It saves you from trying to press 3 keys at once, lol. Just press the insert key, and let go, and then press the other keys. I love it, smiles. Patti Patti, I will definitely check this out. Re: [JAWS-Users] New JAWS user question about caps lock as JAWS key
Hi If you use laptop layout, you can issue insert+j by pressing ctrl+shift+caps lock+j. The ctrl+shift+caps lock emulates the insert key, handy if you're using a laptop that has a retarded insert key location or none at all. This is however not an alternative insert key modifyer - it doesn't work with t for say window title, for instance.. It's specifically for insert+j where you don't have an insert key. This is pretty much the only key combination that requires the insert key though, if you have laptop layout, and thus the biggest combination you might need it for. That said, I still use insert when I want to press j even though I use laptop layout. This is because with laptop layout, caps lock j goes left by word - caps lock j emulates the same thing that num pad0+num pad4 does with desktop layout (say prior word). I have the caps lock shift ctrl j option but it's more natural for me to reach for insert with the right hand, then hit j with the left pointer finger. Not a standard acceptable contortion for touch typist such as myself, but it works. Cheers: Aaron Spears, A.K.A. valiant8086. Re: [JAWS-Users] New JAWS user question about caps lock as JAWS key
Actually, that is the only standard JAWS command using insert that gives me a problem. I have no idea why FS/VFO made that the key combo to open the JAWS menus. Yes, of course, j could stand for JAWS, but it's a combo that requires taking the left hand out of position to press the j. If this is your only problem using the insert key, I'd reconsider whether you need to switch to caps lock. Then again, since you're a new JAWS user, perhaps you haven't had all the commonly used keystrokes ingrained yet. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Loy Sent: Monday, September 04, 2017 8:12 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] New JAWS user question about caps lock as JAWS key It is hard to reach the key combinations with the right hand using the insert key, for instance insert and J. j - Original Message - From: Adrian Spratt To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Monday, September 4, 2017 7:19 AM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] New JAWS user question about caps lock as JAWS key Hi, Loy. Re: [JAWS-Users] New JAWS user question about caps lock as JAWS key
With the JAWS default setting, there's no need to go to the numpad to use INSERT as the JAWS key. I always use extended insert, except for a few spelling commands which use the 5 on the numpad, which is different from INSERT+5 of the extended keyboard to say colors. In most keyboards, extended insert is just up to the DELETE key; in newer ones I saw it just right to the right CTRL key, but it's less common. 2017-09-04 10:08 GMT-03:00 Humberto Rodriguez <s...@hrfinancial.com>: > The only thing you have to remember is to press it twice quickly when you > want to turn Caps lock on or off. No. I'm used to using the insert key and don't actually remember most of the caps-lock keystrokes. It's designed for laptop users but can be used easily on a desktop keyboard instead if that's what you want.
