Mike, thanks for this.

You answered a question Jorge and I weren't asking, but buried in your post
is the solution to the question we did ask!! That's a back-handed
compliment, though you deserve all the praise you get.

We knew how to identify vertical tabs. What we couldn't do was perform a
search-and-replace for that character. I'd been trying ^11 as the search
term, but as Brian and you point out, the correct code is ^011. I just
tested a search-and-replace with the 0 added and immediately got rid of 24
instances.

So again, thanks. Please keep posting answers to the questions people
haven't asked, as well as all your right answers to the right questions.
Either way, you're a big help.

Hi Adrian & Jorge,

Try the following:
From: Brian Lee
The following steps should work:
1. Press JAWS key with D to bring up the dictionary manager.

2. Use CTRL with Shift and D to load the default dictionary manager.

3. Tab to the tree view and press E for English.

4. Expand the English option by using right arrow key.

5. Use down arrow key and find the appropriate synthesizer. You can
also press E for Eloquence, V for ?Vocalizer, V until you find Vocalizer
Expressive, etc.

6. Use right arrow to open the appropriate synthesizer item.

7. Press a backslash key until you find a backslash followed by 011.
JAWS should tell you that this equals Vertical Tab.

8. Tab to the Change button and press spacebar.

9. In the Actual Word field should be the \011. Tab to the
Replacement Word field and press spacebar one time.

10. Tab to OK and use spacebar.

11. Use CTRL with S to save changes.

12. Close the window using Alt with F4.

13. You might or might not need to restart JAWS.
The above worked for me using a Vocalizer Expressive profile.
Take care.

Hi, Mike. The only thing I would add to this post is that if the value
beginning with the backslash is not in the default dictionary under english,

Hi Adrian,

Slap, slap! LOL Your're welcome. I knew Jorge & yourself would find the
answer you were seeking in the post but, at the same time anyone else having
this Vertical Tab issue would get the rest of the info.

Take care.

Hi, Mike. The only thing I would add to this post is that if the value
beginning with the backslash is not in the default dictionary under english,
and under your particular synthesizer, you may need to press the Add button,
instead of the Change button, add the \011 value in the Real Word field,
then tab to the replacement field and type the space character as the

of > (greater than) signs, and so on. The "unformatted Unicode text" option in

Regardless, my workaround is:

select and copy the entire message not with control-a,-but by placing focus at
the top of the message and pressing shift-control-end.
Paste the copied text into Notepad,
Select and copy that result with control-a, Paste the result into an empty Word

If I paste from the email to Word, the confusing table format is retained.

Recently, I have been having problems with selecting, copying, and pasting

In many instances, the text I select does not correspond to what I later

The only way I can get the copied and pasted text to correspond to the

Microsoft Outlook by default sends messages as HTML. You can also send them as
plain text or as Rich Text (I assume that's RTF format, but I haven't
investigated it, since HTML is what is now recommended and the Rich Text
option is obsolete).

I work in an environment where the features of Microsoft Outlook are used
extensively, especially the calendar integration, but also the HTML message
format.

Somehow or other, Notepad eliminates the tables without changing the sequence
of text.

In paste special, to ensure the added material conforms to the document's text,
you want to choose "unformatted text."

The table format is very likely to be your problem, as you have to be very
careful with what you select, and the table structure may not be preserved when
pasted.

I suggest experimenting with the paste options. Microsoft Word has several of
these, and you need to choose the correct one. I've had difficulty with this
while copying text from one MS-Word document to another. I can't remember which
option preserves the original document styles, but it's the one that I would
suggest trying first. Microsoft Outlook uses styles similar to those of
Microsoft Word.

