David Whitehead gave instructions on how to switch reading messages from HTML
to text. However, you would then lose your links. For me, not a solution.

I don't like having the links killed. Here is what VFO wrote back today. I'm
trying out changing to running JAWS in the factory default mode.

Cher

Hello Cher,

Thank you for contacting VFOT Technical Support. Please ensure all Windows
updates, including Office updates, are installed and applied. If the issue
persists at that point, please try running JAWS in the factory default mode to
determine if the issue still occurs. To do this, press INSERT+SPACE followed by
Z. This keystroke is a toggle, so pressing it again will disable default mode
when finished.

If the issue does not occur when running JAWS in default mode, you will need to
remove user settings. To do this:
1. If using Windows 7:
A. Navigate to Start>All Programs>JAWS (version number)>Explore JAWS>Explore My
Settings.
B. Highlight all the files in this folder and delete them.
2. If using Windows 8 or above:
A. Navigate to your Start screen, type the word "utilities", and select the
Utilities option populated for the version number being used.
B. Select the option for Explore User Settings.
C. Highlight all files in this folder and delete them.

If the issue still occurs when running it in Default mode, please run a /type
repair on JAWS, as follows:

1. Navigate to the JAWS 2018 installer file. If you don't have it, you may
download it from http://www.freedomscientific.com/Downloads/JAWS
2. With the file highlighted, press SHIFT+F10, or hold down the SHIFT key and
right click it.
3. Select the option that says "Copy as Path".
4. Press WINDOWS+R to invoke the Run dialog.
5. In the edit field, press CTRL+V to paste the path, then a space at the end
of this string.
6. Write the following text exactly (excluding the quotes): "/type repair"
7. Press ENTER or click OK.
At the end of the repair, JAWS will prompt you to reboot the machine.

If this does not resolve the issue, set Outlook back to default views, as
follows:

1. Close Outlook.
2. Press WINDOWS+R to invoke the Run dialog.
3. In the edit field, type the following without the quotes "outlook.exe
/cleanviews".
4. Press ENTER.
5. If the issue persists, repeat steps 1 and 2 above.
6. In the edit field, type the following without the quotes "outlook.exe
/resetnavpane".
7. Press ENTER.

If your issue is still not resolved after having tried all suggestions above,
please call our Support hotline at (727)803-8600 for further troubleshooting

Switching to the default settings by insert-space-z fixes the problem, at
least temporarily.
But it still does not answer the question WHY this is happening. Running
JAWS in default mode means that every keystroke is spoken and the volume is

Really helpful, and you gave me the confidence just now to download and install
the CCleaner update. One more note. Now, when you click the button to upgrade
from the program, the first page has two links near the bottom, one saying
"Yes" and the other "No." Click no to get past the business/pro versions, and
then on the next page you can safely use a download link.

Hi Gerald.
The CCleaner download page is somewhat counterintuitive. However, once you
activate one of the many download links, the standard installer will get
downloaded to your default downloads directory.
Although CCleaner used to install Avast by default, there is good news.
First, using the Jaws cursor in the installer, you can uncheck the relevant
box. But better still, the last three versions of CCleaner standard did not
automatically install any third party software. The check box for Avast is now
absent.

Hi Adrian & List Members,

For the CCleaner users, the link below will put you on the page for
downloading all current available installers. Once on the page navigate by
heading using the letter, H, 3 times to get to the various installers
download links.

http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds

Y'all might want to put this link in your address book or something, so you
can access CCleaner updated versions quickly instead of dealing with their
website.

Hi Gerald.
The CCleaner download page is somewhat counterintuitive. However, once you

Although CCleaner used to install Avast by default, there is good news.
First, using the Jaws cursor in the installer, you can uncheck the relevant

I don't like having the links killed. Here is what VFO wrote back today. I'm
trying out changing to running JAWS in the factory default mode.

Cher

Hello Cher,

Thank you for contacting VFOT Technical Support. Please ensure all Windows
updates, including Office updates, are installed and applied. If the issue
persists at that point, please try running JAWS in the factory default mode
to determine if the issue still occurs. To do this, press INSERT+SPACE
followed by Z. This keystroke is a toggle, so pressing it again will disable
default mode when finished.

If the issue does not occur when running JAWS in default mode, you will need
to remove user settings. To do this:
1. If using Windows 7:
A. Navigate to Start>All Programs>JAWS (version number)>Explore JAWS>Explore
My Settings.

If the issue still occurs when running it in Default mode, please run a
/type repair on JAWS, as follows:

1. Navigate to the JAWS 2018 installer file. If you don't have it, you may
download it from http://www.freedomscientific.com/Downloads/JAWS
2. With the file highlighted, press SHIFT+F10, or hold down the SHIFT key
and right click it.
3. Select the option that says "Copy as Path".
4. Press WINDOWS+R to invoke the Run dialog.
5. In the edit field, press CTRL+V to paste the path, then a space at the
end of this string.

If your issue is still not resolved after having tried all suggestions
above, please call our Support hotline at (727)803-8600 for further
troubleshooting over the phone. We are available Monday-Friday from 8:30 AM
to 7:00 PM EST.

