24

[hlds_linux] Fix this list

2009-09-30 Thread Ryan Davis
Valve,

Seriously fix the following things in L4D2 since apparently you attention
lies there:

1) Steam groups, at least every major content update patch has broken this.
2) Consistent cvars for the servers, stop shooting yourselves in the foot
and make some things standard.
3) QA department. It's obviously non-existent because any QA tester would
have found these issues.

I'm tired of updating my L4D server and having no one in my steam group find
the servers, it's sort of, working right now. How do I know start a VS
server without the mp_gametypes not working? I'm starting the server with
the vs map in the command line but it's showing up as a Coop server? You've
obviously changed some cvar in the list to start or stop this.

 Hi all,

As much as I'm enjoying having all my servers full, I suggest valve should
fix the reason sv_region takes servers out of groups and lobbies.
Server admins I suggest commenting out 'sv_region' until it's fixed.

 Cheers,
 MUG
