Subject: [JAWS-Users] E-mail in Outlook 2010 is being read abnormally

When I am going through the List View of my In Box, using Outlook 2010,
Win.7 and JAWS 12, after I enter on a message to read, it usually says
Document something or other. It will announce randomly Document 1 through
Document 12 so far. After that I hear if I have any problems reading, then
I should use the web browser. What I would like to get rid of is the
Document announcement because after this is read, then I must manually go
through the fields again to get to the message, in order to start it to
read. All of these extra steps wastes so much time each day, considering
the volume of e-mail messages I read.

What can I do to eliminate all of this and just start the message reading
at the top normally, without additional confusion?

Thank you for any help.

2014-05-07 Thread Steve
Personally, if it meets your needs, I'd keep it. I don't know of a version
2006, I suspect it is 2007.

If you do decide to update to 2010, this is the version of Outlook that
added ribbons as was present in the 2007 versions of Word, Excel, etc.

Hi, I finally found the information on the version of Outlook I'm using,
and

it looks like it's Outlook 2006.  If I update to the latest version;
1. Will it cost me anything? (I don't think so, but I'd like to be sure)
2. Will I have to reconfigure everything, like set up new folders, rules,
and stuff?
3. Will I be able to retain all the emails I've saved in folders on my
current version?
4. Does 2010 have changes that will make it worth the trouble?

I can live happily with what I have, but one is always curious. I'm using
Windows 7 ultima and JAWS 14 (still).

hello;

well, I highly doubt you have version 2006,since there is no such version,
most likely MicrosoftR Office OutlookR 2007 (12.0.6691.5000)
to find the version information,

from the inbox, press alt+h=help,
up arrow enter on about,
most likely you will need to route jaws to pc to read the information,

Re: [JAWS-Users] E-mail in Outlook 2010 is being read abnormally

2014-05-06 Thread Joseph FreeTech
Hi,

Unless you're running some sort of customized hybrid, Microsoft did not sell
an Office Outlook 2006. Read this for details.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Outlook

You can determine the version of Outlook on your computer by determining the
version of Office on your computer.
1. Please press the Windows key to open the Start menu search box then type
the following:
Office
2. After having typed the word office do not press enter simply press the
down arrow to review the results.
3. Please convey if you come across items such as Microsoft Office Excel
2007, Microsoft Office Word 2007, Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007, etc.
4. You can press Escape key to close the Start menu search box.

To answer some of your other questions, to upgrade from Office 2007 to
Office 2010 you will have to pay as well as upgrading to Office 2013. I will
also add that at this point Freedom Scientific suggests Jaws users consider
sticking to Office 2010--you can always call and ask for their suggestions
as they might be working on Jaws features which will help bridge the gap
between what is not currently accessible.

As for the upgrade to Office 2010 being necessary, I am happily using
Office 2007 as it is very screenreader friendly as well as very keyboard
friendly; I've not found the justification to upgrade to Office 2010 or
Office 2013.

Hi Shoshana,
Office 2010 works great with wind 7 and jaws 14, that is what I'm running in
my other laptop.

In this laptop I migrated from Office 2007 to Office 2013 with the same set
up as the other one.

Well, the program I receive came in a box with a MS card with my key number
on it.
I called Microsoft Accessibility and they help me install Office 2013.
They also saved my PST file and merge all my contacts, email folders and
outlook setting to the new Office 2013.
They configured my computer and looked it over and ran their antivirus as
well.
When, we logged off I got a perfect running PC and my new Office.
I didn't have to do nothing, just log in through the internet and paste my
key number, when it was time.

Hey, that help line is free, might as well use it to your advantage.

I believe the Jaws related Microsoft Outlook information below is correct,
but I'm 99% sure it no longer applies as of J14 or Jaws15. Newer versions of
Jaws made many changes as to how HTML mail is presented to the user.

For those having problems with Jaws reading your email presented in HTML,
you should consider changing how your email messages are presented to you.
If you change email to be shown as plain text you will be able to read your
mail just like it is shown in Outlook Express or WLM. Best of all, you will
still be able to press enter on links to have their respective webpages
open. Please let me know if you are serious about making this change, and
I'll elaborate. :)

Re: [JAWS-Users] E-mail in Outlook 2010 is being read abnormally

2014-05-06 Thread Joseph FreeTech
To those reading this information below, remember that there is a difference
between installing an application and it's accessibility. The person below
successfully installed Office 2013, but I don't think Jaws is fully up to
the challenge of Office 2013 features. The items on the ribbon might be
successfully read by Jaws, but when it comes to some of the newer features
I'm sure it will get a bit frustrating when one can't seem to execute the
instructions when wanting to use some of the more obscure features of Office
2013. I guess I'm simply suggesting one consider the pros and cons of such
decisions as they may not be easily undone as might be the case if someone
installs Office 2013 over their previously good working version of Office.

Hi, I finally found the information on the version of Outlook I'm using, and
it looks like it's Outlook 2006. If I update to the latest version; 1.
Will it cost me anything? (I don't think so, but I'd like to be sure) 2.
Will I have to reconfigure everything, like set up new folders, rules, and
stuff?
3. Will I be able to retain all the emails I've saved in folders on my
current version?
4. Does 2010 have changes that will make it worth the trouble?

I can live happily with what I have, but one is always curious. I'm using
Windows 7 ultima and JAWS 14 (still).

Hi,
I have used the info below, which I saved from Freedom:
In Outlook 2007 and 2010, the way HTML e-mails are read has been changed by
Microsoft.
In outlook 2010 with JAWS 12 and 13, use the keystroke Insert+shift+w to
read messages in the internet Browser. Again this change was made by
Microsoft.
The keystroke: alt + H +X +V
reads in Outlook 2007. It causes the message to be read from the internet
browser.

1, open the message,

I would suggest,

within the view menu,
navigation pane set to normal,
the to-do-bar be set to off,
the reading pane set to off,
hope this helps.
