Re: [hlds_linux] Left 4 Dead 2 Dedicated Server Available
Has anyone figured out how to start a server on anything other than coop mode? If I enter map mapname versus in the server console it changes to versus mode but that isn't really good enough for a mass hosting environment. I tried sv_gametypes versus but it still starts as coop. In addition I tried +map mapname versus on command line as well as +map mapname versus with no luck. I am also having an issue with sv_password. Whenever it is set it breaks server queries and it doesn't seem to do anything anyway. Re: [hlds_linux] Left 4 Dead 2 Dedicated Server Available
JR The Left 4 Dead 2 Dedicated Server files are now available on JR Steam. Use the game name left4dead2 from hldsupdatetool to JR download them. These are not the final set of files, so there JR will be another small update before the game is released. Queries wont work with sv_password set - as in l4d1 ... also, there seems to be a problem with setting maxplayers - its always set to 18, and queries report randomly 4 or 8 on same configs, different servers. ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux

There have always been problems using sv_password with L4D. Also, I don't think maxplayers is honored since the max number of players is set based on the game type selected in the lobby. - Dave Tomasz Formanowski wrote: JR The Left 4 Dead 2 Dedicated Server files are now available on JR Steam. Re: [hlds_linux] Left 4 Dead 2 Dedicated Server Available
Start the game and create a lobby. While you are in your lobby, open the console (usually the ~ key if you started the game with the -console option). In the console, enter: mm_dedicated_force_servers IP:PORT Where IP is the IP address of your server and PORT is the listening port (usually 27015). Start the game and it should connect to your server. - Dave Shlomi Turjeman wrote: can you explain again? how I can make a lobby for my server? When i played co-op, i could use the sv_search_key string that worked like a charm, however it did not for versus mode. Versus mode works fine when you use the mm_dedicated line. But still, i would have though valve would add a option that people in the same group as the server should have a option to reserve one that is emtpy, go in the lobby and use that server. I cant imagine that normal regular players know anything about sv_search_key or the mm_dedicated line. There is just no easy way to let people of your group use the server from the lobby. It's a messy system that certainly needs to be fixed, but it's probably low on Valve's list of priorities. That said, you don't have to get people in your lobby to put in the mm_dedicated_force_servers stuff. Only the lobby leader needs to have that option set. - Dave Eric Riemers wrote: When i played co-op, i could use the sv_search_key string that worked like a charm, however it did not for versus mode. I wish there were an easier way to do this for the end user, in particular steamgroup members who want to use the lobby system and a steamgroup server. THIS. Shouldn't need to much about with search keys and mm_force_dedicated, if lobby leaders could specify a steam group things would be sooo much more user-friendly Only issue would be if, between starting the lobby and starting to look for a server, the last unreserved server for that steamgroup got taken - in which case, it would make sense to punt the people back to the lobby so the leader can select another steam group / set search key / go with j.random server Alternatively, if valve want us to use search_key, can THAT be added to the UI? I firmly believe the lobby system (you assemble your friends before going on-server, and have control over gametype/campaign) makes sense for the low-player-count, long-gameplay-session l4d games, as opposed to the traditional drop-in-for-20-mins-then-leave-again server browser system of more traditional multiplayer FPS games, but better ways for lobby leaders to be able to select known-good dedicated servers from the UI need to be added ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux
Re: [hlds_linux] L4D2 1 fork crashes the server
the srcds_run script doesn't seem to like -fork 1, but there's no reason it shouldn't work if not for the script. -fork 1 should be fine, and there are advantages to -fork 1 over not forking at all. -Original Message- From: hlds_linux-boun...@list.valvesoftware.com [mailto:hlds_linux-boun...@list.valvesoftware.com] On Behalf Of f7 f0rkz Sent: Tuesday, November 17, 2009 3:31 PM To: Half-Life dedicated Linux server mailing list Subject: Re: [hlds_linux] L4D2 1 fork crashes the server Yeah, i figured as much. Anyone else notice that Valve removed the 3rd party hosting provided by.. banner when you view the scoreboard? I still get my MOTD and the banner on connect, and for a few seconds at the top right of the game when the level starts it displays the banner, but it's no longer on the scoreboard page. Re: [hlds_linux] L4D2 + NAT
Steam/VAC does it's thing and rejects validation. I've given up on it for the mean time. The reason it confuses me is people can host local servers (via the windows client) using a modified AppID and it seems to work fine. Re: [hlds_linux] L4D2 + NAT
Also, with further testing, if I force the server to lan (sv_lan 1 on startup) this issue is gone altogether, which leads me to believe that L4D2 is still not playing nicely with NAT lans.
