Re: [JAWS-Users] outlook express 6
Hi Again Gary, 2 things I forgot to ask you taht are important with installing OE66. Did you run the OE6 installer as Administrator? This is a must! Also, what antivirus program are you running? Whoops 1 more thing, not to bag on computer brands, but if you're running an HP computer they seem to have more trouble with OE6 more so than any other brand. Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers! Re: [JAWS-Users] outlook express 6
Hi Gary, You can purchase your keys, 3 for $20, & download the installer from the website below: http://runasxp.com/Forum-Outlook-Express-6-for-Windows-7-8 You might have to sign up to his website to get the installer, but if you don't want to do that just say so, & I'll send you the latest installer & a spellchecker. I have to warn you that J2018 does not have any scripts for Outlook Express so Jaws ability to read everything you might be used to hearing in OE is somewhat limited, but I have some scritps that may or may not help. But, since you're running Windows 7, if you install Jaws 16, the last Jaws version to have OE scripts, your J16 latest & OE will get along pretty damn good, whoops, pretty gosh darn good! Take care. Re: [JAWS-Users] Outlook express is back. You bet it is!
Jaws does show Outlook Express scripts, but several functions don't work in the new version such as the shortcuts for alt-1 thru alt-6. I had to re-label the graphic 589 to unread and 139 to read. I haven't figured out how to get the shortcuts back. - Original Message - From: "George Martinez Sr" <ga.marti...@cox.net> To: <jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com> Sent: Saturday, September 23, 2017 4:13 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Outlook express is back. Re: [JAWS-Users] Outlook express is back. You bet it is!
Below is a list of files that appear to be necessary in the scriptin order for Jaws to function as it did in the last Microsoft supported version of Outlook Express. ;Script files for Outlook Express Version 5-6 ;Copyright 2005 by Freedom Scientific BLV Group, LLC ; build 6.20.31 05/10/05 DBrown include "hjconst.jsh" include "hjglobal.jsh" include "msoe.jsm" include "msoe.jsh" include "HjHelp.jsh" include "common.jsm" That being said, if these files appear in a later version of Jaws they would have to contain the same content otherwise it wouldn't work. Hi. Cool! I'm sending this message with OE on windows 10! Pretty nifty. I don't know if I'll keep using it or not, google makes it sound pretty insecure, I had to checka box allowing less secure apps before OE would work and they don't recommend that of course. That said, does anybody have a version of JAWS around that has the OE scripts and can zip them up for those of us who don't have an old version still installed on anything? - Original Message - From: "JM Casey" <crystallo...@ca.inter.net> To: <jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com> Sent: Saturday, September 23, 2017 11:28 AM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Outlook express is back. I have also done that annually when a new JAWS comes out. If you have the original Scripts exe program it is easy. The question is whether things in the program the scripts apply to has changed significantly. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. yes, it can be done although, you may need to recompile the scripts once installed with the script manager. Cant you just pull the OE scripts out of 16 and add them to 18? The scripts themselves arent version specific are they? From what I have read writing scripts is the same no matter what version of Jaws you are running. On 9/22/2017 6:47 PM, Mike B. wrote: Hi Loy, Using Jaws 16 with OE will probably give you your best results because they stripped out all OE scripts with the later versions of Jaws. Resolution To resolve this issue, rename the Folders.dbx file for the impacted identity and then start Outlook Express. This allows Outlook Express to rebuild a new Folders.dbx file. To rename and rebuild the Folders.dbx file: 1.. In Outlook Express, click Options on the Tools menu, and then click the Maintenance tab. 2.. Click Store Folder, and then make a note of the path to your Store folder on your disk drive. You cannot type in this box, but you can move through the box by using the left and right arrow keys on the keyboard. 3.. Locate the Store folder (you noted the path to the Store folder in step 2). 6.. Right-click the Folders.dbx file in this folder, and then click Rename on the shortcut menu. 7.. Re: [JAWS-Users] outlook express 6 with jaws 17
Hi Gary, If you look in the default scripts of Jaws 16 & earlier you'll see scripts for OE, but in Jaws 17 these scripts are not there. These are the scripts that are necessary for Jaws & OE to play together correctly. Adding those other scripts might help, but if they don't have default scripts to draw of of, I'm not sure how effective they'll be. My thinking may be way the hell off base, so if I'm way off target would someone please jump in & give the correct answer?! Take care. Mike Sent from my iBarstool. Hi Gary, That is because Jaws 17 doesn't have Outlook Express scripts, they have been removed in this version. Use Jaws 16 & earlier for best performance with OE. Take care. Re: [JAWS-Users] Outlook Express, options, finding advanced page, removing message from server
Thanks for your instructions. I found the page, and unchecked the box about leaving messages on the server. But, apparently this "fix" is not retroactive, because there are still thousands on the server, with 670 being unread. Is there a way to get those old messages off the server? For instance, if we elected to leave messages on the server, but choose for them to be deleted after 15 days? Then, would it delete all those prior to December 1 or 2? Strange problem. Logic would seem to say that unchecking that box would have taken off the messages that had been read. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks. Once highlighted, press alt+P for the properties dialog box, then control+tab to go to the Advanced tab. One thing I would recommend is to leave the copy of messages on the server, but check the box after that that says, "Remove from server when deleted from the 'deleted items' folder", this will ensure that she's got a copy of the messages she wants to keep or archive, but deletes the messages she doesn't want to keep when she clears her deleted items folder. Hi Dacia, What antivirus are you running? There are a couple of antivirus programs that will give OE problems unless you know how to tweak them. Did you run the installer as Administrator? Hi Carolyn, The biggest obstacle you will find is having to learn to navigate using the ribbons verses using menues, Outlook has a bunch more options that you don't find in Outlook Express. Re: [JAWS-Users] Outlook Express and Outlook.
Windows Live Mail is free, and is part of a suite of programs called Windows Live Essentials, which includes Mail, Writer, One Drive,Photo Gallery, and Movie Maker. You can choose which of these you want to install, and to me, Mail is the only one that I would have. I haven't used Outlook Express, but I do know that Windows Live Mail, when developed, was taken straight from the Outlook Express program. In fact, when you open your Inbox in Windows Live Mail, JAWS reads Outlook Express message list view. The web address for the download of Windows Live Essentials is: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-live/essentials The last version of this program is 2012, but it is still a very good suite of stuff. Hi Again Gary, Also you can try 1 or both of the following: Go to the message list, press, Alt + E, for the edit menu and find the mark as unread choice press enter on it. Or, From the message list press, ctrl+shift+O, for the Options tabs press, ctrl+tab to get into the Read Tab, uncheck the 'mark message as read after displaying for' checkbox by pressing spacebar, tab to okay press enter to save close options. Hi Mike, I tried the things you have suggested with no luck. The mark as unread option is unavailable in the edit menu. I imagine so because the message is already unread. I'm thinking that it must be some display problem keeping jaws from reading the read/ unread status. Any ideas? Gary - Original Message - From: Mike B.
