Re: Fremantle on OBS status update
Hi I did a quick search in maemo wiki and there is two pages that we could use for this exercise in addition to the task page ( http://wiki.maemo.org/Task:Maemo_OBS) http://wiki.maemo.org/OpenSuse_Build_Service/Fremantle_Setup - this has one link to pmo. It would be nice if someone with access rights could check if there's something useful there that can be shared. http://wiki.maemo.org/OBS I think the docs needs to be improved a bit so I'll try to find time to do some wiki editing soon and update those pages to match the current situation. I won't be editing the obs setup page but I plan to edit the above OBS page to be an entry point for the maemo OBS. Timo 2012/4/30 Niels Breet ni...@maemo.org Hi, A quick update about this task: I've imported the Fremantle PR1.3 SDK into the maemo.org OBS and also imported all packages from fremantle Extras into the Extras:Testing13 project. There is currently a problem with the scheduler for armel packages, I need to find out why builds aren't dispatched. At the moment the i586 packages are still building, but the results look quite promising already. Building for i586 should finish somewhere tomorrow. Unfortunately I have to cancel the fremantle on OBS meeting tomorrow as I am not able to join it. I want to propose postponing the meeting one week, so I can fix the armel building in the OBS and let the builds run. -- Niels Breet maemo.org webmaster ___ maemo-developers mailing list maemo-developers@maemo.org https://lists.maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/maemo-developers ___ maemo-developers mailing list maemo-developers@maemo.org https://lists.maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/maemo-developers
Re: Fremantle Community SSU
Hi 2010/11/1 Mohammad Abu-Garbeyyeh mohammad7...@gmail.com Hello everyone :) Some of you may have heard back in summer when I announced that I was working on an SSU, however, I decided to postpone it till PR1.3's out. Now that it's out, I decided to work on it again. Niels Breet (X-Fade) has kindly set up the repository on http://repository.maemo.org/community-testing/. Me and X-Fade have come to a conclusion that instead of faking the Nokia meta-package, it would be better to make a new community one (mp-fremantle-community-pr). Unfortunately, while this might be the right way, it caused me some problems with the enabler package, so to work around it, a terminal window is started from HAM (postinst) and then the postinst exits, the user then has to exit HAM and go back to the terminal window to continue installation. I've yet to make a complete changelog for this repository, however, I can confirm that https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10613 is no longer reproducible with the new hildon-desktop in the repository, so that's a start ;) New system packages, all of them are based on the latest gitorious sources. hildon-desktop (with Matan's patches) | hildon-home | hildon-application-manager | hildon-status-menu | modest (with patches for bmo bugs #3700 and #2563) As per above, community patches are welcome for any of the system packages. Thanks for the effort. To enable the repository, open http://repository.maemo.org/community-testing/community-testing-fremantle.installon the N900. This is not a proper announcement for the SSU, but more of a prerelease before it's posted on talk.maemo.org, so please, do not post about this on talk. I'd appreciate any testing, suggestions and bug reports about this SSU, before I make a proper announcement about it. Are you also packaging the corresponding -tests packages [1] for the libraries? I could give them a spin to see if they pass, etc. For the community updates to be credible I think we should have some testing going on for the provided updates. After MeeGo's open test system [2] is stable enough it could be used to automate testing (if the -tests packages and needed hardware [3] are available). At least I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work with Maemo. The tests can be also executed on device without the automation stuff. Basically you need to install testrunner-lite (available from extras-devel) and some test packages. then you do for example: 'testrunner-lite -f /usr/share/testrunnner-lite-tests/tests.xml -v -o /home/user/results.xml' [1] http://wiki.meego.com/Quality/QA-tools/Test_packaging [2] http://wiki.meego.com/Quality/QA-tools/OTS [3] n900, a PC to control testing, some software controlled device to toggle usb and power I'd also like to thanks Niels and Lucas Maneos (the Diablo community SSU maintainer) for their help in setting this up. Re: qhildon-notifications in QT-Extra
