Regards Stuart I think for the majority of these issues it would be wise to look into additional latex packages that are available from http://tug.ctan.org/ . For instance the look of the appendices in the body of the document and the toc can be altered with the appendix package. I've included an example of how to use the package to insert the word 'appendix' in the body of the document and in the toc. Reference the documentation for this package on ctan.org. There are also a few packages available for changing the look of chapters with options to change the spacing. Or as someone else suggested you may look into the koma-script document class that has these options built in. There is a reference manual over 200 pages long for the koma-script class with many options to alter the look of the document. This manual is also available on ctan. Also, as someone else eluded to, the tocbibind package is available for adding different elements to the toc. I specifically used this package for my thesis because it was required to have the toc, lof, and lot in the toc. In this case I just put \usepackage{tocbibind} and this includes most elements in your toc. sciposter latex for A0 posters in LyX
I struggled with the a0poster latex packages and the .layout files that people so kindly posted here, but I found them very hard to work with. I looked for other options and found the sciposter package, together with sectionbox, multicol and wallpaper latex packages. I found these much easier to work with, to get a decent A0 landscape poster with 5 columns and nice boxes of white text and graphics on top of a colourful background. I used the a0poster layout to start with, and added various preambles, and I managed to get my references typed in a box in APA format too. However, once again look at the package documentation for a detailed description of the options available and once again this documentation is found at ctan. Good luck. To change this behavior you'll need modify the chapter page style or if you only want to change the look of the toc then there are latex packages for this. You can search around on ctan.org, I think the package I would use is tocloft, which is specifically written for modification of the toc, lof, and lot. I'm sure there are other packages to, but this is the package I used to modify the toc for my thesis. Good Luck Cheers, Bob

exactly the same problem and I have no solution for it christiaan pauw wrote: Hi everybody I use to have a working Aspell on LyX 1.5.1 of Win XP but I seem to have broken it. When I try F7 get the message: The spellchecker could not be started No word list could be found for language "en_US". Does anyone know what to do bar re-installing LyX? thanks Christiaan

The formal standard for those texts is somewhat different here at the BU Wuppertal. If you'd like to collect more samples I'm willing to share it but be aware it still has some ugly workarounds where I couldn't find a proper way to do it. Maybe I can use some of your table naming stuff but didn't try it yet. Oh and I've based it on the article class. Your zip file includes some of the ~ backup files, was that by intention? exporting pdflatex vs. lyx->latex->pdflatex
Funny. My presentation, which I wrote using LyX, does not export to PDF running pdflatex from File -> Export -> pdflatex. The PDF it creates is tiny and obviously has errors. However, if I do File -> Export -> LaTeX (pdflatex) and run pdflatex from Kile (KDE app), the PDF gets created all right. I'm just curious: any reason for this behaviour? -- Rudi Gaelzer Department of Physics Institute of Physics and Mathematics Federal University of Pelotas BRAZIL Registered linux user # 153741

sciposter latex for A0 posters in LyX
I struggled with the a0poster latex packages and the .layout files that people so kindly posted here, but I found them very hard to work with. I looked for other options and found the sciposter package, together with sectionbox, multicol and wallpaper latex packages. I found these much easier to work with, to get a decent A0 landscape poster with 5 columns and nice boxes of white text and graphics on top of a colourful background. I used the a0poster layout to start with, and added various preambles, and I managed to get my references typed in a box in APA format too. Could I recommend that a proper layout be added to lyx for this? My knowledge of .layout files is very limited. Mateo. listings prebreak question
Anyone know something that can be put into listings prebreak that would be more visually appealing than '/'? I'd like some kind of arrow, but attempts to put in any math symbols, using e.g. prebreak={$+$} (That is, just try a simple math symbol) results in errors: Improper discretionary list.

Ah, think I found one: \usepackage{pifont} prebreak={\ding{43}}
