Re: [LegacyUG] Book Printing

2019-10-09 Thread Cathy Pinner

Trevor,

Look at the Report Options for the particular book you are wanting to
create.

Click the Report Options button
On the Include tab you'll find Addr. ...
On the Notes tab you'll find checkboxes for these notes.

However, you can't include vital event pictures in a book.
They are included, if chosen, in an Individual report or Family group
report.
If you want them auto added to a book, you need to link them to a custom
event instead.

Hi

That is good to hear. The Compact, ignore my earlier email, should not
remove any information. All that it does is to compress the various
tables to recover space that had been used by deleted entries.

Basically, Access never overwrites space that had been used by deleted
records. It always just adds new data at the end.

I would not normally expect to use Compress unless I had been deleting
a lot of records.

Re: [LegacyUG] migrating to new computer

2019-10-09 Thread Cathy Pinner

Jim,

If you are taking the opportunity of upgrading from Legacy 7.5 to Legacy
9 as you switch computer and you haven't been linking media, that's a
great plan.

Restoring a backup is the easiest way to change to a new computer as
well as the easiest way to upgrade from 7.5 to Legacy 9. As part of the
restore process you'll get a message about needing to do a file
conversion so Legacy 9 can read the file. That's nothing to stress about.

However it would be best to do a File Maintenance - Check/Repair of your
file on your old computer first.
Make one backup, do the Check/Repair and then make a new backup to use
on the new computer.

Been a long time since I needed to change computers, so want to
confirm my "plan".
On the old computer with Legacy 7.5,  I will do a Back Up of my
current data file, to a Thumb drive, renaming the Back Up. "New Family
File (date)".
On the new computer, I will install Legacy 9.  Open it and select
Restore Family File, then navigate to my Thumb drive and select the
"New Family File (date)".
I have not been linking multi media files to my current family file on
Legacy 7.5, so should not need to worry about those files needing to
be moved.

Is this the right way to do it?
Anything else?
TIA,  Jim

Re: [LegacyUG] Running compact family file

2019-10-09 Thread Chris Hill
Hi

This should only take a few minutes. If half of the dialog is missing then
you should be able to drag it back into vision. Then see if there is a
button waiting for a response.

Do you have a current backup, which you should always do before running
Check/Repair. If so, restore that and run the Check/Repair again. If you
get an error messages - write them down and then go to the Legacy support
site to see if it is a known issue. If not then raise an issue with them.
