Re: [JAWS-Users] clickable

2017-07-08 Thread Mike B.
Hi Kevin & Net bat,

Below are 2 different ways of stopping the, Clickable, element from being
reported by Jaws:
how to make JAWS ignore only the announcement of "clickable" without
affecting the other elements is to:

browse to a website that has occurrences of "clickable".
start settings center.
find and expand, speech and sounds schemes.
down arrow to and activate modify schemes.
Tab to, Edit scheme, & press the spacebar.
control+tab to html tab.
tab and down arrow to on click speak.
tab and down arrow to ignore.
tab to and activate ok.
at this point, the modified scheme needs to be saved and chosen to when
the browser is used.

From: Carlos via BlindTech
In
"Settings Center"
under the
"Web / HTML / PDFs"
category, there is a subcategory labeled
"Miscellaneous"
Under
"Miscellaneous"
there is a setting labeled
"Indicate Element Attribute"
Unchecking this setting will stop Jaws from saying
"Clickable"
Although I would not recommend this since there are times when you will miss
out on elements of webpages that may be useful and are clickable.

Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers!

It is a type of link or button, with OnClickHandler event, therefore
JAWS does not recognize as link, but if you click on it, the action is
performed.
For example, if JAWS says: Download clickable, pressing enter or space
starts the download, sometimes it does not work well in ff though, and
focus is moved elsewhere.
use "slash" to move to the next click item, and ctrl+JAWSKey+/ to make
a list of them.

Hi Patti,

Navigate to the sheet you want to delete. Use the Insert+Shift+s command to
open a context menu with various things that you can do to the sheet. Arrow
down to Delete. I think a submenu opens and you arrow to sheet. You will
find yourself in one of your other sheets when done deleting.

Re: [JAWS-Users] excel sheet

2017-07-08 Thread Jim Pursley

You'll need to use the ribbon menus to delete a sheet.

Hit the alt key and arrow down the Home menu to cells submenu. Arrow to
delete cells. press enter and you'll find a split button menu. . Hit
it and arrow to delete sheet. make sure that the sheet you want to
delete is the one you're on and hit delete and zap, it will be gone.

I forgot this routine (it's not exactly obvious) but did a goodle search
for Excel 2010,delete worksheet and the second answer was a bingo (from
Microsoft no less).

I tried it and deleted sheet 3 of 3.
The context menu's delete function is for rows or columns (you can get
there alternatively by using the hot key combo Alt E,d and then 4
options will pop up - the same 4 as in the context key).

Re: [JAWS-Users] How to indent the paragraph in MS word 2007?

2017-07-08 Thread Adrian Spratt
HI, Fernando.

In the US English version of MS Word, control-f is the find command and
control-h the "search and replace" command.

Control-m, which I believe is the US English counterpart of your Spanish
control-f, indents at the left side. However, it doesn't allow for the specific
increments that the paragraph dialog makes possible.

Reference to a "hanging" indent may be confusing here. I don't believe it's
what Mohib is looking for.

I know of no keystroke for moving a document's right margin farther in other
than the paragraph dialog I described earlier.

Nice explanation of how the tab key works, or doesn't work, here.

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] How to indent the paragraph in MS word 2007?

Hi Mohib,

At least in Spanish, there are keystrokes for hanging the text in two different
preset ways, specifically CTRL+F and CTRL+H. I say at least in Spanish, because
unlike in other languages Microsoft localized a lot of the keyboard shortcuts
in Office Spanish versions, and may not be the same in English.
To know exactly what keystrokes are used in English for this, taking advantage
of the fact that JAWS provides feedback when pressing these commands, I suggest
you to check in the Word JAWS key map file with the JAWS Keyboard Manager
(press INSERT+8 witting Word) what keystrokes are assigned to the scripts
Indent and HangingIndent. You can also see Word keyboard shortcuts help topic
that is probably even more accurate than in Spanish, but this will take you
more time.

Regarding the use of TAB, it is normal that the text disappears if selected
when you press that key, because in edit areas outside dialog boxes it is often
treated as any other character. You should instead place at the top of the
paragraphs or lines you want to indent before pressing TAB.

