You can set up 10 different cell ranges to allow monitoring with a key combination. Look in JAWS help for Excel. Re: [JAWS-Users] Monitoring a cell in excel -- and investing into Advanced Jaws Training
Hello Michael, You can set up to ten monitor cells in Excel. Once set the content of the cells can be heard by using a keystroke. You will hear the content without moving to the cell. Below are the steps for setting the cells to be monitored, having them read and choosing one from a list. I am also including steps to have column or row titles spoken as you arrow through a worksheet. Some JAWS commands for Excel are also given below. Take care. Monitoring Cells 1.First move focus to L27. 2.Hold down the big insert key on the number pad along with the shift key and while holding those keys down press 1 on the numbers row. This sets monitoring to the current cell and numbers the monitoring action as 1. You can use insert with shift and 1-9 for the first nine monitor cells you set and then use insert with shift and 0 for the 10th cell being monitored. 3.From whatever point in the spreadsheet that has focus you can use Alt+Shift+1 to hear the content of the monitored cell, which in this case is L27. Set Monitor Cell: Use INSERT+SHIFT+1 through INSERT+SHIFT+0. Sets the monitoring on different cells. Monitor cells are used to observe an area of your spreadsheet as you work. Use INSERT+SHIFT+1 to INSERT+SHIFT+0 to assign up to 10 different cells. Note: If a monitor cell was previously set and you then try to set that cell again, a message appears letting you know that you are about to overwrite the existing monitor cell. You have the option to cancel or continue and overwrite the monitor cell. Read Monitor Cell: Use ALT+SHIFT+1 through ALT+SHIFT+0. Reads the monitor cell. Use Alt+Shift+1 to read monitor cell 1, Alt+Shift+2 for monitor cell 2, etc. List and move To Monitor Cell: Use CTRL+SHIFT+M. Lists the defined monitor cells for the current sheet. Use up or down arrow key to the one you want to move focus to and press enter key. HEARING CVOLUMN TITLES IN EXCEL You can use the Excel Naming Manager to have MaGic or JAWS read column titles to you in Microsoft Excel. 1.You first need to move the keyboard focus to the row containing the column headers. Use CTRL with G to launch the Go To dialog box. Type in the cell address, for example A13 if the column titles are on row 13 and start with column A. Press enter key to move to that position in the worksheet. 2.With the keyboard you can use the CTRL with function key 3 command to launch the naming manager. If you do that then skip to step 4. Otherwise, click on the Formula tab on the top part of the ribbon or use Alt key followed by M. 3.Click on “Name Manager” or press the letter N. 4.Click on the New button or press spacebar on the New button. If using the keyboard you might need to tab to the New button before pressing spacebar. 5.Type the following changing the cell addresses as required: ColumnTitle.a13..h13 There should be no spaces in what you type in this box. Capitalize the word column and the word title but do not leave spaces. The first period is for the beginning of the range of cells containing the column headings. The two periods together show the last cell in the range. If your column titles were on row 5 and went from column B to column F then you would type: ColumnTitle.b5..F5 6.Either click the OK button or use tab key until you find OK and press spacebar. 7.Either click the Close button or tab until you find the Close button and press spacebar. Note: Use the text RowTitle if you want row titles instead of column titles or just the word Title if you want both row and column titles. Remember that RowTitle or ColumnTitle is written as one word with capital letters used for the C or R and the T. R Command Descriptions for Excel Auto Sum: Use ALT+EQUALS. Automatically adds a group of user-defined cells. It puts you in an edit mode in a particular cell where you can define the cells to be summed. Close Office Assistant: Use CTRL+INSERT+F4. Closes the Office Assistant. Note: The Office Assistant is not available in Microsoft Office 2007 or later. Collapse Selection to Active Cell: Use SHIFT+BACKSPACE. Minimizes the highlighted area of the current selection down to the active cell. Column First Cell From Top: Use ALT+1. Reads the first cell in the current column. Note that this is a Table Layer keystroke. You must first press INSERT+SPACEBAR, followed by T to make the table layer active. You can then press ALT+1 to read the cell. Column Second Cell From Top: Use ALT+2. Reads the second cell in the current column. Note that this is a Table Layer keystroke. You must first press INSERT+SPACEBAR, followed by T to make the table layer active. You can then press ALT+2 to read the cell. Column Third Cell From Top: Use ALT+3. Reads the third cell in the current column. Note that this is a
