Re: [JAWS-Users] Australian English voice pack for jaws

2018-02-21 Thread JM Casey
Hi.

What synthesizer are you using currently? Which synth did you download? I
believe Vocalizer Expressive 2.0 will not work with older JAWS version than
17, or maybe 18. So you must pick one of the other synths. You might have to
enable the synth in utilities, synthesizer manager under the JAWS menu, as
well.

Hi everyone,

I hope you are all well, wherever you are.

I use jaws 16 on a laptop computer for work. I just tried down loading the
voice pack for jaws.
I installed it, restarted the pc but jaws is still not announcing any new
voices in the voice settings.

Can anyone tell me what I am not doing, or doing wrong please?

Many thanks, and my apologies, I'm a little bit technologically challenged!

2018-02-21 Thread cheez
I've found, that when asked if you want to save your password, it tells you
to press the spacebar, then press alt plus n.
After doing that, you either press Y or N. That's what I did and do and it
works.
As far as stopping it from asking all the time, I never really checked into
it. Perhaps someone else on this list will know the answer to that.

Hey Wayne.

You should get the Firefox 52 ESR release, if you want to keep using JAWS
with Firefox. ESR stands for "extended support release". It has all the
features of Firefox 52, with the current security updates. Definitely a
better idea than stopping updates. And it will work with JFW, hopefully,
until Freedom Scientific gets their act together and makes their
screen-reader work with Firefox. I only say this because the new version,
version 58, works great with nVDA, and even the landmark first "Quantum"
57

works with that screen-reader as well, though some folks reported issues.

As for the passwords, there is a way to turn this prompt off in settings,
but I can't seem to find it at the moment. Search around and you will
hopefully come across it. When the password prompt appears, you can tab to
"don't save", and the message will disappear. There may be an alt-key
combination for this, but I don't know what it is. Someone on the list
might, or I'll come back here tomorrow when it's not some ridiculous hour.
*grin*

I am finding more and more websites that do not work well or, in some
cases,

at all with IE 11. I have Firefox on my computers but I have stopped
automatic updates because people on this list warned that the more recent
updates are not accessible. I am now getting warnings that there are
security risks in not updating. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Related to Firefox again, when I enter passwords using FF I get this
annoying announcement, "Do you want to have Firefox save this password?"
How do I say no?

basically, I use Newsline to look through the book review section of the New

it would never occur to me to do anything complicated to read material from

That's due to the fact that Freedom Scientific insists on bundling FSReader,
its own daisy reader with its installations.

NFB Newsline, when it detects a Jaws screen-reader in use, won't let you read
daisy files in another program except to use FS Reader.

If you want to use your Outlook program to do it, you'll need to unload Jaws
and use an alternate screen-reader.

Hi All,

Below are the direct download links for the February Jaws update,

Enhancements in JAWS 2018.1802.78 (February 2018)

The following is a list of improvements made in JAWS 2018 between the
December 2017 update and the February 2018 update.

To download the latest release, visit the
Downloads web page.

JAWS
list of 12 items
. When you open an inaccessible PDF file in Adobe Reader which normally just
reports: "Empty Document", JAWS now displays a dialog box asking if you want
to perform OCR directly on the file. Choose Yes to have JAWS recognize the
image and display the text in the Results Viewer or choose No to close the
dialog
box without performing OCR. This is the same as using the layered command
INSERT+SPACEBAR, O, D to OCR a document. We are now proactively offering
this
for all JAWS and Fusion users when we recognize that scanned PDF files have
been opened in Acrobat Reader.
. When you press INSERT+SPACEBAR followed by QUESTION MARK for help with
layered commands, the list of keystrokes is now displayed in the Results
Viewer
to make them easier to review.
. You can now press Right Shift+DOTS 1-2-3-7 from a Focus braille display to
toggle the JAWS Screen Shade feature.
. The commands to read the next or previous word (CTRL+RIGHT ARROW and
CTRL+LEFT ARROW) will now continue to speak when Speech On Demand is active.
Note
that due to the way keystrokes are handled in Microsoft Office applications,
these commands will continue to remain silent in Word documents and when
editing
Outlook messages. In addition, speech is now available in Keyboard Help
(INSERT+1).
. Resolved an issue with the INSERT+B command not reading the contents of
certain dialog boxes if Speech On Demand was enabled.
. If Speech On Demand is active, resolved an issue where pressing
ALT+CTRL+NUM PAD 5 to read the current table cell was not working.
. The Convenient OCR item located in the JAWS Utilities menu has been
renamed to OCR Options.
. Resolved a customer reported issue with the Stock Quotes Research It
lookup source not returning results as expected.
. Addressed an issue with the Convert Currency Research It lookup source in
the Spanish version of JAWS not returning any results.
. When navigating the Outlook calendar in Month view, resolved a customer
reported issue where Vocalizer Expressive voices were saying "comma" before
each
date.
. Resolved sluggishness issues with the Customize Outlook Message List
dialog box accessed from the Run JAWS Manager dialog box (INSERT+F2) while
focused
in an Outlook message folder.
. Addressed JAWS visual highlighting issues in Windows 7 for a custom set of
Office scripts distributed by Papenmeier.

