Paula,

You have already had two replies to this question, one from myself the other

specific and gives a solution.

 Subject: Blank citation in endnotes

I am getting some blank citations in the end notes to my Ancestor Book
report. The # of the blank citation is not used anywhere in the report as
far as I can tell. It happens on the first citation sometimes, but also on
citations throughout the list. Has anyone experienced this problem and
discovered its source? It seems like a data problem to me, but I don't know
 where to start looking.

Following is copy of what I sent in to Legacy, just fyi.

 Thanks in advance,
 --Paula in Texas

 Ancestor book

 Report options

 Sources tab

 Print source citations

As endnotes at the end of the book

Do NOT combine into one paragraph

 Indent first line

Include surety level (nothing else checked to include)

A few of the sources print as just the number in the end notes list.

For the blank sources in the list, the number is not used anywhere in the
report, as best as I can tell.

Happens on first source and/or on sources in the middle of the list.
Haven't seen it on the last source, but it's probably data-dependent.

 Good morning

Please excuse me if this isn’t the correct forum for
 this email.

I have been using Legacy for the past few years and have
been extremely happy with the programme. I am using Legacy 7 and regularly
check for upgrades. I am using Windows Vista.

Today I opened my file to discover that when I click on one
of the children in one of my families (A) – I am taken to a totally
different individual (B) with no links whatsoever to the first person (A).

I have opened the “Name List” window and can
select the individual from that window (A)– the correct parents etc are
shown in the right-hand window but Spouse information for person B is shown.
When I “Select” person A from this window – I am taken to
person B with no connection to person A at all.

Person A never married and I have no marriage links at all
for them. When I go into Person B directly – there is no common
information or link to Person A.

These two people are from totally different branches –
totally different names – no connection at all.

I have a backup copy of my data but this has shaken my
confidence in the programme – I’m not sure now how widespread this
problem might be – I have over 3,000 individuals in my file.

Has anyone else experienced this type of issue – any suggestions
 for fixing it?

 Regards

What exactly do you mean by Legacy doesn't recognize?

I have just entered the name Józefa both as a name and into Notes in my
test file and Legacy was quite happy. It didn't recognize the name
when I did a spellcheck, but accepted my addition to the user

I am using de luxe Legacy 7, latest update.

I used Alt+0243 for the o with acute accent, but I used various other
accented letters and symbols, such as a Capital O with acute and a

Alt codes or paste the required letter from Character Map.

[LegacyUG] Descendent Book Report

2009-06-03 Thread Ruth Nerud
Goodness me! the current version Legacy 7.0.0.90 still has problems with the
Descendent Book Report. If I look at a preview of the report or PDF, it's
fine, but if I create a RTF, this is what happens:

No blank lines between main data and general notes or events
No blank line after notes/events and list of children
The words: Children from this marriage were: (or variations of this
sentence) are missing in RTF

Alternate names do not appear in the Index

Has anyone else noticed these problems? If the report is correct in the
preview, but not in RTF, I'm pretty sure it's not something I've checked
incorrectly.

Re: [LegacyUG] Descendent Book Report

2009-06-03 Thread Brian/Support

Ruth,

The problems with the Indexing of AKA's as well as the missing Children
of ... sentences are documented in our problem reporting system. Note:
The Wording 1 tab also includes the preamble for Events for the person
and the marriage. Those are also missing in RTF reports and might
explain why there is no line between the main data and the list of events.

I was not able to confirm the problem with no blank line between the
main data and general notes. When I tested the report there was a blank
line for those people who had general notes.

[LegacyUG] BOOK FORMAT QUESTIONS

2009-06-03 Thread Nina K. Johnson
When making a book, the names change at the top of the screen to the last
person I've gone to on the main Legacy screen. Is this right? Sometimes I
forget to change it. What difference does it make?

New pictures I just put in from the Picture Center started duplicating again
in the book. I called the book showing photo 2 as a title so I can get to
the problem. The other book, Richard Ashby Johnson b 1927, only shows one
picture of my husband. Has it got something to do with the number of
pictures I show on a page? And where do I get to that (I forget easily?
What am I not understanding?