Another thing you can do is to press the Increase Indent button in the
Paragraph group on the Home tab. This command has no hot key by default, but
you can either add the command to the Quick Access Toolbar or assign a keyboard
shortcut to it. If you add it to the Quick Access Toolbar, you will be able to
quickly activate it by pressing ALT plus the number this item is in the Quick
Access Toolbar, provided that it is in a position minor than 10.

Annette,
Very cool key combo.
Several times a year I am designing a workbook template with multiple sheets.
In the past I have always had to use my little & diminishing vision to Select
All the sheets.
I was wondering how I would Select All with no vision. Now I know.
Thanks,

[JAWS-Users] information about BARD

2017-07-08 Thread Annette Carr
Hi all,

I received this information in another email from another list. Just in case
some of you have not received this information yet, I am posting it below.

To:

this coming Sunday, July 9th. There will be no change to the URL for the
homepage. Your bookmarks to the longstanding NLS URL for the homepage will
still function correctly and take you to the new site. The longstanding URL
for BARD login will also remain exactly the same. No changes have been made to
BARD or the NLS catalog. The site has also undergone repeated accessibility
and screen reader testing here at NLS and out in the field.

Please be aware of the following issues and activities during the switchover
period of three days, from Sunday the 9th through Tuesday the 11th.

1. The old website-the one we're all familiar with-will continue to exist
through October (at least) and our patrons can continue to use it while they
gradually become familiar with the new site.

Its URL, however, will change: the old site will no longer be at
www.loc.gov/nls
, but rather at www.loc.gov/nlsold

. There will be a prominent link on the homepage of
the new website-on the left-hand side, under the box of "Quick Links"-so that
patrons can jump back to the homepage of the old website if they wish to.

If they are on the old site, there will be an equally prominent link so they
can jump to the new site.

2. On the new website, the "Search" field at the right top edge will be
optimized only once the switch of URLs is made on Sunday and Monday. For that
reason, it may be a couple days before it is fully functioning. Patrons can
use built-in navigation on the new site to find what they are looking for
during this brief period. We appreciate your patience during the time required
for the "Search" to become fully optimized for searching the new site.

3. During the same three-day period, for the most visited areas of our
website, we will be embedding new internal URLs and redirected URLs so that
patrons can easily find what they are looking for. Again, we appreciate your
patience as this process is completed.

4. We will be grateful for your feedback about any issues you encounter, or
suggestions you can make. Please send them to d...@loc.gov
  and
ms...@loc.gov
. We will log and prioritize those changes we cannot
make immediately so that we can iterate on them continuously in the weeks to
come.

[JAWS-Users] Reading Combo Boxes

2017-07-08 Thread Tom Fairhurst
I am using JAWS 18 with Windows 7 64-bit Pro and IE 11. As I was filling out
the form for a Microsoft account, I had to select my birthdate: date, month,
and year. These selections are in list boxes. The down and up arrow keys read
nothing. I could not read these unless I tabbed out and back into them. The
read line key read nothing. Pressing Alt-Down Arrow didn’t change anything.
Pressing the right and left arrow keys moved me to the next field on the page.
I was able to fill out the form but I had to tab in and out of the fields
several times to make sure I had chosen correctly. Any help would be
appreciated.

Nancy, I am using Outlook 2003, but this is what I do to read a message.
Instead of hitting the enter key, I use the tab and it opens up the message
and reads it. Give that a try. Judy & Libby

Nancy,

Let me begin by assuring you that you shouldn't be having this problem with
Outlook. I've used Outlook 2003 in the distant past, and now I have 2010. I
have some vague memory of being unable to read the message field with JAWS,
but I can't remember for sure, never mind how I fixed it. One thing to check
is whether the message is maximized. With a message open, press alt-space,
release, then x. See if that helps.

If it doesn't, I hope someone else chimes in with suggestions. Everything
else that comes to my mind is pretty basic and annoying.

Hi List,

I'm relatively new to JAWS after using Window-Eyes for years. I'm using the
latest Jaws 18 on a Windows 7 system running Outlook 2007.

When I press enter on the email message, JAWS automatically reads the
sender, subject etc. but then stops and never reads the message. The
"automatically read message" box is checked in settings.

The thing is that it won't read even with the arrow keys. It stays silent.
The "read line" command just says "blank" and the dedicated arrow keys and
the numpad arrow keys do/say nothing.

