[JAWS-Users] Chat with Thunderbird?

2014-03-11 Thread Lisa D Porter

Hi,
I see and have seen, but never messed with it that there is a chat
section in Thunderbird. I'm using the latest version of both JAWS and
Thunderbird. Do any of you know if I could easily and comfortably use
the Face Book and Twitter portions of this?

[JAWS-Users] Help, please?

2014-01-18 Thread Lisa D Porter

Hi,
I'm dealing with this annoying issue in my emails. I'm using Windows 7
Home Premium, JAWS 15 and Thunderbird 24.2.0. When reading emails, I
hear this XWestern thing before any text of the email, on blank lines
and such. When trying to demonstrate this problem to others by
forwarding a message to them, they do not hear this. I've had my
settings to read in HTML and Plain Text with the same results. It does
not do this if reading messages with NVDA. Can anyone help please? It
also did this with JAWS 14. Do I need to back Thunderbird back to a
previous version, change a setting or am I just stuck with this? Thank you.

[JAWS-Users] Possible bug in JAWS 15 with latest Skype?

2013-11-05 Thread Lisa D Porter

Hi,
I'm running JAWS 15 with Windows 8 and the latest version of Skype. I've
run into a strange issue. When IMing with someone, I can no longer read
what they say with alt 1, 2 and so on. Is this normal? Is there a
workaround or should I just downgrade something?

Thanks.

Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws saying wrong things at times

2013-10-29 Thread Lisa D Porter

Hi,
I have a different question about JAWS saying wrong things or not saying
things. I'm running Windows 8 and JAWS 14 as I haven't installed the
update yet. Sometimes I've noticed if I'm reading something and try to
use ctrl left or right arrow instead of hearing the word, I hear . In
some messages I was sending today I would sign Lisa as I will here or
things I'd put in the message it wouldn't read it till I hit left arrow
and then it was there, but if I did the command up arrow-JAWS it would
not read that it was there. My mail program is the latest beta for
Thunderbird and I keep saying I'm going to downgrade it, but I might not
have to. Have any of you seen this behavior or do you know of a fix?
Thanks and sorry for the long post.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft Windows 8 And JAWS

2012-11-23 Thread Lisa D Porter

Hi,
Like someone else that posted here, when I first began using Win 8, I
loved it too until I started trying to do more of the things I'm used to
doing and discovered some of its inaccessibility issues so I reverted
back to 7 and that was a nightmare. I don't like that I could never get
the Weather or news app to read with either JAWS or NVDA. I did not like
that I could not use the built in chat feature. I was also disappointed
that the built in mail program wasn't accessible for me. I'm happy in
Windows 7 again till things are more accessible with 8.

Just to generalize, my take would be as follows:

If things perform as you like now, then it is probably not worth the
upgrade. If you want quicker boot-up times, you may get them with
Windows 8. If you are an access trainer, as I was, then you might want
to put it on your system either as an upgrade, or as a dual-boot so you
can become familiar with some of the new features as the experience is
quite a bit different from earlier versions of Windows.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Windows 8 / JAWS 14 Installation Problem

2012-10-31 Thread Lisa D. Porter

Hi Tim,
I did not have the same experience as you, but once JAWS was installed,
the authorization box popped up so I went through the steps to authorize
it, restarted JAWS as it said and then the authorization box came up
again after telling me the authorization was successful. I called FS as
didn't have any more authorizations left. For some reason I'm only
getting 1 at a time which makes it difficult if something comes up on
the weekend and I have none. Good thing have NVDA as a backup I guess.
LOL Anyway, FS had never heard of this and she said she would bring it
to the attention of those that needed to know as it could be a bug with
JAWS 14. Has this happened to any of you? Also, MS Word told me
yesterday I had to register it again so hope that doesn't stick. Have
today left and my time will be up, it said.

I downloaded JAWS 14 64 bit using another machine and installed it on my

connection and some components were not installed. I have removed and
reinstalled JAWS several times with the same error. The internet
connection is fine. When I try to update authorization it says there is
a problem with the internet connection. If I do a check for updates on
the help menu it says there is a problem with the internet connection.

The internet connection is working with no problems. Only JAWS can't
find it. I don't think it's trying to use the connection because it
comes back instantly and says there is a problem with the connection.

I have successfully installed JAWS 14 on a Windows 7 laptop using the
USB modem and the Verizon software. (VZAccess Manager.)

Not sure what to check or why JAWS doesn't recognize the connection.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

[JAWS-Users] JAWS sending emails

Hi all,
I'm using JAWS 13 as don't usually run beta programs. I'm using it on a
Windows 7 Dell laptop and my mail client is Thunderbird, the latest
version. Whenever I try to send a message to certain people in my
address book JAWS will put a ( before the address and a ) after it thus
causing the message not to be sent. If I clear the address from my book
I can then create a brand new message manually typing it in and it goes
just fine. Thank God I also have NVDA on my system to do little tests
like this and I hadn't even planned to test it, but I ended up in here
with NVDA and was able to create a message with one of the addresses
JAWS gives me problems on. The message was sent successfully. Any ideas

Subject: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 12 and Thunderbird?