Also, could someone tell me HOW I get the individual picture screen to show
up to 25 pictures (cannot remember that either)? I have looked at the
Picture CD many times.

IDEA: Could the title of the book show somewhere on the Publishing Center
Page? I have about four now. It seems to take a long time to go back to
the SAVE AS page. How does that work?

You can get everything on the list to work in Notes, using the zero for the

Re: [LegacyUG] Re: Estern European characters in name and place fields

2009-06-03 Thread RICHARD SCHULTHIES

Do you mean, that o and ó should not alphabetized together, as happens when
found in 'English' setups. I use the Swedish language, which puts the 3 extra
letters at the end, and not intermixed with a and o. Until the first Cyrillic
list is added to Legacy, it will be a painful wait. Before finding L5, my
previous programs did not understand it either. Even before the Swedish 'forms'
were added, it worked.
Hope it comes soon, I need it for Polish, Russian, and Lithuanian also.

What exactly do you mean by Legacy doesn't recognize?

I have just entered the name Józefa both as a name and

happy.   It didn't recognize the name when I
did a spellcheck, but accepted my addition to the user
 dictionary.

I am using de luxe Legacy 7, latest update.

I used Alt+0243 for the o with acute accent, but I used
various other accented letters and symbols, such as a
Capital O with acute and a thorn.  No problems.
As I said before, it works whether I type in the Alt codes
or paste the required letter from Character Map.

I exited Legacy and reopened it. I clicked on Tools then Picture

they are C:\ then Legacy then BackGrnd.

Strictly speaking, you are seeing just *one* open folder, which is
  C:\Legacy\BackGrnd.

Looking at that little screen (after clicking browse) double-click on
Legacy. You will then see a list of all the folders within the Legacy
folders. Scroll down to the one named Pictures, double-click on it to
  open it.

As you have no pictures in Legacy yet, you will not see any in there,
but when you do add some, that is where they will be if you put them in
  the usual place.

It is perfectly acceptable to keep pictures in any folder or several and
have Legacy access them, but it keeps life simple (especially if you are
fairly new to Legacy and/or computers) if you keep them all in that
  default place.

(On my computer, I have quite a complex structure of folders and
subfolders with all my genealogy photographs sorted by family, but all
the ones I want to show within Legacy I have made copies of (often
smaller than the original) and have the copies in C:\Legacy\Pictures.
That way, there is only one place for Legacy to look and only one place
for me to look if anything goes wrong, but I can always get a fresh copy
  of a photo if necessary.)

I think Ron has already answered this, but not sure if you got it. In
the Picture Center, middle column, there's a Browse button. The list
you're looking at here are pictures used in Legacy and should left
there. There's other folders in the Legacy installation containing other
pictures used in Legacy (like backgrounds and what-nots for web page
creation and other stuff.) You can use the Browse button to ... you
know, browse... to any folder location you want. Generally, we'd be
wanting to go to where our personal pictures are so we can link them up
  to our people there.

Nina, choose ONE location for the pictures you want linked to
   Legacy. I
don't know how your situation can be so confused except that you
   have or
had pictures linked from all over the place, and probably
   duplicated by
linking to them from more than one place. Make one copy, name
   them the
way you want them and put them into one folder, either
   Legacy/Pictures
or somewhere else, your choice. If you link your pictures from
   multiple
locations, of course you're going to have duplicates!

Today I opened my file to discover that when I click on one of the
children in one of my families (A) - I am taken to a totally different
individual (B) with no links whatsoever to the first person (A).

I have opened the Name List window and can select the individual
from that window (A)- the correct parents etc are shown in the
right-hand window but Spouse information for person B is shown. When I
Select person A from this window - I am taken to person B with no
connection to person A at all.

Person A never married and I have no marriage links at all for them.
When I go into Person B directly - there is no common information or
 link to Person A.

These two people are from totally different branches - totally
different names - no connection at all.

I have a backup copy of my data but this has shaken my confidence in
the programme - I'm not sure now how widespread this problem might be
 - I have over 3,000 individuals in my file.

Has anyone else experienced this type of issue - any suggestions for
 fixing it?

