Re: [JAWS-Users] Connectivity to server Outlook 2016
Good advice, nothing to worry about unless it persists; from time to time, for diverse reasons, Outlook is not able to connect to a mail servier when trying to send and receive, something it normally does when opened and periodically thereafter. POP3 is Post Office Protocol, wherein you actually download your messages from the server to your computer. IMAP is newer, in it you download only the headers, your message remains at the server. SMTP or Simple Mail Transfer Protocol is what sends your messages out to your mail server, which in turn forwards to the next server in the chain and so on to however many are necessary until it reaches the recipient's server, where it awaits access by te recipient, either Online, with POP3 or with IMAP. [JAWS-Users] What bit torrent clients do you all use?
Hey everyone. Of course we're discussing clients here and not torrent sites or anything that could be used to spread copyrighted material to the public. Now that that's out of the way: I'm curious to know what clients you all might use? I used to use Utorrent, but when I got it going on the Windows 10 machine I found they'd made some really annoying modifications to it, and I'm not such a fan anymore. I have some suggestions from sighted folks, but it's sometimes beneficial to know what experiences other screen-reader users have had as well. Of course I want something that's easily configurable with private trackers, and where you can easily sort your existant torrents and so on. Any thoughts? Re: [JAWS-Users] update progress with win10?
Hi Adam and everyone, In this case, MS is wrong: up until Version 1703, you'll get a progress bar when downloading and installing all updates. Starting with Version 1709, you'll get status messages for individual updates. Also, JAWS needs to support UIA progress bars and certain events coming from universal apps such as Settings app in order to tell you what's going on. Unfortunately, from time to time, Windows ships with broken UIA implementations, including a case where progress bar values will change along with download/install status text, which is annoying (fixed in 1709 but it also introduced a bug of its own). Speaking of NVDA, I am the one who brought you update status message announcements (ask me offlist if interested). Microsoft Disability Answer Desk is partially correct. The stable (released to the general public) versions of Windows 10 from which the update to version 1709 is downloaded show update progress, but only a general one and not for each update separately, therefore if there are more than one update available you'll be unable to check individually the progress of version 1709. Insider builds (those targetted to techies who want to test Windows beta versions) show progress for each update separately inside the list item of each update; you can see this info with JAWS by using the Touch Cursor with Advanced Object Navigation enabled. In any case, unlike NVDA and Windows Narrator, JAWS is currently unable to report the progress automatically as it does in traditional (remember that Settings is actually an Universal Windows Platform (UWP) app), so if using JAWS you need to check the progress manually, even when Progress Bar Announcement in JAWS is turned on. Another alternative is to use the Media Creation Tool to download an ISO file for the language and architecture you want and then mount and install the ISO manually. Since the Media Creation Tool is a desktop app, JAWS will read the download progress correctly. In the installation program the percentage is said in text instead of a progress bar; no screen reader can therefore report the change, but you can press INSERT+B or use JAWS/Invisible Cursor even if you don't have JAWS 2018. Re: [JAWS-Users] update progress with win10?
Hi Adrian, While before the latest update released on October 27 only Windows 10 beta versions displayed progress for each update separately and this was similar to Windows 7, the way used to get that information on W7 is not applicable to Windows 10 for a couple of reasons: 1. Windows 10 have neither the update progress icon on the System Tray or the Open Windows Update option in the Action Center context menu. 2. In Windows 10 the Windows Update functionality is witting the Settings app, which is an “Universal” app. Therefore, you can't use JAWS Cursor to review information. 3. In addition to the need of using Touch Cursor to get to the update progress information, for some kind of bug, unlike NVDA and even the Windows Narrator, JAWS does not read the progress information automatically as it changes, even when Progress Bar Announcement option is turned on. 4. Although this is not a percentage, in Windows 10, unlike 7, you never know which update related to the total is being downloaded or installed. As you know, Windows 7 display strings like “Downloading Name of the Update (update 2 of 9);” those strings, however, are not present in Windows 10. 2017-10-20 10:05 GMT-03:00 Adrian Spratt: > Adam, > I'm using windows 7, and I can confirm that a Windows Update is > downloading and even get some information on progress, although if more > than one update is involved, the percentage indication is limited to each > item, not the whole set of downloads. > In Win7, I do the following: > JAWS key+F11 for the system tray. > Arrow down to something like "Update is ready" and press enter. Well, the jaws update from last week doesn't work now. As of a couple days ago, there was another office 2016 update which broke the autocomplete again. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of TheHangMan Sent: Thursday, October 19, 2017 10:26 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] autocomplete Hi, If, you read the mail from Eric Damrey from Freedom a week a go, there was a new jaws update to install over the jaws 18 version ending in .4321, this would fix the auto complete problem, Jorge -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Bob Hicks Sent: Thursday, October 19, 2017 8:47 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] autocomplete No, I have not. Re: [JAWS-Users] Mac Versus PC's
This is true, and so long as the conversation sticks to running windows using boot camp that is fine. How ever these messages tend to stray a bit and that is the issue. -Original Message- From: Andy Baracco Sent: Thursday, October 19, 2017 3:17 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Mac Virsus PC's Sure! he's running Windows and MAC OS on that system. Apple provides a utility called Boot Camp that makes this possible. in that situation, you can run JAWS or any other screen reader or any other Windows program when you boot into Windows. Like Rick said, let this thread pass beyond the cloud in to oblivion. -Original Message- From: Jason White Sent: Thursday, October 19, 2017 7:45 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Mac Virsus PC's Yes, although I haven't tried it - I don't run Microsoft Windows on my Mac. There are two approaches. The first is to use BootCamp, which essentially installs Windows alongside Mac OS. While the machine is booting, you can use keystrokes to control which operating system is loaded. The second approach is to install virtualization software (e.g., VirtualBox or VMWare) under Mac OS, then run Windows, JAWS etc. within the virtual environment. This allows you to switch between the two operating systems without having to reboot the machine. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Gerald Levy Sent: Thursday, October 19, 2017 7:27 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Mac Virsus PC's Actually, somebody on another list claims that he is successfully running JAWS on an Apple Mac using a dual boot configuration.
