Re: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft Excel Column Headings

2017-04-25 Thread Mike O'Brien
Hi

In earlier versions of JAWS when you were positioned at a certain cell there
were keystrokes to read the cell in rows 1 through 5 of the same column and
there were keystrokes to read the cell in columns 1 through 5 of the same
row. But in Excel 2010, which I am using, the functions to do the reading
of a specific column or row are still there, but know keystroke has been
assigned by Freedom Scientific. So I created keystroke assignments for
these functions and they work fine. The default script source for Excel in
JAWS 18 states that it is for Excel 2013 and higher.

So below are the key assignments I used for these functions. Copy these key
assignments and paste them into a file. Make sure the file is named
excel.jkm. Move this file into your JAWS user settings folder, assuming
that there is not already a file there with the same name. If there is
already a file with that name, then these keystrokes must be put in to that
file.

[Common Keys]
control+Alt+1=ColumnFirstCellFromTop
control+Alt+2=ColumnSecondCellFromTop
control+Alt+3=ColumnThirdCellFromTop
control+Alt+4=ColumnFourthCellFromTop
control+Shift+1=RowFirstCellFromLeft
control+Shift+2=RowSecondCellFromLeft
control+Shift+3=RowThirdCellFromLeft
control+Shift+4=RowFourthCellFromLeft

No, I just want a quick key that will read the cell header at the top of the
column if that makes any sense e.g. the list below:

Name:
Steve
Bob
Paul

The column header name is the one that I would like to read so if I am
moving across the sheet I can always quickly use a key to check the column
heading if that makes any sense?

Hello,
I looked in the default Jaws Keyboard manager, and there are already
keystrokes available to read current Column and Read Current Row.

Is this not what you're looking for?

Hey Steven,
I did some more digging in the Jaws Keyboard manager. Just to get the record
straight, I use Jaws version 9.0 and Microsoft Excel and Word 2003. So maybe
these keystrokes aren't available in the newer versions.
In the Microsoft Excel JKM file, there is a neat little keystroke called Say
Column Title. Alt plus shift plus C.
but in the Microsoft Word JKM file the keystroke is alt plus jaws key plus
shift plus C.
now the strange part. When I tried it in Excel, it wouldn't give me the column
title. But when I did an Alt 1, I heard it loud and clear.
that's just how things are sometimes.

[JAWS-Users] Microsoft Excel Column Headings

2017-04-19 Thread HICKS, Steven (ROYAL CORNWALL HOSPITALS NHS TRUST)
Hi friends,

Does anyone have any quick instructions on how I can set up JAWS with a
shortcut key like alt+1 or something to read the column title which can be
higher up the screen but not necessarily on the top row?

Many thanks in anticipation,