Hi 2010/5/26 saurabh aggarwal aggarwal.saur...@gmail.com We are using the qhildon-notifications in our application found at http://wiki.maemo.org/Maemo_Qt_Extra_Libraries. For using this while development, we had to install the qhildon-notifications package using apt-get. Now, when we are building a package, can we add the depends in the deb file, and then will application manager automatically detect the dependency, and prompt the user to install it when he tries to install our application from the repository? I wrote those libraries for Qt 4.5 and I haven't been working with them in a long time. Personally I consider the libs as unfinished and discontinued. I think you should consider using Qt 4.6 or if you want to keep the libraries alive for Qt 4.5 feel free to take over the maintenance of them and do whatever changes are needed for them. the sources are in gitorious.org Anyway nice to hear that someone is actually using those libs :) -Timo Another question, how do we test what the application manager would do, and whether we have the dependency setup correctly? Re: Dependency problems after PR 1.2 update to extras builder
Hi 2010/3/31 Marius Vollmer marius.voll...@nokia.com ext Robin Burchell virot...@viroteck.net writes: Things as I understand it: - Qt 4.5 on Maemo5 had no API/ABI compatibility guarentees. - Qt 4.6 took liberal advantage of that to change and fix some rather suboptimal parts. This might have been handled better, though, with a proper soname change etc. There are ways to cleanly break an interface, still painful, but at least sterile. In general, I think it is not useful to release an SDK update earlier than the OS. The way they are joined at the hip, they need to be released together. (Yes, in an parallel universe, SDK and OS would be more independent. But they are not and we should not pretend they are.) I think it's good to able to test that your applications are working with the upcoming version so there's a chance to have less broken packages when the actual update comes. Anyway, time between these releases (SDK and OS) is already too long. It is of course better to release earlier than later. Thus, if we want to release the SDK early, we simply need to release the OS with it, as a beta. But even if there is a SDK release with a corresponding OS beta release, I'd say it should not be installed in the Extras autobuilder. People can try out the new SDK and OS beta by themselves, we don't need to force them to use it. The Extras autobuilder should build for the most recent release of the OS. This brings up a question: Is there a need for one more repo? Something like extras-experimental that could have these pre-released updates, etc. for devs to test and play with. The current extras chain (devel-testing-extras) would be only used with the current SDK only. (In my dreams, the OS updates would be developed in extras-devel as well, end-users would eventually SSU from extras, and the SDK as such would not exist. We would still have the problem of how to make a binary that is compiled against Qt 4.6 run with Qt 4.5, but everybody except us has that figured out.) -Timo ___ maemo-developers mailing list maemo-developers@maemo.org https://lists.maemo.org/mailman/listinfo/maemo-developers

Until we have the repository/library maintainer track sorted out, I propose to follow these steps: - If you are not listed as maintainer for an existing library and still want to have it updated, contact the maintainer. If the maintainer is not available or doesn't respond, mail to maemo-developers list. *** Please don't update a library maintained by anybody else without consent or public discussion*** - The maintainer/author uploads new version, checks if applications using the app still work correctly. - Ping me or mail -developers to push it through manually to testing. Here we can all do a final test to see if nothing breaks. Sounds reasonable IMHO. Is that also the case if some package needs to be demoted from extras-testing? I hope to have an interface for maintainers available in the beginning of the new year. Good to hear that! Will it be not restricted just to user/* applications? This doesn't solve the problem that the Application manager doesn't update libraries on their own though. That problem should be a separate discussion. Agreed. One thing I noticed is that removing some application using Application Manager does not remove its unused dependencies (e.g. like apt-get autoremove does). So the device tends to get filled up with unused dependencies, with no user-friendly way of removing them. Did anyone else notice this? Re: Rotation support.. :(
Hi Do you start the accelerometer? It isn't enabled by default. Don't know about GTK, but with Qt it goes like this: QDBusConnection::systemBus().call(QDBusMessage::createMethodCall(MCE_SERVICE, MCE_REQUEST_PATH,MCE_REQUEST_IF, MCE_ACCELEROMETER_ENABLE_REQ)); And when exiting the application ... Re: scratchbox apt-get update proplems
Hi I have similar problems with name resolution in scratchbox on my laptop when I move from network to another. Doing sudo cp /etc/resolv.conf /scratchbox/etc/resolv.conf outside of scratchbox fixes this for me.
