[lace] The dress has finally been used!

2012-04-09 Thread Carol
Around a year ago I posted a picture of the baby christening dress I
had made some years back, 1992 - 1997, designed by Veronica Sorensen
and in her book Modern Lace Designs. The dress has languished in the
drawer (wrapped in acid free tissue paper and unbleached muslin) all
these years, occasionally coming out for a brief showing at a Lace
Day. Today, Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012, the dress was finally
used as it was intended. My granddaughter Amelia Caroline was
baptized and she wore the dress. What a lovely 13 day old baby girl
she is... I've posted 2 pictures of her wearing the lace dress on
webshots. Pictures 2 and 3.

2012-04-09 Thread jeanette
That certainly turned out to be a worthwhile effort - both making the dress
and waiting for the baby! Both are beautiful. Wonderful to see such a
lovely dress being used.
A member of our Guild made a matinee jacket when her own children were
teenagers already. When the jacket was finished she wrapped it and gave it
to herself for Christmas!! Her children were not amused at all!! It gave
the Guild members a good laugh though.

The dress and baby look beautiful. What pretty names the parents have given
their daughter - most suitable for one who was to wear such an elaborate
dress.

As someone who has an aversion to babies (you can't have an intelligent
conversation with them and they just eat, sleep, cr*p and cry), I have to
admit that the dress is really set off by having a baby's head on top of it.
A lovely family heirloom for future generations. Great job.

[lace-chat] Borrowing film and card

2012-04-09 Thread Sue Duckles
Afternoon all

Now does anyone have any idea what the Borrowers were using my pricking card
and blue film for?? Off on a Lace Weekend in a few weeks and I need to get the
pattern pricked and the bobbins wound. Yesterday I went looking for my blue
film and card in the cupboard where I knew it was... It was NOT!!!

Searched for an hour last night before giving up this morning I decided to
get the bobbin winder out of the cupboard (yes, the same one) and there was
the card and film!!! Oh, and the winder was there exactly where I knew it
would be

My DH says that it 'just popped out of existence' yesterday think he's been
watching too much sci-fi I much prefer the puzzle of what the borrowers
were using it for

Any ideas??

Re: [lace-chat] Borrowers???

2012-04-09 Thread lacelady
Are you sure you do not have a resident ghost? When that happened at our
business, the employees always blamed the ghost. He loved to play tricks on
them, taking things then putting them back right in the middle of the work
table. And..Yes...We DID have a ghost. It was seen by several people. My DH
saw it clear enough and often enough to describe him and his clothes, and was
able to track down in local history his identity.

Meanwhile... I don't have a ghost at home, and I'm also missing my new
double-sided tape. What *must* the borrowers be doing with all that tape?

Alice in Oregon... having had a lovely sunny Easter weekend (I'm so tired of
rain) and looking forward to a lace meeting tonight.

I am always having something take legs so to speak and then suddenly appear
out of the blue in the same place I originally checked for it and couldn't
find it. VERY old house so yeah could be the ghosts of my grandparents,
great grandparents or even my mum...maybe just to let me know they are
paying attention?

Always found it rather odd since when it is FOUND it is blatantly obvious
and you could never have accidently missed seeing it the first time. My
son says gremlins

I sort of like your husband's version...that is very likely...I love physics
and I would say it sort of popped into another dimension then back again.
There are theories out there by some very learned physics professors that it
could very well be...in fact we may be popping in and out of this Universe
off and on too. Sure would explain a few things.

2012-04-09 Thread Liz and Ken Roberts
So that is where my mind goes when I get absent minded! Sometimes I think I
forgot it somewhere else.
Could be I'm the one popping in and out and misplacing my things in that
other dimension.
The nice thing about losing things for a long period of time is that when I
finally find them, they are new to me
all over again. (I don't see how the Borrowers could carry off my old Minnie
Pearl banjo uke, but who knows?
Maybe some of them are living in it?)