Re: [LegacyUG] BOOK FORMAT QUESTIONS

2009-06-03 Thread Jenny M Benson

Nina K. Johnson wrote
When making a book, the names change at the top of the screen to the
last person I've gone to on the main Legacy screen. Is this right?

Yes, quite normal. All reports default to the person or couple on the
screen when you open the Report menu.

Sometimes I forget to change it. What difference does it make?

Whenever you select a Report to form a new chapter for your book it will
be based on the person showing as Current Person or the couple showing
as Current Couple. You may want the same person as the focus for every
chapter of the book, but you may not so you need to select the right
person or couple accordingly.

New pictures I just put in from the Picture Center started duplicating
again in the book. I called the book showing photo 2 as a title so I
can get to the problem.

As requested before, you need to say where they are appearing and how
your book is made up. For example, what chapters/reports have you
included? Are the duplicates appearing all in the same chapter or in
different ones?

Could it be that you have selected 2 different reports which both
include the same picture. For example, you might make a book which
includes 2 chapters which both include Joe Bloggs and his photo will
appear in both chapters

The other book, Richard Ashby Johnson b 1927, only shows one picture
of my husband. Has it got something to do with the number of pictures I
show on a page?

I wouldn't have thought so.

And where do I get to that (I forget easily? What am I not
understanding?

Do you mean in a Picture Scrapbook as a chapter in a book? If so, it's
Edit Settings for Current Chapter... then Options.

If you are finding it difficult to remember how to do things, why not
write down the steps you take each time you do something new, such as
create a book? If you find something goes wrong you can change your
steps a little next time and once you have a set of instructions which
work you can keep them to use next time.

Thanks for letting us dummies know what to look for in the archives. Not
knowing what the heck VB6 meant until you mentioned it. I still don't know
what VB.Net is. But I looked in the archives for VB6, and at least know
what that is. I realize this upgrade may be a long time in coming, because
Sherry emailed me to wait for Legacy 7 for all the accents to be available,
but I guess not...

I know they have a lot to do, but this has been an issue for quite a while.
More so if they are serious about foreign versions.

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy 7 - question re software corruption

2009-06-03 Thread Cathy Vallevieni

Tim:

Per your request for a repost of my problem and
Dennis' solution, here they are.

My original problem:

I have never changed a RIN. I have changed MRINS.

When I view the INDEX, I show up as my maiden
name and as my married name correctly as RIN #1.
I also show up for my married name as RIN #8
which is my husband's grandfather with all of his
information in all columns except the name column
(his grandfather also correctly shows up as RIN
#8). I.E. #1 is my maiden name and my married
name (correct). RIN #8 is my married name
(incorrect) and my husband's grandfather
(correct). When I double click my listing for the
incorrect RIN #8, my husband's grandfather pops on the screen.

The same situation has occurred for my husband's
grandmother (correctly RIN #7 for married and
maiden name) whose married name also shows as RIN
#2 which is my husband with all of his
information in all columns except the name column
(my husband also correctly shows up as RIN #8).
When I double click my husband's grandmother's
listing for the incorrect RIN #2, my husband pops on the screen.

The same situation has occurred for my husband's
aunt (correctly RIN #11 married and maiden name)
whose married name also shows as RIN #3 which is
my father with all of his information in all
columns except the name column (my father also
correctly shows up as RIN #3). When I double
click my husband's aunt's listing for the
incorrect RIN #3, my father pops on the screen.

The three errors occurred with RIN 1 (me), 2 (my
husband) and 3 (my father) and only for the married name of the women.

These errors also show up when using the SEARCH function.

Any ideas how to correct these 3 additional
assigning of incorrect RIN #s for the married names of the 3 women?

Dennis' solution:

Cathy and I have (sort of) resolved this off list. I thought I would
post the solution for anyone else that sees this problem.

I took a look at Cathy's tblNX. tblNX contains, among other things, the
married names. Her tblNX married names were all dorked up. I suggested
she turn off married names, then turn them back on. This caused the
married names to be regenerated and solved her immediate problem.

The bigger question remains ... what dorked it up in the first place?
Was there a bug at one point that later got fixed? If so, shouldn't the
new release have rebuilt the married names? Or is there still a bug out
there?