If I switch to the JAWS cursor, I first hear the subject then what must be a
menu because it says outlook adins, find etc. and if I keep going I hear all
the message headers and finally the message. But as soon as I switch back
to the PC cursor, I get nothing.

BTW - it still works correctly with Window-Eyes. I didn't try NVDA.

Any help would be appreciated.

Nancy

Good job, Judy for figuring that out!
I will get on Chrome right now, and find out why it is not showing the
events link with the m.facebook.com mobile Facebook site. That is one web
site that is better to use in IE. I use Chrome for most sites, but
sometimes, you still need IE for a few. The One Drive site works a bit
better in IE as well. However, most sites work much better in Chrome. I will
check out what you described and get back very soon!

My settings showed up on an internet page, but you then click on Advanced
heading which will expand. Content is one of the headings you click on and
it will expand. Under Flash, my system was set to Ask First, but I changed
it to Allow from there.

I do wish there were a way to show the Events link on my m.facebook.com site

Re: [JAWS-Users] How to indent the paragraph in MS word 2007?

2017-07-08 Thread Adrian Spratt
Hi, Mohib. Let me state what I think you're trying to accomplish and then give
you my suggestion. I believe you wish to set off a block of text by indenting
both left and right margins. When I do this, I also go from double-space to
single-space. You can find all these options in MS Word's paragraph dialog.
Note that although it's in the paragraph dialog, you can select as much text as
you like.

Keep in mind that I'm using Word 2010, but I think this will also work in 2007.

First, select the text. For this purpose, I place a symbol at the end, such as
a * or @. Then I go back to the beginning, press F8, then that symbol. Now the
entire block is selected.

Now press the applications key.

Then the letter p.

Now tab through all the options in this dialog. You'll find the first item
allows you to set the margin. I arrow up from 0 to 0.5.

Tab once more to the right margin setting. Once again, I arrow up from 0 to
0.5. This brings the right margin in by half an inch.

If you also want to single-space, continue tabbing until the spacing options
appear. I up-arrow to single.

>From there, I tab five times to the Okay button and press spacebar.

I hope these steps are clear and that they answer your question.

Re: [JAWS-Users] How to indent the paragraph in MS word 2007?

2017-07-08 Thread Justin Williams
Select the part you want, then use control 2 for double line.
As far as indenting a selected portion, just select what you want to
indent, then use the tab key. It will indent anything you select. If you
want to indent just the first line of the paragraph, put your cursor on the
letter, then hit tab. To select a whole paragraph, use the f8 key and keep
pressing it until you hear paragraph select. You can also use shift control
down arrow to select the paragraph your cursor is on.
Anything you select will be indented if you hit tab, so if you want to
indent a portion, then select it and then hit tab.
When I want a portion of a document selected, I find the beginning of it,
then hit control plus windows plus key, which marks that area in the
document. Then I go to the end of the selection, the place where I'd like to
select to, then hit insert spacebar, then the letter m. That selects
everything the mark you made to that point, then I do whatever I want with
it. For you, you'll indent it. but perform any function you want from
there. You can just hit tab to indent that portion of the text.

Hi Justin,

It has been a while since I used Word2007, but you can try this.

If you are only trying to indent the first line of the paragraph, place your
cursor on the first letter of the first line and press tab.

If you are wanting to indent the entire paragraph from the left margin, you
will need to use something like the hanging paragraph setting, or something
like that. I cannot remember if using this if the right edge of that
indented paragraph will be indented to the left of the right margin.

Good Luck!
Annette

All in all, I do like Chrome better even though I am used to IE.

I do wish there were a way to show the Events link on my m.facebook.com site
though.

My Chrome was working with gameday audio, but now it doesn't and I give up
on getting it to work again. I can't tell is flash is allowed or not. I
may call mlb but internet explorer is working fine.

Re: [JAWS-Users] How to use Microsoft Speech Platform voices with jaws?

2017-07-08 Thread Fernando Gregoire
As far as I know, there's no specific JAWS synth driver for Microsoft Speech
Platform. This is not however a problem, because since Windows 8.1 the standard
SAPI 5 Microsoft voices are the ones used in Speech Platform. Moreover, in
Windows 10 you can download not only full language packs, but only speech
packages (including TTS and ASR) for the language(s) you choose, even when you
don't want to install these languages as display languages, that is, languages
in which you and/or other users can choose to display Windows user interface.
