[Apologies if I've left anyone out -- it's the middle of the night and

i found a new and unused internal cd-burner so pulled it out of its
host cabinet, slapped it into an el-cheapo casing, and plugged it to
the external usb port of my existing pc. it worked great after some
token troubleshoot overtures! i managed to burn some test cds. i used
knoppix3.6 installed to my hardisk. this was a couple of months ago
and your email has reminded me of this experiment. must dig up that
cdburner, (misplaced? buried in a heap of things somewhere? borrowed
by someone?) and try it again

I used an Iomega external usb cd writer with K3b on knoppix 3.6 till
a month ago .
it worked fine without any trouble shooting as K3b recognizeed it immediately.
i burned(Copied) lots of CD's and faced no problems .
K3b is a great software.

Basically for the convenience factor. If I can pay Rs. 50 and get a
CD from a stall in front of me I'd rather do that than find a web
page, fill out forms and wait 3 weeks for the CD to arrive.

You do have a point, but CD sales at seminars are more impulse and
immediate requirement sales than anything else. If you have a Linux
strategy planned you'd already have your CDs.

I have been using the dvd/cdwriter that came with my laptop,
successfully with Mandrake and SuSE . It doesnt say who made it, just
has the standard Dell markings. But since the laptop is made my Samsung
and the cd writer says made in Korea, i would think thats a Samsung too.
I get the normal rated speed of 24x when writing CDs with k3b.
