Alt T for tools, O for option, Shist Control tab once to get to the advance 
page.
If you wish to get fomiliar with what's there, you can arrow down through 
the lists of items there. If you want to get there quickly, press M until 
you hear multimedia open.

Enable automatic image resizing-OFF

Play animations in webpages-OFF*

Play sounds in webpages-OFF
4 of 7
Show image download placeholders-OFF

Show pictures-OFF

However, I don't recommend turning off play sound on web pages.

Judy, I normally use IE for M.facebook, but I tried it with chrome and I 
find what IE shows as link, chrome shows as button.

You are correct, no events button I see there.
Also, I find some sites with radio buttons, check boxes and combo chrome has 
lots of work to do for accessibility.


On another note, because no one with sight is using my computer, I turn off 
allot of the feature in internet explorer, like play annymation and show 
picture and the other stuff that would take time to load.

I always used to have "show pictures" off, but I discovered that if you 
print out something that has a bar code or QR code on it, the code will not 
print out. This cost me some money at a restaurant when I printed out an 
online coupon, only to find out that the restaurant wouldn't honor it 
because the coupon code didn't print out. When i turned "show Pictures" back 
on, the codes printed out again.

Hi Adrian, in firefox, alt T, O for option.
Here is the trick. Turn off vertual cursor, and you can down arrow through the 
list. Security is about the 6th or 7th item down.

through the Firefox file menus, the right-click menu and anything else that 
comes to mind, but the security tab eludes me. I remember how I used to find it

I went into the security tab and unchecked the remember passwords and now 
firefox no longer asks if I wanna save passwords

but I found an article that said alt+y is yes I want to save the password

When you shift-tab back once, you'll be in a list of attachments. To open one, 
press enter. In my experience, if there are two, it's the second that you want. 
If there are more than two, after opening the second, you'll need to return to 
the attachments field to open the others, one by one.

If this doesn't work, please post again. It may be you have embedded 
attachments, which is another process.

Usually this happens with an extension or something with firefox itself.
 I've been on youtube a little bit and no issues.  I would try a reboot
to see if its a memory thing.   Are you running the latest firefox, and
how many tabs are open?  Could be a memory issue if there are a lot of tabs
open.

Usually this happens with an extension or something with firefox itself.
 I've been on youtube a little bit and no issues.  I would try a reboot
to see if its a memory thing.   Are you running the latest firefox, and
how many tabs are open?  Could be a memory issue if there are a lot of tabs
open.

to do with this new windows0 overlay, which now appears in the Windows 
list dialog invoked by insert f10, and which in turn seems to have 
something to do with JAWS.  This windows0 overlay thing just started 
with one of the newest updates to JAWS 18.

As a long-time Windoweyes user I've used the previous version of Eset Nod-32
as my virus checker. Some programs didn't work well with WE. As a new JAWS
user, I'm asking what virus checkers work best with JaWS?

Hi. I'm using the latest version of JAWS and am unable to open attachments
in Outlook 2010. How do I do it?

When I'm in the message body and shift-tab back, I hear "message", then if I
do it again I get to the subject, etc. What's the secret to opening
attachments when in Outlook 2010?

Hi,

JAWS also has its various schemes for proofing etc. Whilst in a Word
document, hit JawsKey, Alt and S. Arrow up and down a list of options and
hit Enter on the one you want. There are plenty here for various levels of
proofing information.

Hi Dennis, open internet explorer.
Alt T for tools, O for option, Shist Control tab once to get to the advance 
page.
If you wish to get fomiliar with what's there, you can arrow down through 
the lists of items there. If you want to get there quickly, press M until 
you hear multimedia open.

I have the following turn off:
Enable automatic image resizing-OFF
2 of 7
Play animations in webpages-OFF*
3 of 7
Play sounds in webpages-OFF
4 of 7
Show image download placeholders-OFF
5 of 7
Show pictures-OFF
6 of 7
Smart image dithering-OFF
7 of 7
However, I don't recommend turning off play sound on web pages.

find what IE shows as link, chrome shows as button.
You are correct, no events button I see there.
Also, I find some sites with radio buttons, check boxes and combo chrome has
lots of work to do for accessibility.

On another note, because no one with sight is using my computer, I turn off
allot of the feature in internet explorer, like play annymation and show
picture and the other stuff that would take time to load.

Here is the trick. Turn off vertual cursor, and you can down arrow through 
the list. Security is about the 6th or 7th item down.

I went into the security tab and unchecked the remember passwords and now 
firefox no longer asks if I wanna save passwords


but I found an article that said alt+y is yes I want to save the password

Hi David,

Maybe IE can be used now, but all I can say is that when I, & many others 
tried using IE11 several months ago, it wouldn't work.  What I don't recall 
is if this was only when trying to use POP3.  Hopefully they have gotten 
their sign up process straightened out so any browser can be used now. 
Several months ago, it was that damn I'm not a robot checkbox that would 
throw IE11 for a loop, & you had to use Firefox.  Thanks for checking it out 
& letting the list know.

