Windows 10 is fairly customisable, but I agree there are a lot of arguably
useless "features"/bells and whiistles, and they just keep adding more.
Fortunately, you can turn most of them off. In general I like my Windows 10
Enterprise because there are a lot of neat things you can do with it. I'm also
rediscovering the command line, and using Powershell to do hings that are just
less convenient than with the GUI. The JAWS cursor works when I need it, most
of the time. Sometimes I do have to fiddle around a bit, root JAWS to PC,
restore/maximize the window, etc, for it to be able to move around or read
anything. Also, I don't think it will work at all in the new Universal style
apps. This includes the Windows store. However, I find that I don't really use
any of them. I know Microsoft is pushing them hard, but desktop applications
have always worked well for me, and they're still being made, so I don't see
any reason to migrate. Most of those programs won't even close properly when
you hit alt-f4, and moving around on my desktop with the touch cursor is slow,
laggy and generally unpleasant.

and what I've learned most so far is that I don't like it! My not liking it is
probably more do to my lack of familiarity & knowledge of the operating system,

case of the Jaws cursor, I don't know if this is a Jaws problem, or the way
Windows 10 operates that doesn't allow the Jaws cursor to have the same
functionality as it did in past operating systems. When the Jaws cursor
doesn't give me what I want I try the touch cursor, & if that doesn't work I
try using the screen / window OCR.

I do not contest your solution but I just want to make sure that your problem
was similar to mine. My problem is specific when I change to the jaws cursor to
examine the screen then I hear blank, blank etc. instead of getting what
appears on the screen. It is therefore strange that a punctuation setting will
rectify this problem. Was your problem also related to using the jaws cursor to
examine the screen. I may just add that when this happens and I use the jaws

activate the jaws cursor I can not read anything. I shall try the touch cursor

The most important thing is not the monitor size, but its ability to display

the images on the screen will be, and there comes a point at which the text on

possible to push the resolution very high indeed, but if that monitor's pixel
density is not up to par, you won't get the maximum possible resolution before
the image becomes unreadable. In many cases the monitor will not display
anything at all, if you tell Windows to use a resolution the monitor cannot
handle.
In other words, don't expect miracles out of a cheap monitor. When it comes to

Simple explanation from the internet:

It is usually quoted as width × height, with the units in pixels: for
example, "1024 × 768" means the width is 1024 pixels and the height is 768
pixels.
This example would normally be spoken as "ten twenty-four by seven
sixty-eight" or "ten twenty-four by seven six eight".

The most important thing is not the monitor size, but its ability to
display the higher resolution images. The higher you set the resolution, the
smaller
the images on the screen will be, and there comes a point at which the text
on the screen becomes so small it's not readable. On a larger monitor it is
possible to push the resolution very high indeed, but if that monitor's
pixel density is not up to par, you won't get the maximum possible
resolution before
the image becomes unreadable. In many cases the monitor will not display
anything at all, if you tell Windows to use a resolution the monitor cannot
handle.
In other words, don't expect miracles out of a cheap monitor. When it comes
to high-definition displays, you definitely get what you pay for.

2018-04-07 Thread Fanus
Hello Mike
Thanks for the explanation but my question is then whether the onboard display
card has an effect. My problem is that irrespective of which screen resolution
I use most of the time the jaws cursor just says “blank, blank, blank”. So, is
this caused by the display which is too old or the onboard sound card. I shall
like to replace which ever to be able to use the jaws cursor properly. I use
Windows 10 with the latest version of jaws but this was the case with windows
8.1 as well.

Hi Justin,

First my non computer lingo crap explanation. Running Windows 7 & 10 Pro 64

I will use this particular example with System Restore. If you go into
System Restore, there's a checkbox that you need to check in order to see
more restore points than 1 or 2. If I have my screen resolution set very

it using the Jaws cursor. I know my settings are different than others, so

Hi Señor Rick,

Okay, I thought the default screen resolution was still in place for Windows
7 32 bit for the older versions of Jaws, especially with the older computers

experiment and hope that I'll get somewhat accurate results with Tandem, &
