You're absolutely right, and I should have mentioned that. I almost did,
smile, but I've had mine set on details since the dawn of time and don't
even think about it. If it's not set to details, control-shift-6 will get it
there.
Even if you have file extensions turned off, you can always use search to
find files of a particular type by typing the file extension you want.

I just wanted to add, what you say, Rebecca, about JAWS telling you this

There are a lot of reasons why I think you should always have your computer

The quick answer to revealing file extensions is to press right arrow on the
file your cursor is on and JAWS will tell you the file type--Word document,
text document, etc. I never, with this information, needed to turn on
hidden file extensions.
But if you still want it, with your documents folder open, press alt-f, then
o. Shift-tab once to get to the list of tabs. Right arrow to View and tab
a couple of times to you get to a tree view of a whole list of items you can
check or not. Turning on hidden extensions for known file types is in this
list. Check it and tab to ok.
For creating a new folder, with Documents open, either press alt-2 on the
top row of numbers along the top of your keyboard, or press alt and tab
twice to new folder.

I don't like Cortana either, just like I don't like Bixby on my Galaxy S8

I much prefer Google, and using OK Google to wake it up. In fact, later
there will be a Google update of some sort, coming soon, that will allow one

Hi all. Can anyone tell me how to do this?

I know Cortana is a search engine within Windows 10, but I want to simply
search from the start menu tout it taking over. This morning, I was trying
to do a search for fold options and Cortana kept taking me to the wrong
thing.

If you more advanced JAWS and Windows 10 users think it not prudent to
disable Cortana, what's the best way to reach folder options? I'm having
problems with the download manager Vision Australia's library uses and the
representative believes that various files are hidden. He's advised me to go
to folder options and uncheck the "hide files" option.

Would appreciate any hints at this point since, after a morning of trying to
work through the Windows keyboard commands and being interrupted by phone
calls and visits from my parents and then the grocery delivery, I'm way
behind and am expecting a call from the IT guy in about half an hour.

Thanks.

Cheers!

Re: [JAWS-Users] ZoomText Fusion List

2017-12-20 Thread Mauricio Molina
Hi Pam,

Despite my reduced ability to utilize magnification effectively due to the
progression of my eye condition, RP, this past summer I decided to
transition from JAWS and MAGic to ZoomText Fusion. I rarely use the
magnification portion and use the JAWS part of Fusion almost exclusively. I
made the switch to learn what, if any, the benefits would be compared to
JAWS and MAGic. As far as I can tell, the JAWS component of Fusion is simply
JAWS, so I would like to ask what part of Fusion you might require
assistance with. Of course, I am by no means an expert with the
magnification component of Fusion, but it is worth the asking.

There are many choices. I think Dell sell them already enclosed, with a USB
connection. Or you can purchase a housing and install a CD ROM device of your
choosing. If you plan to burn a CD or DVD, make sure to get one that is a
burner, as well. They are pretty cheap these days, and it’s hard to buy one
that isn’t already also a burner.

Afternoon all.
With most new laptops, there are no CD drives. Are there external CD drives
that plug into your USB port, and are there some that are better than others?
Running JAWS 2018 and Windows 10 on a Dell laptop. Thanks.

I'm find quite a lot is different when I go into the file menu I couldn't find

Hi Miriam,
I have been using MAGic for 4-5 years now and after each upgrade, including
the one this week, I have always had my settings there afterwards.
Just be sure that you have saved your current settings before you let it
update.

To differentiate between the product that was a combination of
ZoomText and Window-Eyes and the one between ZoomText and JAWS, the
new product is simply called Fusion, I believe, and I am not ware of a
list for its discussion. You could create one.
