Thanks for your comments, Neal! I used to do that too, but I'm prone to
forgetting or even mixing the "small steps," so for me it's important to
automate as much as possible! ;)

1 minor comment: My procedure for inserting graphics is usually to choose 
scale to 100% columnwidth (or textwidth) for an article.  Usually for beamer 
I'll scale to 85% of textheight, unless there's other text on the page, in 
which case I'll choose perhaps 75% textheight.  I've never used scaling to 
fixed dimensions.

Although your procedure to automatically center graphics is more automatic, 
I simply choose paragraph setting centered before inserting the graphic (and 
if scaled 100% textwidth doesn't matter if it's centered anyway).

Yes, that was what I was asking. I've found that if we make a trac
ticket with a minimal example, it might not receive attenion at the
time, but there's a higher chance that it will be fixed.

Thanks, Steve! I'll do! But it will take time, something I'm pretty short
of now. The 1000 pages of the lwarp manual are quite intimidating...

Please keep us all apprised of your work using lwarp to convert
LyX-derived LaTeX to ePub (and then to Kindle if required). I don't
have a whole lot of time but I might be able to help. I once built a
LyX-derived xhtml to ePub converter, but LyX' html and xhtml exporters
export pidgeon xhtml and html that requires all sorts of human
intervention and garbage removal. They convert styles to appearances
way too early.

I have a fairly complete Stylz to ePub converter that works pretty well.

So if lwarp's special ePub version of HTML is semantically sound, this
might be a possibility. See chapter 10 of
http://ctan.math.washington.edu/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/lwarp/lwarp.pdf