While reading through Outlook messages normally- then the next message opens
in a tables mode or something- such that all JAWS reads is table
announcements and co-ordinates if using the arrow keys to read the message.
Either JAWS or Outlook must be closed to resolve this. I have hoped to see
this fixed several versions ago and am continually disappointed.

This problem occurs in multiple versions of JAWS- including the latest 2018
April update- in multiple versions of Outlook and on both Win 7 and Win 10-
and is being experienced by many users.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Copying a Table from an Email to Word

2018-04-30 Thread Brian Lee
Hello Pam,

I am not sure but it might be that the table is being treated as plain text.
If that is the case then after pasting it in Word you can select the text
and convert the text to a table.

You will need to know how many columns to use and what type of mark
separates the columns. Once you select the text use Alt followed by N
followed by T, and then arrow up to the Convert Text to Table option. When
you press enter key you can then choose how many columns to use. Tab across
the controls and you will find a box for picking the type of mark that
separates the columns. If it is a tab then pick tab in this box, otherwise,
pick the appropriate mark. The bottom of the list also has an option for
"Other" and if you choose that you can tab and enter the separating
character. Chances are good that it is a tab mark separating the columns.
Use the OK button to finish the converting.

There is a setting in Outlook settings for having all mail read in plain
text. You can uncheck this item if it is checked. Use Alt F followed by T
to go into options. In the list of categories go to the last one listed,
which is the trust center. Tab to and press spacebar on the trust center
settings button. Use up arrow to Email security. If you tab through the
controls one of them is for reading all standard mail in plain text. If the
checkbox is checked you can use spacebar to uncheck it. Use the OK button.
This might help for tables you receive in the future.

Again, I am not sure if the table is being treated as text when pasted in
word but if so then you can convert it. If it is actually still being
treated as a table and not plain text then the conversion item will be Table
to Text and you will need to find a different method for having your table
paste with its formatting intact.

Take care.

There are a couple things you might want to try.

First, instead of using CTRL V to paste the text try pressing the
application key, use down arrow to the paste options menu item. Use right
arrow and press enter key on the option to keep source formatting. If that
doesn't work due to your settings in Word or Outlook, try pasting using Alt
with CTRL and V. In the paste special dialog arrow down and choose to paste
as HTML.

I hope one of these methods work for you.

Hi Arvind,

You can get these scripts at http://www.dlee.org/youtube.
If you will use the scripts in English, the installer makes everything for you
on the JAWS versions/languages you choose.
If you speak another language different than English, you will have to
translate the scripts yourself or ask for them in your local communities. As an
example, I translated these scripts and the user guide to Spanish.

Hope it helps!

Re: [JAWS-Users] still having issue with Outlook and HTML messages

2018-04-30 Thread Cher Bosch

If your issue is still not resolved after having tried all suggestions
above, please call our Support hotline at (727)803-8600 for further
troubleshooting over the phone. We are available Monday-Friday from 8:30 AM
to 7:00 PM EST.

Subject: Outlook messages quitt reading properly

While reading through Outlook messages normally- then the next message opens
in a tables mode or something- such that all JAWS reads is table
announcements and co-ordinates if using the arrow keys to read the message.
Either JAWS or Outlook must be closed to resolve this. I have hoped to see
this fixed several versions ago and am continually disappointed.

This problem occurs in multiple versions of JAWS- including the latest 2018
April update- in multiple versions of Outlook and on both Win 7 and Win 10-
and is being experienced by many users.

Hello;
since you didn't say which email client your using, I'll just assume it's
outlook,

Ok;

The keystroke ctrl+shift+y=Copy a Folder So, to add contact to the contacts
folder,

1, enter on the message which contains the email address,

2, use the keystroke, ctrl+shift+y=copy A Folder, You will hear jaws say
something like, Copy item to dialog,

3, press the letter c=contacts press enter, Within a few seconds you should
see the Contact property page with all the contact information, You can
check this by using the tab key.
If your satisfied, just press alt+s=save.
You will be placed back into the message.
This does work with 2016, 2013, I would assume it would work in 2010 also.
Again, the ctrl+shift+y is a office keystroke.

Mike, I specdifically indicated that I do not want to bother with the hassle
of removing Avast, which, according to your instructions, may require
booting into safe mode, which is impossible without sighted help because
JAWS still does not provide speech. Some users on other lists have reported
being unable to remove Avast without booting into safe mode to use the
removal tool, and I don't want to take any chances. Beside, I do not want
to have to remove Avast every time a new version of CCleaner is released,
which is pretty frequently. So I guess the bottom line is that I will
simply have to keep CCleaner 5.38 without updating it. Go Yankees!

