82nd verse, same as the first.
Simply put, I experience this issue also. However, after waiting for a few
minutes (literally), Jaws comes up. Sometimes I have to do a alt tab
command, but like all of you, it is frustrating, and more than a little bit
aggravating.

Hey!

I Also am using The latest version of Windows 10 with the latest version of
JAWS 2018. This logon problem has been with me right from my first
installation of Windows 10.
I have discussed this problem with FS Support on more than 1 occasion.

Again, I had a chat with JAWS support about the logon problem 2 days ago.
He told me that is my particular machine that is having the problem. He
said that it is not wide-spread. He told me to contact the Microsoft
Accessibility Help Desk. I haven't had time to contact them yet.

The problem for me is really hit and miss. Most of the time I don't hear
anything when my machine boots up. Some times JAWS starts and tells me the
focus has been lost. Some times, the Windows sound is heard. Most of the
time it is not.

When I am stuck, I will hit Insert+F4 to unload JAWS, press Escape to cancel
it, hit Alt+Tab, hit Enter, go into Touch Cursor mode, find the Password
field, type my password, find the Sign-in button and press enter. Rather a
long process just to logon.

Hi folks! This issue is an oldy but a goody, and one that hasn't been fixed
for me yet.

I have two windows 10 computers, and many times JAWS will not say anything
at the log-on screen indicating that I can type the password. Sometimes I
can press Control plus Alt plus Delete, and here the prompt to type my
password. Sometimes, I have to load narrator to find where to put in the
password. The behavior is inconsistent at best.

I wanted to post this to the list, and see if there is anything I can do to
make JAWS work better in this situation. Is there a setting that I need to
check, either in Windows or in JAWS? Any help would be appreciated.

2018-03-28 Thread Fernando Gregoire
Hi all,

Although this should be fixed by FS, see the following Freedom Scientific
support technical support bulletin that includes a workaround related to a
Windows setting causing the problem:
http://www.freedomscientific.com/Support/TechnicalSupport/Bulletin/1662

I also discovered that this problem is also less frequent in computers where I
have Fast Startup setting in Power Options turned off. When this option is on
and you shut down, computer is actually hibernated in the logon screen instead
of making a full shutdown and boot.

Hope it helps somewhat!

Hi Hareth,

"...If not that means their is a problem with jaws starting on the logon
screen."?
If JAWS doesn't come up talking at the Logon screen, there is a problem with
JAWS.

I just did a test where I booted my computer a number of times. Every time
I did, one of 2 things happened. A few times, the only thing I heard was
"unavailable". A few times, I heard absolutely nothing, in which cases, I
didn't know if I was at the logon screen yet.
Each time, I hit Insert+T to hear the window title and each time it said
"Title equals".
A number of times, I hit Spacebar and it took me to the password field every
time. I tried hitting Shift+F8 one time and it did the same thing.
This is better than what I've been doing to get around the problem. Thanks
for the tip.

The FS Support people I've spoken to think that this is not a very
widespread problem.
I would like to encourage people to report here or to FS Support if their
computer does not come up talking automatically as expected when they boot
up.
This will let FS know the extent of the problem.

Hi Reed,
Give this a try, it always work for me,
When you boot up your computer do nothing other then pressing the
"space bar" it says password edit 99% of the times, when jaws doesn't
see the password edit field.
If that didn't work try hitting "shift plus F8"
those 2 ways work if jaws is running.
If not that means their is a problem with jaws starting on the logon screen.

Hi Reed, That's the same issue I'm getting on my laptop. Jaws not
announcing the focus on password field with the logon screen.
Glad It worked for you.

2018-03-28 Thread Reed

Hi Mike and All,

I am experiencing the same scenarios as you with logging into my Windows10
machines at both home and work. In all cases I am using the latest builds
of JAWS2018 on varrious models of a Dell Latitude. I've used Alt+Tab,
Control+Alt+Delete, Escape, and Narrator. All with varrying results.
Narrator is the most consistent solution, but sometimes it will not load, or
at least that is how it appears.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Still having problems with JAWS speaking at the log on screen

2018-03-28 Thread Sharon S
Hi, I have the same issue using windows 10 and Jaws 18. I normally alt tab
between jaws and the log on screen and press esc key while on the log on
screen. Sometimes the esc works and sometimes it doesn't. I find between the
esc key, alt tabbing and just plain tabbing the edit box ends up coming up.
I have had this issue for quite some time but I don't have it occurring so
much on my PC running jaws 17 and my new laptop running jaws 2018 .All three
computers are running windows 10 with latest updates.

I would be interested if anyone is able to solve this one.

2018-03-28 Thread Reed

Hi all,

I like most of you find that jaws either comes up very late or earlier
depending on rather or not the machine is doing system updates or not. I guess
I am more patient then most. I find that usually jaws will come up how ever it
takes its good old time. I have my windows 10 vm set to give me the login
sound which works but as I said before this could be more of a windows thing
rather than jaws. Just my take on the matter.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Still having problems with JAWS speaking at the log on screen

2018-03-28 Thread Tom Behler
Mike and all:

I also have this issue, and it has become more prominent again with the
latest build of Jaws 2018.

The interesting thing is that I'm using Windows 7 here, so I don't think the
problem is limited to Windows 10.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Still having problems with JAWS speaking at the log on
screen