Hi all,
I'm posting this question for a friend. She's using JAWS 12 and Thunderbird
12. She actually can't use this combination as it simply won't read for her.
Is there a better version of Thunderbird that she should use? Thanks for any
help.
Lisa

Re: [JAWS-Users] DVD Ripping Software

2012-08-11 Thread Lisa D. Porter

Hi Scott,
I use and love Magic DVD Ripper. I used it with JAWS 9 to 13 and Windows
XP, Vista and 7. It is not free software, but very easy to use and it's
not too expensive. You can get a trial of it from

http://www.magicdvdripper.com/

Good luck and email privately with any questions. Enjoy.

Hi,

Can anyone recommend DVD ripping software that is accessible with JAWS?
Nothing too fancy. I just want to rip some DVDs to add to iTunes so I can
play them on my Apple TV. I'm using Windows 7, 64 bit, with JAWS 13.

Thanks,

[JAWS-Users] latest JAWS 13 update?

2012-08-03 Thread Lisa D. Porter

Hi all,
Sorry if this has been covered, but yet again this laptop screwed up and
I lost all messages. Since I installed the latest JAWS update my JAWS
has been crashing or something where I have to dump it and bring it via
a shortcut. Have any of you experienced this? If so, is there a fix or
anything like that? Thanks.

latest update.

You could try making another account but I don't have any idea if
this would
fix the problem

If you are using I E 9, there should be no problem. I E 8, you will
have to
update the screen manually.

it is not jaws. My wife can not log in and jaws is not running. I
later want her to try and log in on her macbook. If she can not the
problem is at the barb site.

Hi.
Do you have another screen reader on your machine?
If so you could try using that screen reader to enter the password and
see if it works.
That will tell you if the problem is jaws or not.

no, they have been working on it and they set up the temp password. It
gets messed up from my computer to their server. They go into my
account establish a new password and send it to me. Then it fails when
I try to log in.

The problem is not at all with jaws 13 latest build. I have no idea
where it is.
I had several new ones sent and tried with jaws 12 and it failed.
Another new temp was sent to me and tried it with jaws 11. I had them
send me yet another. This time I unloaded jaws and had my wife enter
the temp password and it failed.

[JAWS-Users] playing you tube files?

2012-03-17 Thread Lisa D. Porter

Hi all,
I can play these files with no problem and don't recall having to do
anything to do this. I use Firefox for my browser. My best friend uses
IE and she can't play them at all. I also tried this in IE and I
couldn't play them. Is there some sort of add on I need to get to be
able to play them or that she needs to get to be able to play them?
Thanks for all the neat shortcuts and info about this player. Now, if
only Adobe would get more user friendly.

[JAWS-Users] MediSoft JAWS?

2012-03-09 Thread Lisa D. Porter

Hi,
I jumped into this thread late so if this has been covered, please
forgive me? I'm hoping to begin school in the fall to train to be a
medical coder and I know they use MediSoft software. I called FS and
they told me to ask lists as other people might know. Do any of you know
anything about whether this software works with JAWS or if there are
issues? Thanks.

[JAWS-Users] Kendall PC reader JAWS?

2011-11-02 Thread Lisa D. Porter

Hi all,
This may have been discussed before, but I missed the thread, sorry. Is
it possible to read Kendall books from Amazon or other places using the
Kendall PC reader? Thanks and I might have the name partially incorrect,
but it's where you can read them using your computer without having the
actual physical reader.

Thanks.

Hi Marvin,
You need to make sure the Trend Micro is not running before you try to
un-install it.
Windows Defender will have to stay, as previously mentioned.

Hi all,

Just started working with a Win 7 ASUS laptop, 64-bit, Jaws 12. I wanted to
clean it up some like take the junk off. I wanted to remove Trent Micro
Internet Security and Windows Defender as I am going to put Microsoft
Security Essentials on the machine.
Trent Micro is in the Remove programs list but the machine will not remove
it. Windows Defender is not in the remove programs list and I can't find a
uninstall.exe file. .
Can anyone tell me how to get rid of these two programs?
Another question, do I need Windows Live Essentials?
Thanks for your help,
Marvin

[JAWS-Users] Reading .xml documents in IE

2011-07-30 Thread Lisa D Porter

Hi all,
I used to read the papers from Newsline and when I got them they were in
.XML files. I used to be able to read them in IE, but now, I can't. Do I
need to do something special to be able to do this? I'm using Windows 7
Home Premium, JAWS 12 and IE 9. Thanks and I really hope someone can
help as I loved doing that.
