Re: [hlds_linux] HLDS Masterserver Problems

2009-12-30 Thread Andy Wallace
Try running the update on the server manually.
I have this error message sometimes and it's because the -autoupdate part of
the startup script can't do the update for some reason.  To get round it, break
out of the server and step one directory back (cd ..) then type:

./steam -command update -game gamename here -dir .
(minus the quotes)

Once completed, go back intot he folder and run the server startup. You should
have more joy with that approach.

If it still fails to start the server or update, try going to the .steam
folder (linux,) delete ClientRegistry.blob  and run the update again.

We run a TF2 server and these methods always get us back online.

Hope this helps :)

Why is there no word from Valve to this:
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1055641

I am having the exact same Problem, if i remove the masterserver
72.165.61.189:27010 i wont be getting the (faulty) restart notice but
the server will also not show up in hlsw and other tools.
It seems like the other Masterserver (68.142.72.250:27010) wich is addet
wont do anything at all.

regards.

This sadly does not fix the Problem for good, ive disabled autoupdate on
all our servers, still some get the MasterServer restart request .. for
whatever unknown reason.
Cant be to hard to fix but valve seems to ignore the problem since
the original post on the steam forum is quite dated.

If you disable the autoupdate, it will not restart your server, you can
ignore it, it works fine.

My bad, reading comprehension ftw. There are other hl1 master servers,
though - 69.28.151.162, for instance. If the issue is bad master
servers, there should be others to use. If servers are being
auto-assigned a dead server, that's certainly a problem.