Well, since I don't use Outlook I don't have all these extra formatting issues
to deal with. I can use HTML or TXT to send & receive messages. It sounds
like using Outlook is more like emailing using Word with all the formatting
turned on! LOL I do understand that Outlook is a more sophisticated email

Yes, Mike, but altering it in different ways. In my experience, when a message
is set up to be forwarded, additional paragraph breaks appear, sometimes lots
of > (greater than) signs, and so on. The "unformatted Unicode text" option in
paste special simply conforms the font size and style, etc., to the existing
document or, if you haven't yet created a document, to your default format. In
Word, this feature saves your document from being littered with all kinds of
inconsistent line spacing, fonts, etc.

Mike:

When I have encountered the problem, I was in reading mode with regard to the
involved e-mail.

In the latest situation, I tried to select, copy, and paste the info I wanted
after putting the e-mail in the forwarding mode, but only got partial
information, and some of what I did not want.

In this case, the info presented is in a table format, which, as Adrian
suggested, could be part of the problem.

Even though it is a bit more work, I can select, copy, and paste the entire
e-mail into a notepad document, and work with it from there.

I have yet to try the paste special option, but will do so at some point.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Problems With Selecting, Copying, And Pasting e-mail message content In Outlook 2016

2016-11-12 Thread Adrian Spratt
Yes, Mike, but altering it in different ways. In my experience, when a message
is set up to be forwarded, additional paragraph breaks appear, sometimes lots
of > (greater than) signs, and so on. The "unformatted Unicode text" option in
paste special simply conforms the font size and style, etc., to the existing
document or, if you haven't yet created a document, to your default format. In
Word, this feature saves your document from being littered with all kinds of
inconsistent line spacing, fonts, etc.

Hi Tom,

You will find that the paste special option comes in very handy. I am aware
that selecting text while in a edit mode will alter the selected text but, when
copying text & pasting it into a text file, that's exactly what you're doing.
Take care.

Tom, I typically encounter this problem when the message consists of tables.

Regardless, my workaround is:

select and copy the entire message not with control-a,-but by placing focus at
the top of the message and pressing shift-control-end.
Paste the copied text into Notepad,
Select and copy that result with control-a, Paste the result into an empty Word
file.
Then I search for the passage I want and go from there.

If I paste from the email to Word, the confusing table format is retained.
As I write, I'm wondering if I've tried the control-alt-v paste special method
to paste as unformatted text. You might try that in order to skip the Notepad
step.

Hello, everyone.

Recently, I have been having problems with selecting, copying, and pasting
e-mail message content in Outlook 2016.

In many instances, the text I select does not correspond to what I later copy
and paste either into a word or notepad document.

I have tried routing the PC cursor to the Jaws cursor, but this does not solve
the issue.

The only way I can get the copied and pasted text to correspond to the selected
text is to select the text character by character, and then go through the
usual copy and paste process.

I believe this is a Jaws issue.

I'm using Windows 7 and Jaws 17 with Outlook 2016 here.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

and paste either into a word or notepad document.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Problems With Selecting, Copying, And Pasting e-mail message content In Outlook 2016

2016-11-12 Thread Michael B.
Hi All,

When y'all are copying text do you have the message open as if you were
reading the message? Or, do you have the message in edit mode, as in
forward / reply mode?

Running Outlook Express , & not Outlook, I always have the message I want to
copy text from in an edit mode so the cursor won't jump around on me using
the text selection keystrokes.
Take care.

Tom, I typically encounter this problem when the message consists of tables.
Regardless, my workaround is:

select and copy the entire message not with control-a,-but by placing focus
at the top of the message and pressing shift-control-end.
Paste the copied text into Notepad,
Select and copy that result with control-a,
Paste the result into an empty Word file.
Then I search for the passage I want and go from there.

If I paste from the email to Word, the confusing table format is retained.
As I write, I'm wondering if I've tried the control-alt-v paste special
method to paste as unformatted text. You might try that in order to skip the
Notepad step.

I use the Paste Special option frequently. Especially when copying info

Your first suggestion does work here, and is probably what I'll do in this
situation for now.

I've never tried the control Alt V paste special method, and would be
interested to know if others have had more luck with that.

I can also give it a try here at some point.

Thanks for the suggestions.