Hi Gerald,

You can remove Avast with the removal tool very easily. Read all the steps
first, and there's a download link for the tool below the steps. Here's the
steps:
1. Press enter on the, AvastClear, .EXE file.
2. You will get the following message:

Avast Antivirus Clear
It is recommended to run this tool from Windows Safe Mode.
Do you want to do that?
Press "Yes" to reboot into Safe Mode now and run this tool
from there.
Press "No" to continue running this tool as it is (not
recommended).
Yes No
3. Tab to the, No button, & press enter or spacebar. Now press the spacebar
on the, Uninstall button, to start the uninstall process as Administrator.
After Avast is uninstalled you should get a prompt to restart the computer.
When the computer reboots you can check to see if any remnants of the
program are left behind. The 1 time I used this removal tool the only
remnant I found left behind was an Avast folder in the Program Files, &
Program Data folders on the root of the C drive, but I did not check the
registry.

only the standard and portable versions. Does anyone know what happened to
the slim version of CCleaner? Has it been discontinued? I am reluctant to
download the standard version because it will automatically install Avast
anti-virus surreptitiously, which is difficult to impossible to remove
without sighted help. I have Unchecky installed on my computer, but there no
longer seems to be a detectable check box on the Standard installer
interface which can be unchecked to prevent the installation of Avast. Is
there any way to install the standardversion of CCleaner without also
installing Avast? Or is there another site from where the slim version of
CCleaner 5.42 can be downloaded? Thanks.

You don't have to use a plugin orso.

you can import your internet explorer favorites if you have not done so.
When in Chrome, press alt.

Arrow down to the inport menu and enter
Choose Internet explorer and choose only favorites.
Now you favorites are imported.
Turn the bookmark bar on with ctrl-shift-b
Now you can switch between addressbar, bookmark bar and the webpage with

The bookbark bar shows a folder with the name: imported from Internet

Open that folder with enter and you can use letters to navigate.
You can delete things on the bookmark bar also. Press the application

several things to do first.
in the run dialog type in winver. this will tell you what version of windows is
running. it may of already upgraded.
several times i had a windows upgrade and it did not complete or i had a power
failure while it was upgradeing.
in these cases it would revert back to the old system or else it would continue
from where it left off the next time i turned the computer on.

another thing to check is your power settings in the control panel.
make sure it is set to never sleep or shut down. at least until after any
programs are upgraded.

i normally have my computer set to shut down after 1 hour of non use.
if any upgrade took more then 1 hour to upgrade the computer would still shut
down after 1 hour has passed.

so now i turn shut down off until after the upgrade has finished.
hope this helps.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] I am unable to upgrade Windows 10 from version 1703 to
version 1709

Hi

Around a couple of weeks ago, I began seeing the Windows Update Assistant
wanting to upgrade my Windows 10 Pro computer from Windows 10 1703 to
Windows 10 1709. I had successfully upgraded my Windows 10 Home computer a
few months ago to Windows 10 1709 without the Windows Update Assistant.

So when I tried running the Windows Update Assistant several times, I
received the message that it had failed because of a program not being
compatible with Windows 10. The incompatible program was Magic and that I
needed to manually uninstall it. The only program I could think of is the
Freedom Scientific screen magnification program named Magic. I had
installed Magic version 12 3 or so years ago, when this computer was running
Windows 7, to see how to set it up for a friend of mine. I know that Magic
version 12 is incompatible with Windows 10. So I uninstalled it and was
later successful in installing Windows 10 and then upgrading to Windows 10
1703.

I had written to Freedom Scientific about this, but did not receive any
reply other than the automated message saying my email had been received.

So last week, I tried running the Windows10 Update Assistant after
uninstalling JAWS 18 and JAWS2018and shared components. I did not receive
any messages about incompatible programs. But since the Windows 10 Update
Assistant runs for hours, I saw that it had reached 99% completed when I
went to bed. But in the morning I discovered that the computer had rebooted
and the Windows Update Assistant was gone. I'm trying to run it again
today.

So is there any other way to get and install Windows 10 1709 or steps to
make the Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant run successfully?

Thank you in advance. I will greatly appreciate any help on this matter.

Re: [JAWS-Users] What Happened to CCleaner Slim Version?

2018-04-30 Thread Orlando Enrique Fiol

Hi Gerald.
The CCleaner download page is somewhat counterintuitive. However,
once you activate one of the many download links, the standard
installer will get downloaded to your default downloads directory.
Although CCleaner used to install Avast by default, there is good
news. First, using the Jaws cursor in the installer, you can uncheck
the relevant box. But better still, the last three versions of
CCleaner standard did not automatically install any third party
software. The check box for Avast is now absent.

Using JAWS 18, I am copying it with the F8 key, and then pasting it into Word
with control plus v.

My issue is that it is not keeping the table format when it is pasted into Word.

Does anyone have any other suggestions for how I can keep it formatted as a
table?

Thanks,
Pam

[JAWS-Users] I am unable to upgrade Windows 10 from version 1703 to version 1709

2018-04-30 Thread Mike O'Brien

2018-04-30 Thread Gerald Levy

Program Data folders on the root of the C drive, but I did not check the
registry.

When I launched CCleaner this morning to clean up my hard drive, I was
greeted with the message that a new version, 5.42, was available for
download. Normally, I download the slim version of CCleaner from the Builds
page below, but when I went to this page, I could not find the slim version;
only the standard and portable versions.
Thanks.

Hi. I'm still having the vexing and annoying issue of the latest issue of

This does not happen with every message, but it is repeatable, in that if I

Frankly, this is unacceptable. It would be helpful if the VFO folks who
