Once you added a letter to the field User ID, you changed the type from
number to text. Text will sort differently than numbers and I have
yet to find any way to change it. (For all the experts out there waiting
to jump in with a more precise technical correction, I know I
simplified it but that is all that is needed for this issue. ;-)

And if you use only numbers in the User ID field they will always sorted as
text. The User ID field is a text field, independed from the contents. The
RIN-field is a number field and therefore sorted as numbers.

I did not get Elizabeth's original post (because it was not in
plain/text). But I will think about modifying LTools to pad the RIN/MRIN
with leading zeroes when used in a User ID.

But first I need to get outside and plow the driveway!

As I said, I simplified it. A number in a text field alone will sort as
a number. A number with appended text will sort as text. Legacy may be
able to create a condition to sort by the number only portion but the
amount of programming for that is not justified overall until all the
bugs are corrected and the more important enhancements instituted.

Sorry for not using plain text - I have just got a gmail address and
didn't realise it wasn't using plain text. I trust this message is
all right?

Now I understand why it sorts like that - but it would be helpful if
you could do this.

2009-02-04 Thread RICHARD SCHULTHIES
I have been following this discussion, but I am confused what you actually want
to happen. Are you wanting the program to add the '0's in after the H with the
correct quantity, to make all examples to use the same length of characters,
example: H1, H05432, H30012?