Google Docs and Sheets
list of 2 items
. Improved JAWS performance with Google Docs when Braille support is
disabled. While you will find that JAWS is now more responsive even when
Braille mode
is off, we still recommend that you enable Braille support even if you do
not use a braille display to get the best overall experience with navigating
and editing documents. For instance, moving by character, word, and line is
much more reliable, and you can also use the JAWS table reading commands for
easier navigation of tables. If you need JAWS to announce certain document
features such as footnotes, endnotes, or comments, you will need to turn off
Braille support at this time to access this information. To toggle Braille
support on or off, press ALT+SHIFT+A to open the Accessibility menu, open
the
Settings submenu, and press ENTER on Enable Braille support.
. JAWS now supports Google's new Braille Mode in Google Sheets. When Braille
Mode is enabled in Google Sheets, you will be able to read the current row
of cells on the braille display and press a Cursor Router button over a cell
to move focus to it. The coordinates, cell headers, and cell data are shown
for the current cell, with the content of surrounding cells also displayed
but separated from each other by a | character.

It never occurred to me to do anything except to go to the website and find
the links. I have several publications in My Favorites although I must admit
that basically, I use Newsline to look through the book review section of
the New York Times on Sunday and to look at any important news story in Long
Island's newsday, if I receive an interesting headline in an email from the
paper. But it would never occur to me to do anything complicated to read
material from Newsline. Additionally, I've discovered that sometimes, the
publications they have don't include all of the material that's actually in
the issues or sometimes, only partial articles are there.

That's due to the fact that Freedom Scientific insists on bundling FSReader,
its own daisy reader with its installations.

NFB Newsline, when it detects a Jaws screen-reader in use, won't let you
read daisy files in another program except to use FS Reader.

If you want to use your Outlook program to do it, you'll need to unload Jaws
and use an alternate screen-reader.

[JAWS-Users] Thoughts on LinkedIn

2018-02-21 Thread JM Casey
Hey everyone.

The time has come for me to join this service. Of course, I'll be conducting
my own investigations, starting today. I just wondered if anybody had
thoughts, observations, and so on, about this site "for professional social
networking. Any accessibility, usability, and so on - type concerns I should
beware of? I did look at the site some years ago and remember thinking it
was a bit messy. At the time I figured I really had no need for it. Well,
things have changed, so I'm going to have to get on-board whether I like it
or not.

I took it out for a test drive yesterday and got the following results. It
was easy enough to configure an email account, but that was the only
positive thing I can say about it.

I made sure first to install the latest update to the JAWS scripts posted
last week which turned out to be not very helpful at all.

The fact is until either side starts working toward being more accessible
don’t bother with the program. The thing is it probably wouldn’t take much
to make it work better as it configured my outlook account automatically
which live mail will not do on its’ own.

Hi Adrian,
This is perhaps not what you want, but I just go to their web page and
choose what I wish to read. I've put the newspapers and magazines I read
most often into a Favorites List. When I go to that link, there they all
are. I can choose to read by sections, or read the full paper, which is
what I always do. I just go down by heading or by specific heading level.
I don't use Outlook at all for this. If I find an article or recipe I want
to save, I just copy and paste it into Word.
HTH.

Hi. Will someone who reads NFB Newsline attachments with JAWS give me some
tips on how to do it?

Background. I've just upgraded from Office 2010 to Office 2016. With Office
2010, I made a file association between .XM> files and MS Word in order to
read one of the Newsline attachments. Not ideal, but workable. But this file
association produces nothing readable with Word 2016.

I just re-tried opening the Newsline .OPf attachment with FS Reader 3.0.
This file extension allows me to open files from other sources with FS
Reader; however, still not those from NFB Newsline.

Any ideas?

[JAWS-Users] windows updates seem to be stuck

2018-02-21 Thread anna vimini
I do not have windows defender so that can not be the problem, I have
McAfee live safe but I have seemed to have fixed the problem for now

I am just wondering if I clear the windows update history if that would
work the next time it happens so is there any one on the list that knows
how to clear the windows update history?

Thanks in advance

Re: [JAWS-Users] windows updates seems to be stuck
I've had Windows update get stuck like that using Windows 10. Seems
Windows Defender and Windows update don't always play nice together. So
I went into
Windows defender, checked for and applied updates, then reran the
Windows update again. So far, it  fixes the problem for me.

That may well be true. I don't know what is going on behind the scenes. All
I know is that FF 58 is really, really fast, robust and awesome with NVDA.
It even worked with the previous nVDA version that came out last year, which

I only say this because the new version,
version 58, works great with nVDA, and even the landmark first "Quantum" 57
works with that screen-reader as well, though some folks reported issues.

[JAWS-Users] OE classic

2018-02-21 Thread David Ferrin
I took it out for a test drive yesterday and got the following results. It was
easy enough to configure an email account, but that was the only positive thing
I can say about it.

I made sure first to install the latest update to the JAWS scripts posted last
week which turned out to be not very helpful at all.

The fact is until either side starts working toward being more accessible don’t
bother with the program. The thing is it probably wouldn’t take much to make it
work better as it configured my outlook account automatically which live mail
will not do on its’ own.

[JAWS-Users] Editing or removing reviews on IMDB

2018-02-21 Thread JM Casey
Hey everyone. Are there any IMDB members here? I'd like to edit some of my
reviews. It's three in the morning and maybe I'm just being dense, but I
can't seem to find the link to do this. I'm stuck on the very beginning of
the instructions. You see, I looked at the help page, and it says this:

"To edit or remove a review you posted, go to your "Your Activity" page and
click on "Your Reviews". Click the 3 dots at the top right of your review
and

select either 'Edit' or 'Delete' depending on your request. You can delete
your own review however an edited review must go through the approval
process

again, which means it must meet our

current criteria

for reviews (line count, word usage, etc.)."

So, what is this "your activity" page? They even put it in quotes, like it's
exactly what it should be called. I've looked at my profile page, reviews,
the main home page .. I cannot seem to locate this page. I see the reviews
on my profile, but do not see this ellipsiks they are referring to.

Any ideas, by chance?

Thanks.
