We use Open Office at our Family History Center.  The documents and 
spreadsheets have so far been easily edited back and forth with Microsoft 
Office.  Sorry to have gone so off topic from Legacy.

That said, I did not attempt to save Legacy as a Word document.  The 
history I wrote of my grandparents was 122 pages and included many 
photos.  It was written as a narrative.


I did add family group sheets and a pedigree chart, and a chronology 
at the end in the appendices generated by Legacy and had no problem 
with them.


Before writing another history, I'll explore

WordPerfect.  I've also had great success with Legacy's Ancestor Book 
and appreciate the fact that events and photographs added to Legacy 
appear magically in the document.

I am glad that you have had no issue with Word.  My experience was extremely 
frustrating and not unusual based on my contact with BYU Press, which was 
printing my book.  I've worked with Word since 1993 both professionally and at 
home and am very familiar with it.  No problem until working on this large 
manuscript.  After each careful reading of the document before submission for a 
proof and each reading after the proof brought up new errors.  WordPerfect is 
more stable and much easier to work with, especially with added photographs.  I
