Raja: Ctrl-m n (or N) if you are on a Mac. However you cannot reference
the equation until you have assigned a label (but I had no problem to
assign a label to an already numbered equation). Note that due to bug 6209
all equations are assigned number 1 in preview mode (look good in output
or without preview though).

enhancment request for tex2lyx

When importing norwegian texts latex encoded special charcter get 
translated.{\aa} - {å} and [\o} - {ø} etc. However, the { and } are imported 
as ERT and makes the text very hard to read.

Could tex2lyx removed the extra {}  when importing?

You're right: it's an OS issue rather than a LyX one.  The problem
seems to be that the 'ibus' input method isn't installed and enabled
by default on Linux Mint 16 (which comes with the older xim input
method enabled instead).  However, I think that ibus might be
installed and enabled if one installs either the KDE and/or XFCE
desktop environments, both of which are installed on the machine on
which unicode input works as desired.

Now that I've installed and enabled ibus I can enter unicode using
Ctrl-Shift-u code point.  I can add notes on this to the LyX wiki
- would anyone mind if I hijacked [1] and gave it a more general name
e.g. KeyboardInputMethods?

I am not sure how to do this reliably. I do not see why one could use 
the markup you describe, except maybe in bibliography. The problem is 
that it is never possible to assume safely that a macro does not change 
its environment (think {\bf}).


So, what is the rule you would propose?

I thought that  tex2lyx translated these macros away from macros to 
char-encodings, and thus is should be, in these cases, safe to remove 
the braces as part of the conversion. 

However, one could argue that the writer2latex is doing it wrong as you 
probably should write \ae{} instead  of {\ae}. (tex2lyx does remove 
the {} after \ae{}, but I see how that is more safe to remove) 

Sadly this is not only a problem in the bibliography as we use these characters
a lot. :)

You are right of course, I was trying this argument in order to avoid 
ugly hardcoding :)

Ah, so writer2latex is the culprit, I understand now. Please open a new 
ticket with this information.

enhancment request for tex2lyx

When importing norwegian texts latex encoded special charcter get 
translated.{\aa} - {å} and [\o} - {ø} etc. However, the { and } are imported 
as ERT and makes the text very hard to read.

Could tex2lyx removed the extra {}  when importing?

You're right: it's an OS issue rather than a LyX one.  The problem
seems to be that the 'ibus' input method isn't installed and enabled
by default on Linux Mint 16 (which comes with the older xim input
method enabled instead).  However, I think that ibus might be
installed and enabled if one installs either the KDE and/or XFCE
desktop environments, both of which are installed on the machine on
which unicode input works as desired.

Now that I've installed and enabled ibus I can enter unicode using
Ctrl-Shift-u code point.  I can add notes on this to the LyX wiki
- would anyone mind if I hijacked [1] and gave it a more general name
e.g. KeyboardInputMethods?

I am not sure how to do this reliably. I do not see why one could use 
the markup you describe, except maybe in bibliography. The problem is 
that it is never possible to assume safely that a macro does not change 
its environment (think {\bf}).


So, what is the rule you would propose?

Hm: I'm probably missing something here. :)

I thought that  tex2lyx translated these macros away from macros to 
char-encodings, and thus is should be, in these cases, safe to remove 
the braces as part of the conversion. 

However, one could argue that the writer2latex is doing it wrong as you 
probably should write \ae{} instead  of {\ae}. (tex2lyx does remove 
the {} after \ae{}, but I see how that is more safe to remove) 

Sadly this is not only a problem in the bibliography as we use these characters
a lot. :)

You are right of course, I was trying this argument in order to avoid 
ugly hardcoding :)

Ah, so writer2latex is the culprit, I understand now. Please open a new 
ticket with this information.

Neat!
Raja: Ctrl-m n (or N) if you are on a Mac. However you cannot reference
the equation until you have assigned a label (but I had no problem to
assign a label to an already numbered equation). Note that due to bug 6209
all equations are assigned number 1 in preview mode (look good in output
or without preview though).

Certainly not a LyX issue.

Make sure that you have installed all necessary texlive-lang-* packages. As of 
TeXLive 2003, these are not installed anymore by default on some distros.

Hm: I'm probably missing something here. :)

I thought that  tex2lyx translated these macros away from macros to 
char-encodings, and thus is should be, in these cases, safe to remove 
the braces as part of the conversion. 

However, one could argue that the writer2latex is doing it wrong as you 
probably should write \ae{} instead  of {\ae}. (tex2lyx does remove 
the {} after \ae{}, but I see how that is more safe to remove) 

Sadly this is not only a problem in the bibliography as we use these characters
a lot. :)

You are right of course, I was trying this argument in order to avoid 
ugly hardcoding :)

Ah, so writer2latex is the culprit, I understand now. Please open a new 
ticket with this information.
