Re: [linux-usb-devel] Pontis SP600 + 2.4.20 = kernel panic

2003-06-15 Thread joschua10
The message appears when I mount and unmount the drive:
Device not ready. Make sure there is a disc in the drive.
Do you think its a problem by the firmware?
I want use the device because its a cheap one and the vendor told to fix the
uncorrect file problem.

Thank you, Joschua

I don't know; I didn't keep a copy of the kernel logs you sent.

But if the device doesn't work right and you can't rely on it to store
your files correctly, why do you want to hook it up to your computer at
 all?

Yes, you are right, I used kernel 2.4.20. The last days I tried to
 reproduce
the problem with 2.4.21-rc3 but I failed. It 2.4.21-rc3 seems to be
 fixed in
  that version. :-)
But I have another problem also with 2.4.21-rc3. The data I transmit to
 the
device gets corrupt. If I copy clean, self-build mp3's to the device I
 listen
some CLICK. If I copy programs or other files to the device and try to
 use
them later, they are damaged. PONTIS the vendor confirmed this problem
 with
some configurations of chipset and driver. My question: is it possible
 to
write a workaround in the Linux-USB driver for this problem?

Not without some pretty specific information from the vendor explaining
the source of the problem and how to work around it. Is there any
 possibility you could obtain that?

2003-06-10 Thread joschua10
Hi Alan,
I asked the vendor for information. They told me the problem has to be fixed
in the firmware and not in the driver. The fix should be avaible in the
next time. So nothing left to do...

Thank you alot for your help!
Good bye, Joschua

 Joschua:

Although you didn't say what version of the kernel you were running, the
log you just sent must have been from 2.4.20. Try sending a log from
 2.4.21-rc1 or anything more recent.

 better with your device.

[linux-usb-devel] Pontis SP600 + 2.4.20 = kernel panic

2003-06-01 Thread joschua10
Hello,
I have problems connecting the Pontis SP600 mp3-player (with inserted 256MB
Compact
Flash Card) with my PC through USB. The SP600 caused kernel panic with
2.4.19 and 2.4.20 on Debian testing.

The bootmessages are correct and identical with paragraph 2A.

1A) I connect the device:
-
May 10 14:05:25 debian kernel: hub.c: new USB device 00:04.2-1, assigned
address
 3
May 10 14:05:26 debian kernel: usb_control/bulk_msg: timeout

May 10 14:05:26 debian kernel: /dev/scsi/host1/bus0/target0/lun0: p1

1B) I try to mount the device or do sg_map: [I had to write this down on a
paper
and type it again in the Computer because no log survived]
-
usb-uhci.c: interrupt, status 3, frame#1878 [this number is changing every
time]
usb.c: USB disconnect on device 00:04.2-1 address 3
Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at virtual address 000c
printing eip:
c012b853

[here comes a lot of cryptic numbers and messages. I hope it is not so
important because it's alot.]

0Kernel panic: Aiee, killing interrupt handler!
In interrupt handler - not syncing

[Now are Caps Lock and Scroll Lock blinking and the system does'nt react.]

With kernel 2.4.21-rc1 the SP600 caused no kernel panic but other errors.
Now with 2.4.21-rc1 I can use the device but I get ugly messages,
especially Device not ready and test WP failed. Therefore I'm not sure
if the device works stable and the data transmission is secure.
Please take a look at the messages below! They are only regarding USB. Note
that I have also harddisk problems with 2.4.21-rc1 but I think this is not
important for USB.

2A) Now I'm booting:
