configuration, the 2nd command should resolve it back to normal.

Hi Fernando,

In the Ease of Access Center / Use the computer without a display, should
only the running version of Jaws be checked, or should all installed
versions of Jaws be checked? Thanks much.

Hi Mike,

Note that in Windows 8 and 10, unlike in Windows 7, when you set UAC to 0%
you stop the dialog from appearing but, instead of disabling UAC to run
everything as administrator by default as in Windows XP and prior versions,
the UAC will automatically deny these permisions for programs trying to
write, delete or modify something in a folder requiring administrator
privileges different to the one in which the executable is stored.
You can use scripts or group policies to disable UAC in Windows 10, but some
things like some UWP apps and special shell extensions will not work
properly, for a reason I don't know why.
However, when you make changes in the UAC slider and press the OK button, a
UAC confirmation will appear in a secure desktop, therefore JAWS will take a
few seconds before speaking, and it could speak nothing if you have your
current JAWS version disabled in the Ease of Access Center. When this dialog
appear, simply answer the confirmation as any other UAC dialog.
Although is less safe, you can also configure UAC to display confirmations
in a window on your user's desktop instead of a secure one, so you don't
need to wait until JAWS switches its response to the secure desktop.

Hope it helps a bit!

That's unusual,
Try below commands, Make sure to run the command prompt as administrator.
Disable UAC:
C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /k %windir%\System32\reg.exe ADD
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v
EnableLUA /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

Re enable UAC:

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /k %windir%\System32\reg.exe ADD
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v
EnableLUA /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f

You need to re boot your system for that to take effect.

Hi Mike,

Have you tried installing it as administrator? I am certainly no expert,
but I run an internet radio station with many presenters all over the world
and I write for each a compiled batch file with pre-configured SFTP so each
can easily upload his or her respective program to the appropriate folder in
the server and the resulting small .exe file encounters different fate in
different Windows 10 computers, a mystery to me. Most have no problem
storing it, saving it to their respective hard drives and they work as
expected, but in some, Windows Defender will erase them and they claim not
to be able to prevent it. I have had no such problems myself, it is hard to
understand.

Re: [JAWS-Users] User Account Control Settings, Setting it to Zero

2018-03-22 Thread JM Casey
Yeahwhen I first got this computer I quickly set the UAC notification to
0%. After a while of installing programs and doing other things with the
system, I kind of realised how those notifications were there to help me.
All it is is one one extra keystroke. And if you end up in a situation where
a program tries to do something with admin rights and you think it shouldn't
have them, you might be very glad the notification is there. Although
someone said above that in Windows 10 (which is what I have), setting to 0%
actually prevents any of this potentially unwanted stuff from happening
without notifying you from what I recall, that wasn't actually my
experience. I guess I could do some more experimenting, though.

I think you have other things going on here besides UAC, if your Windows
Defender is coming up. You may need to disabling scanning in Windows
Defender after you adjust UAC.

Type UAC in your search Box.
Select User Account in the results.
3. Use the slider and select "Never Notify".
4. Hit Ok.
5. Reboot your PC for the setting to take effect.

Note: I don't know if this still works in build 1709; I don't disable it
since it helps protect against malicious program installation.

YMMV,

You really don't want to do this, annoying as the dialog is, I did it once
and three days later had a computer disaster. Hate it too but live with it.

Re: [JAWS-Users] User Account Control Settings, Setting it to Zero

2018-03-22 Thread Humberto Rodriguez

I have had no such problems myself, it is hard to
understand.

Regards,

Humberto

I've had a similar issue before. Of course, when you go to disable uac, and
choose ok, uac comes up and asks if you really want to disable it. The
experience I had was that jaws didn't read the uac message at that point for
some reason, so once you've clicked ok after choosing, set uac to zero, wait
a few seconds and then press altY to say yes to uac, and hopefully it will
implement the change. Not sure about windows 10, but it seems to me that in
windows 7 you need to restart the pc to have the changes take effect.

Re: [JAWS-Users] User Account Control Settings, Setting it to Zero

2018-03-21 Thread Fernando Gregoire
Hi Mike,

Note that in Windows 8 and 10, unlike in Windows 7, when you set UAC to 0% you
stop the dialog from appearing but, instead of disabling UAC to run everything
as administrator by default as in Windows XP and prior versions, the UAC will
automatically deny these permisions for programs trying to write, delete or
modify something in a folder requiring administrator privileges different to
the one in which the executable is stored.
You can use scripts or group policies to disable UAC in Windows 10, but some
things like some UWP apps and special shell extensions will not work properly,
for a reason I don't know why.
However, when you make changes in the UAC slider and press the OK button, a UAC
confirmation will appear in a secure desktop, therefore JAWS will take a few
seconds before speaking, and it could speak nothing if you have your current
JAWS version disabled in the Ease of Access Center. When this dialog appear,
simply answer the confirmation as any other UAC dialog.
Although is less safe, you can also configure UAC to display confirmations in a
window on your user's desktop instead of a secure one, so you don't need to
wait until JAWS switches its response to the secure desktop.

Hope it helps a bit!

That's unusual,
Try below commands, Make sure to run the command prompt as administrator.
Disable UAC:
C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /k %windir%\System32\reg.exe ADD
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v
EnableLUA /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

Re enable UAC:

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /k %windir%\System32\reg.exe ADD
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v
EnableLUA /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f

You need to re boot your system for that to take effect.

Hi Holger,

I used the arrow keys & Page Down, & I can set it at zero, but after I press
enter on, Okay, I can't get out of the User Account Settings unless I use
the touch cursor to get to the, Close, button & press enter. But, if I go
back in, it's back at, 33%! What am I doing wrong?! Thank you very much
for your help.

Try to close it to get out from there. I think it will keep to zero. I went
to control P to change the setting because like you it was driving me nuts.

Hello Mike:

UAC is your friend and protector; I simply press Alt-Y to answer yes when I
want to allow something, it isn't hard to do and prevents a trojan from
sneaking by.
