[valgrind] [Bug 385843] [PATCH] ARM: mark caller-save VFP registes as trashed by calls
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=385843 --- Comment #5 from Ivo Raisr--- Your fix touches register allocation. It is crucial that both ARMInstr_Call() and getRRegUniverse_ARM() are kept in sync (hinted in getRRegUniverse_ARM as well) and that register allocator is presented with the workable set of registers. By marking all Q ones as caller saved (trashed for call), register allocator would need to spill them all before the call. This creates a performance penalty and bloats the generated r-code. Would you try running Memcheck on a program which uses 128-bit VFP (q) registers with '--stats=yes' and note the difference on 'ratio' reported? How prevalent are programs utilizing 128-bit VFP registers compared to 64-bit ones? In other words, are compilers (gcc) likely to utilize those registers a lot? A clue for your answer might lie in the document you cited first: "Registers s16-s31 (d8-d15, q4-q7) must be preserved across subroutine calls; registers s0-s15 (d0-d7, q0-q3) do not need to be preserved (and can be used for passing arguments or returning results in standard procedure-call variants). Registers d16-d31 (q8-q15), if present, do not need to be preserved." -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

Callee > saved registers are preferred over caller saved ones. The callee-save registers are used up for S and D registers (which alias with the Q registers). https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=376966 --- Comment #20 from Silver Salonen--- One additional weird nuance - on startup both KWallet and Gnome Keyring are asking for input (the latter because of Skype). Even if KWallet is focused then keyboard input does not work until I haven't inserted password for Keyring. Also it seems that keyboard input does not work within the whole environment, eg. The attached patch makes the issue disappear. The issue depends on how valgrind is built. With the right combination of compiler and compiler flags (e.g. using -mfpu=neon makes a difference here with GCC 7.2.0), the helper functions in memcheck/mc_main.c end up using the same (caller-save) VFP registers as used by VEX. According to http://infocenter.arm.com/help/topic/com.arm.doc.ihi0042f/IHI0042F_aapcs.pdf (§5.1.2.1 VFP register usage conventions): VFP registers d16-d31 (q8-q15), if present, do not need to preserved (by the callee). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[plasmashell] [Bug 355935] Font kerning is incorrect
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=355935 Christoph Feckchanged: What|Removed |Added Status|UNCONFIRMED |RESOLVED Resolution|--- |UPSTREAM --- Comment #45 from Christoph Feck --- Investigation with source references: - The Plasma text components have no explicit code to position individual glyphs; the complete 'text' string is used in the QtQuick.Text elements which QtQuick renders [1]. - Aurorae does not use Plasma components for the caption; it uses QtQuick Text elements directly [2]. Given the above investigations, if QtQuick text is rendered wrong, it is an upstream bug, either in QtQuick, or even deeper in the stack (fontconfig, freetype, or even OpenGL drivers). Additional remarks: - If changing fonts forth and back makes a difference, it could also be related to bugs in fontconfig caching. We had related bugs, especially with programs that are started very early, since the fontconfig caches were introduced. - If you use an 'xsettings' daemons, the font properties might additionally get treatment during the startup procedure. Applications that are started before the daemon runs might behave differently than applications that are started after. - Regarding the issue that we had with Qt4 and the native X11 backend vs. the raster backend: That was a limitation of the X11 libraries, not able to position glyphs on subpixel position, but the placement and kerning was changed in Qt4 raster backend to support those. As indicated above, X11 libraries are no longer used to render text. - QtQuick has two text modes: one that uses the same rasterization that is also used for QWidget, the other that uses special OpenGL calls. It is possible that QtQuick when using OpenGL texts could have similar restrictions as with X11 libraries regarding subpixel placement, but you would have to ask QtQuick developers if this is indeed the case. Plasma labels always force the 'desktop' type rendering (QWidget-compatible), unless it is a 'mobile' (phone) platform. This is what Total Commander and Double Commander do by default; Midnight Commander also unselects files after the operations; Krusader 2.4 and Norton Commander did the same. - Optionally, if there are enough people that want that their files are still selected after their operations, then a setting could be: [x] Unselect files after copy (though any similar setting wasn't seen in Total Commander nor Double Commander nor Midnight Commander). This is also important because nowadays: files are still selected after a copy operation, and so normally users have to unselect those files later, which is annoying (*). (*) That would be solved nowadays if users set "Unselect files before copy/move" to true, but it would also have that effect nowadays: unwanted unselected files after a drag Thanks for your attention :-) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=385815 Andres Bettschanged: What|Removed |Added CC||anditosan1...@gmail.com --- Comment #4 from Andres Betts --- I think we can definitively (AKA me) add that to the design. Right now I am not considering using thick borders around images such as wallpapers, icon packs, emoticons (Should we call them emoji's now?) or others. That way the image takes the center stage. So the border line I am using right now is just a 1PX in a light gray. I could make that also somewhat transparent so that the line around an image is toned down by the dark background. Does that make sense? Let me know if that would be a good direction I can take. Thank you, Andy -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
