Re: [lace] RE: participation in Lace conferences - flights
- Original Message - From: Witchy Woman wytchy...@sbcglobal.net Check out flights that have more than one stop, with one stop being your actual destination.. Sometimes you'll find that booking a 1 stop flight from Cleveland to San Francisco is a lot cheaper than a flight from Cleveland to Salt Lake City. -- There's a problem with that--if you don't complete your flight all the way to San Francisco, the airlines often cancel your ticket. In other words, you won't be able to board your return flight at Salt Lake City. An alternative would be to book two one-way flights, one from home to San Francisco, the other from Salt Lake City to somewhere beyond home. However, one 1-way ticket can be a lot more money than a round trip! Two 1-way tickets would be ridiculously expensive. Robin P. [lace] Lace Guild magazine - hurrah for Arachne!
Thanks to all who took the trouble to reply to my query. As you will have seen Jane Partridge's post explains all. I will continue to harass the postman (lol). [lace] Pam Mattioli's pattern
Thank you all who replied to my question about where to buy the butterfly pattern. I emailed Antje, the editor of Vuelta y Cruz, and wanted to buy the magazine from her, but I am still waiting for a reply. Of course I was not looking for a copied pattern â it never even occurred to me that anyone would think that. I suppose my English is not good enough! Thanks again for your kind help! [lace] RE: participation in Lace conferences - flights
In these super-twitchy days as well, if you leave a flight early would you then be under suspicion of leaving something (eg explosive) behind on the plane? Here, with rail travel, if you buy a cheaper ticket to somewhere else and stop (or start) short, your ticket becomes invalid and you have to pay the full price plus often a fine on top of what you have already paid. Several families have found this to their cost. [lace] Lepoglava lace
Home today...neck is doing the nasty painful thing it sometimes does. Laying on the couch with an ice bag watching youTube videos on lacemaking. Saw a wonderful video on Croatian laces... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JuMHTNeUDrI I was very much taken with the Lepoglava lace and did an internet search. Found this page... http://www.lacecorner.com/lepoglava/photo_gallery.aspx Does anyone know if there are any pattern books out there for this type of lace? There are a few patterns on the page above that I would love to try. I wasn't able to find anything. [lace] Lace Convention flights
The big problem with getting off the plane at a midpoint stop is that your checkthrough luggage will not get off the plane with you. I can't imagine an attendee at a lace convention making do with only what's in her carryon. Those things don't necessarily arise to the surface when first considered. But there it is. Lyn in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA, where the sun is supposed to shine for the weekend, which is good, because I'm camping near the Maryland Sheep and Wool, taking a class in Estonian knitted lace, and camping at a state park for 3 nights. Actually that was covered in the article, including the advice not to try it too often with the same airline and what to say to the authorities in order to avoid being charged with fraud. It sounds a little too dicey for my tastes. Devon - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. Re: [lace] Lepoglava lace
Yes, there is at least one book on Lepoglava lace. Paperback titled Tape Lace from Lepoglava by Nel de la Bie, Tonny Haas and Hanneke Troost. Thanks for the web sites. I have the book and never got farther than just looking at it. Maybe now I will be inspired enough to try it. Re: [lace] Lace Convention flights
If you arrange with the hotel, they will hold packages for you. I used to travel quite a lot and i just shipped stuffs ahead that i could not fit on carry-on. I did this before 9/11 so i don't know why it would not work now. even your pillow can go on ahead. just a thought. [lace] Need help with Brigitte Bellon pattern
I'm making a second attempt at the third pattern in Brigittle Bellon's Kloppelmuster Fur Schals Und Tischlaufer. The first time around I got the pattern started and figured it out until I turned to go back and attach the lace as I went on that part of pattern. There I got stuck. Since I had some other deadlines coming up I cut it off the pillow and set every thing aside for a while. Now I want to go back and master what stopped me before. First question, Is there a translation of the book anywhere? I've used Google translate for bits and pieces, but that can be more amusing that accurate most of the time. Second question, Is there a working diagram for the patterns? That would help a lot. Or does someone have some suggestions or hints. For me it's hard to figure out where the pairs go in the beginning by just looking at a color picture of the completed lace. For now it's back to more trial and error at getting started again. -- Vila Cox Warped Wonderful http://www.warpedandwonderful.com http://www.facebook.com/pages/Warped-Wonderful-Handwoven-Treasures/241360532566599 - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. Re: [lace] RE: participation in Lace conferences - flights
It would work if you only have only carry-on luggage. If you check a suitcase, it would not come off at the midway stop. Or you could mail your luggage ahead. I usually have too much stuff for a week of lace classes to fit in a carry-on. And... I have to allow room for the things I acquire during the week. Yes it would work, at the check in say you are getting off at the first stop on your way through to the final destination. And you simply do not do the second part of your trip.
