Yes, you can create as many types of events as you like or create one such as
meeting actions lump them together.

Re: [LegacyUG] MS Surface RT tablet

2012-12-29 Thread Sherry/Support
The answer is a simple no. The Surface Pro is supposed to be able
to run regular Windows programs but the RT is a crippled version of
Windows and will only run programs specifically programmed for it.

I have yet to find *any* genealogy database apps for the newer Windows
mobile devices.

Re: [LegacyUG] re multimedia files

2012-12-29 Thread unique64 Riley
Donna,

I just copied all my Legacy files to a new computer. After I downloaded Legacy
and restored my family file on the new computer, I went into my original
multimedia files,(on the old computer) under the C drive, Legacy Folder, and
Pictures Folder, (I had Vista and Windows 7 so this is where I kept them). I
then opened each sub folder in my pictures folder and copied the whole lot of
pics.  I then pasted them into the new computers folder, in the same places;
drive C, Legacy, Pictures, etc. so they were in exactly the same place as the
old computer, (the path would be exactly the same). This process took me less
than 5 minutes and everything is fine. I don't know about Windows 8, but if
you can put copy and paste them in exactly the same place they were on your old
computer it would work.

I hope this helps you. Good luck!

  Brian,

I followed your advice and it didn’t work all the way. I got it on the USB
drive, but the program still didn’t recognize all the files. It wants me to do
it one by one. No that is going to take forever, plus it is renaming them
slightly, adding $ in between a lot. I definitely have done something in error
I am assuming. Any other suggestions. Plus why do I have to go to the
Archives to receive my messages?

The “%20” are spaces when viewed by a browser. There are Pro’s and Con’s in
using spaces in file names. I tend NOT to use them

One should NOT use any periods within the file name. The period is used to
separate the file name from the file type extension on a PC .

This long file naming is going to get you in deep dodo. The maximum file path
on a PC is 255 characters, BUT, when burning to a CD or DVD the maximum path is
124 characters.

The “[1]” means that there is also more than on file with this same name in the
same folder

Not sure what “FilesContent.EI5\CVXWPM2R\U.S.%20Census “ is based on. Where did
it come from?

Are you renaming these files within Legacy or Windows Explorer?

My file names have now become very complex and I will be unable to locate them.
 An example is
FilesContent.EI5\CVXWPM2R\U.S.%20Census%20Pike%20County,%20Missouri,%20Prairieville%20twp,%20Eolia%20village%20outskirts,%20James%20C.%20Johnson%20William%20A.%20Akers%20households[1].jpg
It should have been 1900 U.S. Census Pike County, Missouri, Prairieville
twp, Eolia village outskirts, James C. Johnson, William A. Akers households. I
was trying to follow the method that Geoff was teaching. Now it is really
messed up. I don’t was to have to go through and redo every one, and I
especially don’t want the new filing designation.

Re: [LegacyUG] Unable to link a Source to the correct Event

2012-12-29 Thread Mark Lang
Doyce,

When you do a standard uninstall, not everything is removed from the
Legacy install directory - your Legacy Customer number for starters,
so when you reinstalled the new download program, it would have
installed to the same directory, and the program would have picked up
your customer licence number. To uninstall completely, you need to
first save all necessary files to another location (that is if you
keep your family file and photos etc in the program directory, any
usr settings etc) then when after you uninstall from the control
panel uninstall a program, you have to physically go into
MyComputer and delete the remaining program folder that Legacy was
installed in. This folder is not removed in the uninstall process.
Then when you reinstall Legacy using the install program, it will
recreate the directory, install Legacy, and when you start Legacy,
you will be required to re-input your customer number.

 Kind Regards, Mark

  Thanks David,

I did finally figure out that the %20 meant a space, just took me a while to
reason it out in my head. Yes my file names are probably too long, I will have
to work on that.

  Monique,

I did as you suggested, after I messed up a little. And it worked like a
charm. Had to go back in and change the file names of the ones that came up
with the weird names but got it done in Picture Center.

I still can’t figure out why I am not getting the list messages in my email.
Going to the Archives is a bit of a pain. Anyone have a suggestion as to what
is wrong?

  Thanks for your help.
