Re: [JAWS-Users] Device installation settings
Hi David, I apologize for saying, "shooting the messenger", you are correct, it's OK to express any concerns about changing unfamiliar settings. I also was not aware of this setting. From every thing that I have read on this setting. If set to yes, your computer can get updated apps and icons, right from your computer manufacturer, without you having to go and get them manually from your manufacturers website. We all know what a pain in the butt it can be at times to get the right driver and install it correctly on your computer. Sorry if I caused any confusion about this setting. Hi Jim, That's good because it ain't fun! LOL I've had it happen, but I was the 1 doing the driver update, so since I knew what I had just done I was able to fix the problem without any guesswork. If it would have happened as an automatic update, there's no telling how long it would have taken to find & resolve the problem. I guess the quickest way to resolve such an issue would be a system restore, but I hope I don't have to find out. Take care. Re: [JAWS-Users] Device installation settings
Just a note on this: Randomly updating device drivers is not a highly recommended practice, especially if they are not from the original device manufacturer. Updating device drivers is only recommended when it adds additional security, or fixes a specific problem. Having said that, they should be otherwise left as they are, since updating them can result in unexpected problems. Re: [JAWS-Users] Device installation settings
Personally I won't do this only because, for example, what happens if a soundcard driver updates, & it screws up the way the soundcard was working? Well, you're possibly stuck without Jaws , or your screenreader of choice. I'm by no means stating that this will happen, but I can't imagine the endless possibilities of what could happen, & with what apps/ drivers behind the scenes leaving you sitting there wondering what the hell just happened!