Note:  These steps were done using Windows 7, Firefox Portable 50.0.2, &
Jaws 16.  The download link for Firefox 50.0.2 installed & portable versions

Also, the default homepage in Firefox is Yahoo, & this homepage will cause
you problems when you try to play the audio challenge, so to get around this

I switched the homepage to, Google, & after doing this I was able to
complete the steps below.  I had several failed attempts until I changed the

homepage.

1. For best results you need to use Firefox.  While in Firefox go to,

https://www.gmx.com/mail/webmail/

navigate to the Sign-up link & press enter.

2. Arrow down to the edit fields, & press enter to open.  From here on you
don't want to close the edit fields, so just tab from field to field filling

in the needed info.  You'll enter your 1st & last names, & when you tab to a

combobox, arrow to the correct answer, & then tab to the next 1.

3. The last combobox is for selecting your security question.  Arrow down to

the question you want, tab 1 time to the answer edit field, & enter your
answer.  Now, with edit  / forms still on, press, Insert / Jaws key + Z, to
turn off the virtual cursor.

4. Tab to the, I'm not a robot checkbox, & spacebar that, & the window will
change.

5. Now while still in edit mode tab to the get an audio challenge button,
press the spacebar, tab to the, play button, press the spacebar, & be ready
to type the numbers you hear.  After typing the numbers you've heard tab to
the activate my account button, or a button called something of this nature,

& press enter.  If everything works out correctly you should get a welcome
message / screen smoozing you on the back for creating a GMX email account.

I can't swear the above steps are going to work for everyone, but I can only

tell y'all what worked for me.  If anyone can make corrections, or improve
the way they're layed out go for it.

Hi All!

Every time JAWS starts, I get the following announcement right after 
JAWS announces itself.


"A running program isn't compatible with certain visual elements of 
Windows. Click here for more information. Tool tip."


How do I access the tool tip to get more information?

I am running 32 bit Windows 7 Home and JAWS 18. Both are fully updated 
with the latest patches or updates available from Microsoft and VFO.

Hi Terry, bring up the JAWS context menu by:
insert J if you have jaws running from system tray; or alt tab to the jaws 
window and press alt.

Then option, voices submenu.
and it's there where you have the option of changing voice etc.
You can also creat a special profile with all the punctuation, and when you 
want to proff read document, you can just load it.

When you first enter a username/password combo into a website, Firefox will
ask you if you want Firefox to remember it for that site.
Go to the address bar with alt+d
tab past the search box.
Tab past the tab name.
The next three tab strokes should give you the options for dealing with
Firefox's memory of your credentials: remember, never for this site, and not
now. Or you could press the appropriate keystroke without tabbing: alt+r,
alt+e, and alt+n, if I remember correctly.

Another thing you can do is to go into Control Pannel.  In the search field
write the word Default.  Then tab over and click on Default Programs.  Then
tab to click on Choose Defaults.  In a few seconds you will see a list of
all your programs.  Hit the letter of the program you want to set as
default.  Tab to where it says to set that program as default and enter.

you need to open a context menu on the file. then instead of clicking on
open, use open with. then it should show a list of the most common programs
to use that might be installed on your computer. if its there arrow to it
then tabb to the checkbox that says something like always use this program
as  the default. 
then from then on the program you checked will open the file you assigned to
that file type.

if the program type is not in the list you would have to choose for a
unknown type and search for the executable program you want to add it to the
list of programs then choose it from the list and make it is checked where
it says always use this as the default program. click on ok to close the
dialog. from then on the program you chose to be the default program will
open the file from then on.

Hi Tj,

It's not, BMX, it's GMX.com.  Below are the steps I used.

Note:  These steps were done using Windows 7, Firefox Portable 50.0.2, & 
Jaws 16.  The download link for Firefox 50.0.2 installed & portable versions 
is:

Also, the default homepage in Firefox is Yahoo, & this homepage will cause 
you problems when you try to play the audio challenge, so to get around this 
I switched the homepage to, Google, & after doing this I was able to 
complete the steps below.  I had several failed attempts until I changed the 
homepage.

1. For best results you need to use Firefox.  While in Firefox go to,

https://www.gmx.com/mail/webmail/

navigate to the Sign-up link & press enter.

2. Arrow down to the edit fields, & press enter to open.  From here on you 
don't want to close the edit fields, so just tab from field to field filling 
in the needed info.  You'll enter your 1st & last names, & when you tab to a 
combobox, arrow to the correct answer, & then tab to the next 1.

3. The last combobox is for selecting your security question.  Arrow down to 
the question you want, tab 1 time to the answer edit field, & enter your 
answer.  Now, with edit  / forms still on, press, Insert / Jaws key + Z, to 
turn off the virtual cursor.

4. Tab to the, I'm not a robot checkbox, & spacebar that, & the window will 
change.

5. Now while still in edit mode tab to the get an audio challenge button, 
press the spacebar, tab to the, play button, press the spacebar, & be ready 
to type the numbers you hear.  After typing the numbers you've heard tab to 
the activate my account button, or a button called something of this nature, 
& press enter.  If everything works out correctly you should get a welcome 
message / screen smoozing you on the back for creating a GMX email account.

I can't swear the above steps are going to work for everyone, but I can only 
tell y'all what worked for me.  If anyone can make corrections, or improve 
the way they're layed out go for it.

you need to open a context menu on the file. then instead of clicking on open, 
use open with. then it should show a list of the most common programs to use 
that might be installed on your computer. if its there arrow to it then tabb to 
the checkbox that says something like always use this program as  the default. 
then from then on the program you checked will open the file you assigned to 
that file type.

if the program type is not in the list you would have to choose for a unknown 
type and search for the executable program you want to add it to the list of 
programs then choose it from the list and make it is checked where it says 
always use this as the default program. click on ok to close the dialog. from 
then on the program you chose to be the default program will open the file from 
then on.

I am running Windows 10 Anniversary Edition.  I just tried switching to 
Eliquence and I get the same thing.  It seems to be only characters it reads 
words just fine with both syncs.

I am using vocalizer Tom and have set it both from the settings manager for
default and from using the insert _ 2 keys to cycle through the options.  In
doing some futher testing I find that if I set it to characters I get
nothing when I type, if I set it to characters and words I do not get
characters but do get words, and if I set it to words only I get the words
when I hit space.  It appears that only the character settings are not
working for some reason, sounds kind of strange.

through the Firefox file menus, the right-click menu and anything else that 
comes to mind, but the security tab eludes me. I remember how I used to find it

Yes, it's supposed to be the default, but it wasn't in my folders list. 
However, a couple of us posted yesterday how to create or bring this folder 
into the folders list.

Is there a key command when you are in your  inbox, and you have a lot of

I keep a lot of emails that I have already read.

I do the same here in outlook 2010, and if I wish to keep a message, a simple 
press of the escape key puts me back where I need to be to go through the rest 
of my inbox.

When reading my messages in outlook 2010, I open the first message and it reads 
the E-mail.  To close this message and delete the message, I do control key 
plus letter D to delete the message and open the next E mail which is read from 
top to bottom without headers.
Again, you do the control delete while in an open message.

This is what I need to do, hit control home and then Jaws down arrow.
Why is this, this is not acceptable.
This behavior does not happen in Windows 10 mail, messages are read in their 
entirety when opening an  email.

When you first enter a username/password combo into a website, Firefox will ask 
you if you want Firefox to remember it for that site.
Go to the address bar with alt+d
tab past the search box.
Tab past the tab name.
The next three tab strokes should give you the options for dealing with 
Firefox's memory of your credentials: remember, never for this site, and not 
now. Or you could press the appropriate keystroke without tabbing: alt+r, 
alt+e, and alt+n, if I remember correctly.

You told us you can't right click on your laptop. Is there a reason why you 
can't set up a Jaws right click keyboard command? Then you could "copy target 
location" or how ever your email client phrases to copy the link location to 
the clipboard. Then you could paste it into a text file and open it whenever 
you need to.

Jared and all:

I currently am using Firefox version 52.032.

I typically only have one, or maybe two tabs open at the most when using the
browser.

As another interesting note, I used to have Firefox set to automatically
update, but apparently that doesn't work any more, since I believe the
latest version of Firefox is version 53.

Does anyone know how I can get the automatic updates started again?

Perhaps a newer version of Firefox will solve the frequent crashing problem,
although I worry how well it will work with Jaws 18 and Windows 7 here.

This is happening to me also, to a degree that is becoming much less
acceptable.

And, it is the reason that I am seriously considering dropping Firefox, and
moving to Chrome as my main internet browser.

Obviously, the latest versions of Firefox are becoming less and less stable,
which to me represents a significant backward step.

I just don't have the desire or inclination to deal with these sorts of
issues, which seem to relate to software design flaws more than anything
else.

By default, JAWS is set to read the message headders and announce the links 
count as well as read messages automatically. I have made the following 
changes that work for me. I opened a message and then pressed Insert+V for 
quick settings. The first item in the tree view is General mail settings. 
The reading of headders, the links count, and message automatic reading are 
controled here. I unchecked the first 2 boxes and left the third one 
checked. Thus, I have messages reading automatically without the other 
verbage. Even if the message should start reading below the top, at least, 
all I need to do is  press Control+Home. I have only made these changes 
recently, so I'm still experimenting a bit.

I tab to show saved passwords , but I can't have the list displayed.

Usually this happens with an extension or something with firefox itself.
 I've been on youtube a little bit and no issues.  I would try a reboot
to see if its a memory thing.   Are you running the latest firefox, and
how many tabs are open?  Could be a memory issue if there are a lot of
tabs open.
